A perennial favorite for family and friends get togethers, with perfectly executed healthy (and less healthy) options for everybody.
Everytime we eat there, either for lunch or dinner, the service and food are excellent. Very consistent performance. Would recommend and nice variety on menu from pizza/ hamberger/ salad to full meal
Worst service ever and a “could care less” attitude for the inattentiveness to the meal, repeated requests for the order to be taken, bread and water served, the missing part of the meal delivered and finally the check.
Chicken paillard and fries are the best! One of my fave lunch spots in NYC - best to have a reservation. Its always crowded. Hoping Fred's will continue if heaven forbid, Barney's closes.
Have been here multiple times for lunch and have always thought though the food was expensive fir the most part it was worth it. However, recently the food, and especially the salads have lost their luster. The menu misrepresents Mark’s Madison Avenue Salad describing it as containing “ imported Italian tuna “ but in fact it was a boring can of bumblebee , tasteless and bland. We returned it for Chopped Chicken Salad which was also missing ingredients. No pears? How about a substitute? Very disappointing.
I think Fred's, at the moment, is in transition. Bankrupt? about to close? but the food was fair and the service was poor.
Always a good afternoon at Freds. Service is top notch, menu doesn't change, but I don't mind that. It is consistently good.
We have always enjoyed the food at Fred’s. However, almost every time we have dined at this restaurant they have either taken over an hour to bring our food and every time they have either gotten the order wrong or the burgers were not cooked to the requested temperature. Also, it is difficult to get the attention of a server to address any of our issues (or even to get our check).
This affects our overall enjoyment dining at Fred’s.
Delicious food and extremely nice to children!!
Love this restaurant, Food is always VERY good, took friends from out of town, they really enjoyed them selves food outstanding. Special place.
I've eaten at Freds for at least 15 years and have never had a bad experience or less than tasty food. The service is warm, friendly and always very professional, not only do they remember our names, but the waiters remember our favorite drinks and usually what we prefer on the menu. How effin crazy is that! I love it! Just a GREAT place to dine!
The lobster salad was not up to snuff. The greens were not really fresh and the lobster was tough. Too expensive for the mediocre quality.
Good experience, food ambiance, staff. Typical NY pricing. Would go back!
The brunch is always my favorite. I love the eggs and roasted potatoes. I always get a table right away. Nice and quiet place to go. My favorite restaurant in the city
On the whole, meh. I hadn’t eaten there in a couple of years, it was not as good as I remembered.
The worst restaurant on the upper east side. Prices are ridiculously high. Even the bread is stale. I cook a far superior breast of chicken. Question... the place was virtually empty, but we were caught in a rain storm. Why would anyone elect to go there?
Trendy! The Belgian pommes frites are AMAZING!
Very disappointing. We have dined at Fred’s for many years and this is the first time the food wasn’t good. I wanted to order a lobster club and they said they didn’t have lobster. I ordered a turkey club instead and the turkey did not taste fresh. I left it on my plate and did not complain and neither the waiter nor the busboy chose to comment. My husband ordered the chicken livers and they were over cooked. The buffalo cheese on the caprese salad was tasteless. The fettuccine pasta with red sauce and the hamburger were very good.
I always love their chewy sourdough bread and vegan daily soups; vegetable ravioli were amazing today as well!
The Sunday Brunch Special Straussie’s Bagel Basket is one of many reasons to go. The bagels are among the best that can be found in the city. The bagels have a excellent crust, good texture and consistency and above all are the perfect size. Bagels are served with vegetable, scallion and plain smears, they were delectable bites to savour. During our visit we also selected the Mushroom risotto special and Eggs Benedict. Food as always, was well prepared and seasoned. Service was attentive but not intrusive, allowing us to enjoy our dining experience. Freds has been consistent in their food quality and service delivery, that once again satisfied and delighted us.
Quality has dropped a lot. The chopped salad was wilty and old. It looked like it was sitting around for awhile. Service was bad, we had to hail down service many times.
There are no words, only stars, and as always this was a 5 ⭐️ experience!
Place is old and shabby - glassware and silverware were old and dirty. Service was fair to lousy. And food was not good. No need to ever return.
Fred’s was always a favorite. Recently, however, I’ve noticed that they don’t seem to value Open Table reservations, seating customers in the worst area, with diffident service. I no longer wish to pay these prices, only to leave feeling dissatisfied and feeling taken advantage of. I was so displeased this last visit that I left without returning to the shoe department to purchase a four-figure pair of boots I’d planned to pick up. Take notice, Barneys!
Great food -great table-never disappoints!
Good is consistently wonderful!
Been to Fred’s many times — always amazing
Very nice place to eat a good meal. Sophisticated enjoyable
Our server, Aggie, was exceptional!!!
Food had no flavor. Definitely over rated. Service was good. Would not give another try.
Food was bad. Did not receive what we ordered.
After shopping at Barney’s or just craving great comfort food, Fred’s is the best! Spaghetti and meatballs with perfectly cooked spaghetti or lasagna are as good as you can get anywhere.
Fred's is kind of unique because it's inside Barney's Department Store on the 9th floor. When we were there for an early dinner, it was quiet, and had a nice atmosphere - spacious with lots of windows. The food is very fresh and good. The service is also good. The only downside is it's on the pricey side.
Service was very good but too prompt. I would have preferred to have been given more time between dishes. All too quick & no real time to relax. Even after my wife & I requested a longer break in between dishes the food came out far too quick. Also my salmon ,although delicious, was over cooked.
Branzino was amazing!
Unfamiliar with New York and looking for a quiet dinner with my daughters that would not cost a mortgage, I found Freds. My first impression was the place had been there a while and was favored among the locals. We were there on a Thursday evening, about 7pm, and the restaurant was nearly full. The 3 of us were seated promptly and while not ignored, service was a bit slow in coming. The place was cozy, bright and quiet. We started with cocktails and grilled calamari appetizer which was fresh and very tasty. Next, we had the steak Frites and chicken parm. The portions could have been shared among us but having a sumptuous take-home did not disappoint either. We opted for the dessert sampler, which included tiramisu per our request. Our server was skilled and I honestly feel that we could have asked for anything and he would have done his best accommodate. Freds is not inexpensive, but also not over the top. It is on my list of places to return to.
Always a treat 😎

If the friend was from out of town and wanted to see a certain privileged thy[eo of diner gathered in one spot who didn't rea;;y care how much it cost and didn't mind noise at one in the afternoon...bring em on.
The veal was dry and burnt- our server agreed. It was later in the day on a Sunday afternoon so things were slow.
It literally had burnt edges. We should have returned both plates but were too hungry and running late for our movie.
Not good at all.
