Fred and Steve's Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
We have eaten at Fred & Steve's a lot since it opened. On this occasion it was a delayed Valentines dinner cause I work 2nd shift. I ordered the Grass fed Ribeye with a side of asparagus. And my wife ordered the Prime Rib with Cheddar mashed potatoes. Everything was great and as usual we will come back again. The only thing I would recommend is bring back triple points on Wednesday and Thursday. I would dine more often.
I have been going since you opened and have always been a fan, until now. In the past I'd compare F&S's as a northern RI option to Capital Grille or Fleming's. This Saturday at best comparable to longhorns without the price difference of course. Really bummed out as we took friends for their 1st time. Cooking a steak medium is a bare minimum requirement for a steak house not an art. Hoping it was an off night.
Tim at the bar made a fantastic drink. I'm glad I didn't have to drive when I left the casino.
Our waitstaff was very friendly. Our bus boy, Chris, was outstanding and very friendly. I enjoy joking with staff and trying to make their day a little more fun.
For a steakhouse the steak selections were very limited. Where's the (Kobe) beef???
Don't get me wrong. The steaks we had were excellent cuts. Very tender and tasty.
The creamed corn add-on was almost like dessert. I sampled the creamed corn at the Rhodes Critics Choice event September 2017. Was memorable for sure.
Food was great, they were out of the 48 oz porterhouse that me and my boyfriend loved so much we wanted to come back and have for his birthday, the beet taps weren't working so he was slightly disappointed but the food was good. Pricey, but you get what you pay for. The service was kind of slow though, we would wait 20+ mins for our server to come over and help us at a time, however she was very nice and hospitable. Will eat here again.
HAD A RESERVATION AT 6 WE ARRIVED LATE AS WE WAITED IN VALET LINE FOR 23 MINUTES. OUR WAITER WAS EXCELLENT AND THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS BUT WE HAD TO WAIT A LONG TIME FOR OUR FOOD. THE WAITER BROUGHT US SOME SCHRIMP FROM THE CHEF AND APPOLIGED THAT THE KITCHEN WAS BACKED UP BUT UNFORTUNATELY MY HUSBAND IS ALLERIC TO FISH SO THE WAITER GAVE ME MY DRINK ON THE HOUSE. GREAT TIME BUT LONG WAITS IN BETWEEN COURSES.
Great restaurant. Great food. Great service. IMO the steaks are better than you get in any of the other famous steak-houses --- Capital Grille, Morton's, Ruth's Chris, etc. Plus, you sometimes have Freddy wander over to the table to say hello, crush your hand, and make sure everything is OK.
The staff is very friendly , make you feel right at home , call you by your first name from wait staff to bar keep . Very attentive about meal , concenious about the atmosphere , you get the feeling all staff is making an effort to make sure your comfortable and satisfied about your meal and you’ll not hesitate about a return visit .
From our booth, we had a fun view of the casino below. We did not order an appetizer because the mixed basket of bread with three dipping sauces was delicious. I had the prime rib and my partner had the lamb chops. Both entrees were cooked perfectly - medium rare. We ordered a side of asparagus and it was really big enough for 3-4 people. It too was cooked perfectly. We finished the meal with an awesome creme broulee with a perfectly torched top!! Each of us enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine or beer. The selection of each was solid. It was our first visit , but we look forward to returning. The menu and friendly staff make you want to visit again!
Food was prepared well and the quality was excellent. Unfortunately, we felt rushed by the wait staff. Entrees were brought to the table before we had finished our apps with no comment from our server, just left to cool. Our check was dropped on our table before we were finished desert, never asked if we would like coffee, or an after dinner drink. This felt more like a visit to a high volume family restaurant than a fine dinning experience. Sadly, not in the same league as Capital Grille, Flemings, etc....
From the front of the house, to the food, to owner Steve DeOssie coming in personally to give me a cigar and wish me a happy 40th birthday, the experience at Fred & Steve's was as memorable as it gets. The appetizer and local beer suggestions from our A+ waitresses were spot on. My sirloin with bearnaise sauce was buttery, flavorful, and cooked to temp. The mashed were what you wish mom made, and the bananas foster cheesecake made me the happiest monkey in the room. Followed that up with a trip to their cigar bar downstairs to relax. This will be a top choice to travel to (live in Boston MA) for special occasions moving forward. Can't to try the whole menu.
I hoped that this restaurant would have had a consistent quality of their food from day to day. Few months ago, I had a fantastic meal here. This time, on Sat. 1/20 @ 7:30pm the food was barely acceptable. Appetizers had barely any warmth to them and who serves french onion soup luke warm? The main dish was brought out and was luke warm as well. I informed our server (busboy & not our waiter) that my appetizer & entree have both been tepid and definitely not hot. He promptly took my plate and had it reheated, needless to say that did nothing to improve a steak & seafood dish except overcook it. No manager came to my table, my waiter never acknowledged the complaint and I am never eating here again.
Worst part is this. I set up an online reservation. Requested not to be seated near children. Guess what.....Got seated near children. It was not jammed packed when I got there so I question the hosts ability to read English at this point.
We went to Fred and Steve's to enjoy a late New Years Dinner with Friends. We were seated in the back room next to a table of 8 that was so loud we couldn't even have our own conversation. Waiter was ok - not the prompt service we usually receive at Fred and Steve's. Asked if we wanted dessert - we said maybe - he gave us menus - never asked if anyone wanted coffee. He was very in tune to a table of 3 woman that it appeared he knew. The food was good as usual but the rest left a lot to be desired.
I always have a wonderful dining experience at Fred and Steve’s. The food and presentation are equally matched by the friendly and professional staff. Desserts are literally a treat!! Extensive menu and daily specials. Steakhouse prices but well worth the visit!! Definitely a favorite spot.
Fred and Steve's is an outstanding steakhouse . My wife and I are regulars and always ask for Errol our favorite waiter. We especially enjoy going on our birthdays when Phil seranades us with his operatic rendering of happy birthday . We have never been disappointed with the quality of food and service !
"I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The potato-leek soup was amazing and the Bibb lettuce salad was refreshing. The table was split on the monkfish – one person thought it was great, but another felt that the tastes didn't quite mesh. Everyone loved the flat iron steak. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable."
I have been to Fred & Steve's a few time with mostly good experiences. On this past New Year's Eve (12/31/2017), I was very disappointed in not only the food, but the service. We had 5 people, I had the large filet and asked for it to be cooked with a slight pink center (Medium Well according to our waiter). It arrived and it was well past well done and very, very dry. I then mentioned it to the waiter and he looked at and said that was how they cook medium well. I didn't eat any of it and the waiter and Manager never said a word about it.
Suffice it to say, there are too many very good high end steakhouses in RI to suffer through a meal like that and then have to pay several hundred dollars for the privilege.
Thanks for ruining our New Year's eve.
A very unsatisfied customer,
We went there on New Year's Eve with another couple who really enjoy their steak and were not disappointed! The meat was superb! It was pricey but well worth it. I would go back again only for a special occasion because of the price, but it's a great way to treat yourself on those occasions!
