There is a difference between historic and old. Fraunces is musty and worn.
Great selection of rare and hard to find barrel aged beers. Food was outstanding and the service was 5*
Historical landmark , staff is nice and attentive , food is awful, really bad , price expensive.
Historic, attractive, pretty expensive. The chicken pot pie was good but a bit too salty. The churrasco was not seasoned enough. The NY strip steak served too cold and not seared enough on the outside, nor was it seasoned enough. Veggies were good. Coffee was watered and when I complained, at first our server was defensive : "I didn't brew it" but she did get me a fresh, stronger cup. For dessert, I asked for 1 scoop of chocolate ice cream. After a long wait and a reminder that we were still waiting, 1 minuscule scoop of partially melted vanilla ice cream was brought over. "Oh, we were out of chocolate. " The fact that it was melted also means to me that it had been sitting there and the server had not picked it up. Sooo....
Wait staff was fantastic. Food was great for dinner. One son got the ravioli, and he loved it. Another son got the fish and chips, and throughly enjoyed it. My daughter got the kid sliders. She liked them. My husband got the filet on the hot stone. He said the steak was perfect. He did mention that the dirty rice was not a traditional dirty rice (like is made in the South). He said it was more of a wild rice, but he thought it complimented the steak better than what a traditional Southern-style dirty rice would have. I got the Pear salad with watercress and added chicken. The salad was super good. The chicken was good, but nothing extraordinary. Overall, great meal. Cool atmosphere. It was pretty loud in the dining area where we were seated, but it didn’t ruin dinner at all, but I am accustomed to being in loud places.
Great food and ambiance. Not noticeable from outside quickly though. It is a place with an antique look and feel but has a unique charm to it. Food quantity and quality both were excellent.
Quite charming. Not expensive, nor cheap. Very good meals all around.
Very poor quality good in a beautiful environment. Shame.
Fraunces Tavern has great food and friendly, efficient service in a well-preserved historical setting. It is great for larger parties as well.
Great food and great service. But the men's room looked like it was built during George Washington's presideny.
I had eaten there and liked it so I brought a friend .
I was nervous she might not like it as much as I had.
She LOVED it! Everything was perfect . The historic ambiance is so unique , the food was delicious and the wait staff was courteous and efficient at the same time friendly and personable . After our meal we visited the museum .
And as two former teachers we thoroughly enjoyed learning about Washington’s connection to the Tavern , facts we hadn’t been aware of before . It was a lovely Sunday afternoon and we will surely return , as well as recommend the Tavern to all our friends !!
What a beautiful spot in the heart of a crazy city! The old architecture, the woden floors and deep set windowsills, the long woden tables in the center of the dining room, the separate rooms, the lighting.....all come together to share the history of the building with the modern-day life just outside.
The food was delicious and the drinks were magnificent.
Our server was attentive and patient as we looked at 4 menus to decide on drinks.
We were slightly disappointed that there wasn't a traditional/historical food choice as it felt like the right venue to taste a recipe from Washington's era and the whiskey flights were extremely limited given their extensive list, but overall it was a glorious experience and a romantic setting for our 2 year anniversary.
Will definitely visit again if we are ever in NY again! Thank you!
A great historic place to visit while in Battery Park. Good food. Great ambiance. Really enjoyed the museum too.
Great night. Food so tasty as always. One of our NYC BEST LIST.
I was intrigued by the history of this tavern and made a reservation solely based on their Internet presence. I was not disappointed. Because we made a reservation, we were quite surprised to actually see our table ready when we arrived. Wow!! It was like they were anticipating us and wanted everything to be ready. That was a nice touch and I felt it.
The service was good. No matter what you do and where you wind up eating in this place--you have to walk around and explore all the inches. There were several different dining areas and 3 bars. One bar was just a whiskey lounge with classic leather seats.
We missed the museum tour upstairs and did not stay for the next tour. But I would suspect it was fun. It was not expensive and would have been worth the cost. We were just running short on time and needed to get to our next place. Go. Enjoy
The actual restaurant and building are great!! Definitely a place to see and experience. The food as well was great!!! The reason for some of the lesser stars has to do with the service. Particularly the entry point of service. This is the second time we had the same experience so thought it was worth noting. I’m not sure if the person in charge of seating is given directions by someone else, but he seems to have a tough time letting you sit in the dining area. He’s very big on reservations even if there are many tables empty. And if you ask to choose your table it seems like it is a big deal to him - an annoyance. It’s confusing because it’s such a lovely spot, so I’m not sure what the goal in this is. Particularly right when you arrive. Waiter service was only so so - nothing bad enough to not return, but not great. Seems like this place could easily be a 5 star spot for an old tavern/restaurant vibe if they wanted to. Great history and ambiance!!!
The ambiance of this historic building was fantastic. I loved the lighting and the live music playing in the background. I had a chicken pot pie which had a very tasty and flaky crust. Even better is the very wide selection of whiskey and beers! I would highly recommend the experience at Fraunces Tavern.
Second time I’ve been here. Ambiance is nice, food is good and nice portions. 1st time waitress was nice. Second, just luke warm.
A little history of the place in the menu would be nice, but I suppose they want you to do the museum to get that.
I enjoy eating her & think it’s a good value. Will totally do it again.
The food and ambiance was amazing! Where else in NYC can you dine where Washington did? Highly recommended.
Great bar atmosphere and service. Many great beers on tap.
Very good food in a historic setting. We had the chicken pot pie at lunch and it was large and very good. Was loud due to busy lunch crowd. We really enjoyed the museum upstairs. Well worth the admission price.
The service was terrible-slow, incorrect or missing items, and incorrect bill. Price seemed night for what you get.
The historical aspect of the place is great. Menu was bland. Service was ok.
Service was wonderful - attentive, knowledgeable, friendly
I had a delicious Cobb salad!! Can’t wait to go back!
The fish was wonderful. Also enjoyed the mock tail. I really like the idea that I was dining where some of our countries Founding Fathers dined.
A fun place, lots of character and history. Fantastic Bar (both for Ales, Whiskey and cocktails). The Food is fine, good quality. Just a bit boring and uninspired. Especially for a place like this, I would love to see some history- inspired dishes.
Historical setting. Fun vibe. Good food and service.
So glad fraunces tavern has been preserved! The food was incredible, service was great. Not only will I recommend fraunces for the food, I highly recommend touring the museum.
The Brunch on Sunday is a no brainer. First time here and will be back with friends. The wait staff is very attentive and the maitre d was very helpul. Make it a point to visit the Museum.
Excellent food, A little pricey, but definitely very good.
Everything was great!!
I noted in my reservation that it would be a business lunch. We got a table in the corner, where the table was cut at a slant to line up with the wall. Because of the slanted table being wedged up against the wall and tight into the corner, the person against the wall was squeezed in tight, and I had to sit in the edge of my seat to reach my plate. I thought we would have had one of the bigger tables against the window and was very disappointed. It was so tight that when the person against left her seat, she knocked down the plate next to her. It was an unfortunate end to a business lunch. I generally like the place, but would not recommend it for that. There is also no gluten free option, other than salad.
This restaurant is a treasure. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The food was fine - the service was wonderful. We enjoyed the museum upstairs and will definitely return.
First time actually eating here and the food was delicious, the atmosphere as expected, and the service was sub par. It was quite stuffy inside temperature wise but as it wasn’t overly crowded the noise level was perfect for dinner with an old friend. Glad I finally got to try it.
Great service and ambience but the food we had was not good. Pea soup had a weird taste and was not appealing and the chicken pot pie had frozen vegetables in it that were not fully cooked. Onion rings were very greasy. Overall pretty disappointed with the food.
The location and historical background was interesting. The food was excellent! The service was awful. The waitress didn't care about us. But I would recommend the place just for the delicious food.
Great food, great service, excellent value, no more to say.
Honestly the ambiance was amazing however the food was about inedible. Even our drinks were not good. Really disappointed considering we had looked forward to going for a month.
When I arrived I received a very friendly and welcoming greeting by the men at the front desk, and I was seated immediately upon arrival. My fish and chips meal was very moist and delicious. I would have given 5 stars instead of 4, but my friend said his salmon burger was too salty. The waiter was very nice too. The reservation process was fast and easy. I have eaten at this restaurant many times and will definitely return. Thank you.
