Contemporary American
Fraunces Tavern Restaurant, is one of the city's most historic landmarks in the downtown Financial District. Fraunces Tavern Restaurant offers a large range of small batch and specialty beers, serving traditional American food. The building holds eight different rooms each offering unique public and private dining experiences. Invite friends to sit around the warm fire in the Dingle Whiskey Bar or hold a formal dinner under the crystal chandeliers in the Washington Room. If you're looking for something more informal, step into The Hideout off of the Water Street entrance to watch TV and meet friends for happy hour. And don't forget to make your way upstairs to the Bourbon Lounge to relax in large leather sofas and enjoy food and beverages from the bar. If you're a history buff, visit the Bissell room where you can't miss the beautiful mural painting done in 1717, depicting downtown New York City.

I went for a lunch on really nice day this week. Didn't get much sun - I'd recommend sitting on the sidewalk and not the street, since those tables are covered. We had mulled wine to warm up and really enjoyed that. My friend ordered the beet salad and loved that. She was hoping for some bread with it but strangely, the waiter said they didn't have any bread. Meanwhile, I ordered the tomato bisque and a cheese (with Havarti and another cheese) sandwich. The bisque was way too sweet, a common problem with tomato soups in restaurants. The sandwich had a ton of cheese and was a good complement for the soup.

Now is a great time to visit Fraunces Tavern. I've been trying to get in here for years--it was always jam-packed. In our new pandemic world, it was quiet, tables were far apart, servers wore masks, and I felt comfortable and safe.

Good basic fare, but I was somewhat surprised they had no ranch dressing for chicken wings and charged extra for a basic substitute salad dressing.

Great food and excellent service. Despite the outdoor dinning, the set up a good spot and its clean, noise moderate and nice. It was our first dinning out since the pandemic hit, and it was nice. Waiting time normal

I made a reservation for brunch with a few friends on a Saturday afternoon. We had seen the brunch menu on Open Table and thought it looked great. Unfortunately, when we arrived for our reservation we were told that they are not doing Brunch during COVID... bummer!! But, it all worked out. I ended up ordering the Lobster Mac-n-Cheese which was amazing. Service for drinks was very slow (our food arrived before our first cocktail), but the staff was all very pleasant. We were outside, it was a beautiful day, and they even had a live band playing!! Very nice afternoon!

Overall, everything was great especially the service. They have several tables set up outside the restaurant with live music. All servers were wearing masks as well and moving quick to take and bring out orders.

Our first experience with outside dining at Fraunces. Staff was adapted extremely well and even despite the rain that came down they handled it like super-pros!

Always a treat dining at Fraunces.
Do you happen to have schedule of live music on weekends too?

Thank you!!

The description on their website and the actual tavern are completely different. The food was adequate, the drinks (if they were available) was poor, hardly anyone in the dinning are (only two) and when I asked if we could dine earlier than our reservation (7:15), the hostess acted as if it was an huge inconvenience. We only stayed for a partial drink and cheese. If you are thinking this is a casual tavern, it is not.

Had brunch with my boyfriend and parents in a quieter side of the restaurant and it was awesome! We split a bunch of appetizers including the chorizo flatbread, goat cheese salad, chicken liver pate, and pintxos. They were sooooooo good!

We also stopped past the whiskey bar and museum after, and it made for a lovely experience for my parents that were visiting from out of town!

My husband has a theory that you should only order what a restaurant does best. So what did I order at this "Contemporary American" restaurant (which was actually better described by our excellent server as "American with some Irish")? No, not the filet mignon served on a hot stone (which my husband said was fantastic) but the Lobster Pappardelle. He thought I was nuts, but quickly changed his mind upon sampling a taste. This dish is worthy of the best Italian restaurants in the city. Wonderful meal and highly recommended.

Beautiful, historic place. We had the seasonal goat cheese salad, which was delicious and perfectly-dressed, and the amazing chicken pot pie, which was actually much lighter than expected, and just crammed with perfectly cooked chicken. If you're looking for something special to eat, this is great. Cute little museum upstairs, too!

Good pub food and obviously a historic building, which made it an interesting place for a meal. The Tavern is cramped and loud, but the burgers were excellent and the setting is great if you are interested in history.

Great historic tavern with varied contemporary menu.
Went for lunch as it is close to Wall St., Trinity Church and the 911 Memorial.
Food was great - I got the beet salad which was served with candied walnuts that nicely balanced the Gorgonzola.
My husband got the rueben which was big and delicious.
There is also a museum in the building which for seniors is $4.00 and worth it to see some historic artifacts along with the room where Washington said his emotional goodbye to his troops at the close of the Revolution.

I had ordered salmon for my main and specified a temperature. It cam somewhat overcooked and I was dismayed that the server never checked back with me to ask if it was cooked to my liking. I thought the service could have been more attentive. My colleague did enjoy his chicken pot pie very much though.

Plenty of colonial atmosphere here with well above average pub fare. Huge selection of whiskey. On a fun street a few blocks from Wall with many traditional pubs. Worth a crawl followed by dinner here.

The main dining room (to the right of entrance) was quite chilly. I had to keep my coat on for the first part of the meal. Suggest period-type French doors to close off the cold from the front door but still see the dining room. Also suggest period costumes for waitstaff and music of the 1770's to make the experience complete. Furnishings and food were great as was the waitstaff!
