Fratelli's Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
This was our first time to this restaurant. We arrived on time for our reservation and the hostess walked us through the fairly full main room and attempted to seat us at an empty table in a totally empty room- way at the back of the restaurant. Not sure why, as were were well dressed and certainly presentable. This seemed so rude, and was not a great way to start our evening! We requested a different table and were given a table in the main room- as there were several that were set for 4 and open. Much better!
Our server was knowledgeable and helpful when he wasn't AWOL... Seemed to forget we were there- Wine took longer than usual to get, taking our order took forever, service was spotty.
Two of the older ladies at the next table were drunk and v. loud and dropped the F-bomb several times. But, the atmosphere was lively and everyone seemed to having a good time.
However, the food was excellent We enjoyed the calamari appetizer and I really liked my redfish entree. We will give this place another try and hope for service that matches the food.
Wow what a change. Fratelli's has undergone a super upgrade. It was good before but both the food and the wine were "hemmed in" for all of the normal reasons. The owner and the chef decided it was time to do a major renovation--across the board--and in my opinion it worked in a big way. The ciopino is as good as there is in town. The redfish entree was a nicely sized portion, cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. The veal marsala got rave reviews from my dinner companions and the same for the beet salad. The wine list has been somewhat freed from the confines of the usual chain restaurant pleasers and the new additions offer variety, flavor and thought through pairing abilities. All told an old west side haunt has been greatly upgraded and my bet is it will soon reward both ownership and the clientele!
Not sure what we expected after reading many reviews of Fratelli's. We ordered the calamari and shrimp as an appetizer and we should not have. It was good, but not great ( a little over fried) and it was way too much for two people. So, instead of ordering an entrée I ordered the salad special and then, the duck ravioli appetizer. The waitress raved about the salad, but it was a bit boring. Nice greens, subtle dressing, small, thin, slices of apple, but not memorable. The duck ravioli was stunning. Absolutely a winner! My husband ordered the Kathy Ruiz pasta dish and he said it was good, but again, just not "WOW". Everything was nice. Staff tried hard, front desk staff seemed young and inexperienced but wanted to please. Our waitress Tina was very good, attentive, professional, and helpful. The room got busier as the night went on and it was easy to hear the conversations at the tables around us. Not a great thing in my book. However, we will return to try the pizza and some other items on the menu that looked good.
The food here has gotten pretty amazing since chef Mark Cox has arrived. We live in the neighborhood, and were shocked one night at how good the food was. We didn't know he was there, and could tell instantly that they had a new chef on board. Now we can't stop trying all of the new iterations. Prices are incredibly reasonable for the quality of the food, and the consistency of all the dishes is excellent. He is recreating many of his salads and mains. The wagyu beef entree was out of this world. It was also a real treat to find that he brought some of his servers from his previous restaurant. Two of them recognized us immediately from the frequency of our former visits. :-) Many dishes are exceptional, even in the pasta category (which is mostly handmade daily). Just try what sounds good, because it probably will be. We had the truffle appetizer for only $30. It can be $70 at some restaurants. If you're in the mood for good Italian, just go. You'll be so glad you found him again.
We so enjoy Fratelli's, kitchen now under Chef Mark Cox's leadership. Recently freshened decor makes a positive difference.
The food is exceptional-the very best fish dishes we have ever had in a restaurant. The salmon with light mustard sauce is perfect each time. The sea bass special was the best I have ever had anywhere. And oh! The pasta!
The bibb lettuce salad with champagne vinaigrette is wonderful.
Rick Jamail, recently retired from Spec's stores, is the wine consultant and sommelier. The list is carefully curated with fresh choices of considerable interest.
Service is friendly, smooth and very professional. Ask for Tina!
All 4 of our meals were superb. Absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. One of the finest meals I have enjoyed in a long time. The new chef, Mark Cox, is creating imaginative and complex dishes that are so darn good that I have to remind myself to eat slowly and savor each bite. The traditional Italian dishes at Fratelli’s have always been excellent nd now that the chef is adding unique American cuisine, you just have to give it a try.
Good but still needs work. Black pasta had too much lemon but good in spite of the lemon.
Spinach salad’s soft egg was cold & should have been poached when salad was put together. If egg done right would have been a first class salad. Bottom line we will return
Too crowded for the size and format of the facility. I think it was overbooked and we had to wait for a long time to be seated.
While waiting we were parked at the bar; bar services were extremely poor and discourteous.
Extremely noisy especially as an attempt to live entertainment.
The refreshed and renewed beloved Fratelli's comes back stronger than ever! The interior has been delightfully remodeled, the menu updated and improved. Mark Cox has added immensely to the equation. As has Rick Jamail the highly knowledgable wine master.
Food delicious, beautiful and gracefully served.
A joy and wonderful evening!
The place is a nice place to go if you are on a date. I thought the portions were a little small for the price you pay. We decided to order a bottle of wine because the bottle was priced right. When the bill came they had upped the price of the bottle $10 because they said there was a typo on the menu. I insisted that we pay the listed price and they changed it. The restaurant is not in the best of neighborhoods and the food is okay. The waiter didn't check on us to often so I ended pouring my own wine.
We had a half a dozen waiters waiting on us. No one knew what the other was doing. Disappointed as we have been coming here for years. Two many changes not for the good. Raised prices and changed menu. Probably will not go back. SAD! Lastly I have never had a tip put on the check by server for party of 6. They got the 20% that certainly was not earned.
Food was good but, though perhaps common place, I would have expected a side of pasta rather than three green vegetables. The salad of the day was described as with bibb lettuce, and though quite good, actually came with romaine. The service was adequate but lacked polish. Unused place settings were haphazardly gathered up and then missing pieces were purloined from adjacent tables - just sloppy and unprofessional. Glasses and flatware were put in place across the diner’s seating rather than from the appropriate side and with care. Dining room was noisy as all tables became filled. Greetings on entry and exit were perfunctory and without any semblance of attention or warmth. Otherwise, there was nothing of particular merit.
This was our first visit. We decided to try pasta dishes since this is an Italian restaurant. The pasta did not disappoint. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The wait staff was outstanding. Our only complaint was the table we had was directly under an AC vent and next to a mirrored wall, so it was uncomfortably cold. The candle on the table wouldn't stay lighted because of the "breeze". The waiter did adjust the thermostat immediately, so when the AC cycled off, it was fine. We will definitely go back and request a different table.
