Fratelli La Bufala Ratings and Reviews
This is a great restaurant. My husband and I eat here each time we are in Miami and that is practically every 2 months. The only thing is that I always book with Open Table and they NEVER give me my points. They always have an excuse. Either they forgot to check me in when I arrived or their computer did not work. There is always something. If they do not want to honour the points they should just not register with Open Table.
The food is good. Waiters do their best to tent to so many people in such a small space.
We made reservations for 9:00pm. They did not have our table ready. We had to wait 15 minutes, and then 20 minutes more to be seated inside.
I do not tolerate lies! When they told me they called my name 4 times and I did not answer is when I stood my ground very strongly. That cost me to be called the "Rabbiatta" person..., but finally they gave us a comfortable table.
Food is great. Service is great. But boys please stop trying to rotate the tables every 45 minutes. I spent 200$ with tip for me and my wife and felt pressured to be out by the host almost 30 minutes in. Telling the other people who are waiting for a table that we would be leaving within 10 minutes. How do you know that?? I ordered 6 drinks,,,2 appetizers,,,,a plate of pasta and a pizza and 2 coffees. Not everyone that goes there eats and drinks like that for 2 people. My point is I understand if 2 people order water and 2 pizzas and that's it,,you can make them feel like it's time to leave but treating people this way is not right. I see eveything and hear everything. The restaurant is extremely small therefore being italian I understand what's happening. Words of advice. Have the people who are waiting for a table wait outside instead of having them hovering over our table. It's absolutely not a place for intimate dinner place. Again stop forcing people to leave,,,even though you don't tell us to our face. Overall the food and waiters are incredible. That is why I gave it a very high rating. If you want to run a business properly and have people give you 5 stars you can't make them feel uncomfortable and forcing the waiters to send us the bill,,,we are Italians and seeing how small the place it is easy to see and hear eveything. In closing. See how much a couple spend first before forcing them out on the street. And trust me the host or manager was smart enough to know what we ate and drank that night as he was right up against our backs. Thank god the food is good. Won't be going back at night. Too me it's a lunch time place. In and out. Next time I will come in eat,,,if someone forces me out I won't pay. Call the cops and then when they come I will pay them. I'll create a scene just to make it hard on them. Grazie.
I'm a big fan of the chain in general, this is the fourth or fifth Fratelli La Bufala I've been to. I love their beginnings, the fact it is owned by brothers who came back to join forces after years of living in separate countries, that they are using part of their family heritage to go a different direction with the original family business.
So I have to temper this with the fact that I *really* love the other locations, this one is hampered by the fact it is in the U.S. and can't get the same ingredients (if you are ever at one of the European ones, you *have* to try the Buffalo Feta cheesecake).
If you want to go somewhere that has authentic Italian food with actual Italians working there, this is probably the most authentic you'll find in Miami (probably in FL). The menu isn't gigantic, and neither is the restaurant. It is in a good location, not far from the beach, and has indoor and outdoor seating. The people-watching from the windows (or outdoor seating if it isn't too hot) is great. The pasta is good, and their different buffalo (water buffalo, not bison) dishes are really great. The best thing there (IMHO) is the buffalo mozzarella. The sliced meats and other cheeses are also really great, the pasta is good, and they have a big wood-fired pizza oven for authentic Italian-style pizza.
I'd recommend Fratelli for pretty much any occasion, just follow the directions on Google and park in the pay lot right behind the restaurant. Easy in and easy out. :)
Used a Groupon coupon, so it was a good value for South Beach. Bruschetta was good. Pizza was only OK. Pasta looked better. Servers attentive. Restaurant claimed I didn't show up for my reservation, so had to clear that up with OpenTable later on. (Advice: keep your receipt to confirm you were there!)
My wife and I enjoyed Fratelli La Buffala. Our server, Nancy, made us feel at home as if we were back in Acri. My wife enjoyed her pizza selection, and I enjoyed the sirloin steak. The steak was moist, tender, and flavorful. My wife enjoyed her Nutella crepe dessert and my cannoli were delicious.
The best was our waiter Roberto. He made is feel very special. He sold us on the Burrata appetizer with a side of prosciutto di Parma , which was very good but overpriced. $23 for the Burrata plus $9 for 6 slices of the prosciutto. Also the Burrata is so rich that you can share this appetizer (2 people) and don't need anything else anymore.
As a main course we had the Tagliatelle with baby octopus and shrimp, and the Pizza with buffalo mozzarella and Prosciutto di Parma. The pasta dish was good but not great. The baby octopus tasted like it was canned, though the shrimp had a good taste and size. The tagliatelle could have been more al dente. Overall ok but nothing special. The pizza tasted great but the crust was a little bit too soft and the center was way too soggy. We only go there when they have a Groupon offer. You get 2 pizza or pasta dishes for $17 which makes up for the not so great quality ;-)
