Fran's Filling Station Ratings and Reviews
Our dinner for three was great. We ordered small tapas to share and was not disappointed in any of them. Bacon wrapped tater tots, mussels, frites, calamari, and fig and goat cheese flatbread. All tasty and served at the right temperature. The calamari was served crispy on top of marinara. I like this since I love plenty of marinara and you couple scoop out the sauce with the food. The frites were garlic and parmesan. Nice and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The bacon wrapped tater tots had a slight spicy kick to them, yum. And the flatbread was a nice flavor with the fig jam on the bottom topped with the melted cheese.. These 5 apps and a bottle of wine ($35) were ~$75, a very reasonable price. The waitress was knowledgeable and attentive. And they served a free piece of cake for our birthday companion. We went on a Monday night, here were a few other tables filled with guests, but not a busy night. It was a great experience and I will definitely go again.
My food was luke warm and when i mentioned it, all i got was an apology and not an offer to correct it. Also ‘Fran’ went to every table to ask how everything was and skipped our table. I’m guessing it was due to the demographics. Also it took at least 45 mins to get our main course from when our appetizer plates were removed. We kept getting ‘ its coming shortly’ and when we got there, it was maybe 30% full. And to top it all off, the bread pudding we got to go was charred on the top and then really soggy on the bottom. Overall, for my moms first visit there, she was not impressed.
Julie was a most unprofessional server. As I was going to bathroom, I heard her talking about my husband and me in such an ugly manner. We will never go back, if that’s the way they treat their customers for telling them that their food was cold. Their lead server was equally as appalling. It’s very open so quite noisy with little ambiance. I would not give a recommendation for this restaurant.
My Mexican family came for a visit to the Queen City for the holidays. Food and drinks were terrific, ambiance was great, especially with the venue being so accommodating for a party of 9. But most importantly , the service we received was outstanding.
7 out of the 9 people of our party didn’t speak fluent English, but our waiter was extremely patient while we were translating and explaining the kind of dishes they offered. I’ve always loved Fran’s and today they made my family feel right at home.
We love Frans. Went there recently for friedn’s birthday and had a group of 6. Our reservation was afte 9pm so we were the last table in there. The staff was still excellent and attentive and we didn’t feel rushed at all. Everyone got something different and everyone loved their food. Nice, comfortable place with great food.
Off the beaten path in a small strip mall is where you’ll find Frans. We had a 7 pm reservation and were seated promptly. We started with the shrimp and garlic appetizer then I had the lamb burger and my friend the turkey burger. We both really enjoyed our meals. Wine pairing the waiter suggested was also good! Will surely return.
Fran’s is a wonderful place to eat. I am surprised it is not standing room only as the food is creative and fantastic. Always a delectable meal. And, look for half price wine night. Although not extensive, the wine list is excellent.
Quiet enough for good conversation. In my mind a “must” when visiting Charlotte’s excellent restaurants.
This was an Anniversary date and we discovered Fran's Filling Station has fantastic, high-quality food. It is a simply decorated PLACE and small, but very cozy, and I enjoyed the ambiance. I prefer small restaurants.
For an appetizer, we ordered the cornbread waffle with pepper jelly and pimento cheese, though we got a 1/2 of one. If you get the full size one, be prepared for a lot of food - these are big, thick waffles! I couldn't decide if I liked it best with pepper jelly or pimento cheese, so I had both.
I had a Lamb Burger with blue cheese, kale salad, and french fries - fantastic!
My wife ordered a California Burger and couldn't stop talking about how good it was. Both were done properly (mine medium, hers well), but both were still juicy and tender. I wish I knew how to make burgers like this.
I was only sad that we couldn't finish it all and had to take it home. Don't worry though, even reheated, both were still delicious.
Like the Terminator, I'll be back!
Second time here with a casual yet refined ambience and a variety of food options and amazing specials there really is something here for everyone. The artichoke dip was delicious and had the best taste of lemon in it which really brightened it up and made it special. The pasta Al Forno is comforting and warm. The special of the evening red snapper with sweet potato and kale risotto was superb. Everyone else in the restaurant who ordered it too also cleaned their plates! Can’t wait to come back. (Look online for their week night deals which can’t be beat)
We had a fantastic dinner at Fran's! This restaurant is a gem- not sure why I haven't tried before. We shared the Fried Green Tomatoes for appetizer and they were out of this world- the fry was light letting the tomato shine through and the goat cheese, tomato and pepper jelly topping was sublime. For dinner, we had the crab cakes- delicious. The chocolate cake was the perfect ending to a perfect meal!
When we saw the size of the restaurant, we were concerned that it wouldn't be conducive to conversation, but we were wrong. It was not noisy at all and we had no problem chatting over dinner. All three of us really enjoyed our dinner. We decided we'll have to go back a number of times to order everything on the menu that we wanted.
Very good, as always. Menu nicely accommodates those wanting a full multi-course dinner as well as those just wanting something lighter.
Crispy ribs and lightly fried okra starters - both specials - were winners.
A couple of guests at our table commented that entrees seemed overly salty, though they loved what they ordered.
My husband and I tried this restaurant during charlotte restaurant week. I was a little concerned when we arrived and saw it was in a nondescript strip mall but had heard the menu was good. We were very pleasantly surprised and pleased with our meal- the portions were generous and the food was excellent. We LoVE mussels and these may have been the best we have had in the city! We also had a flatbread, delicious steak and snapper. Food was all very well prepared and seasoned and we enjoyed the staff and cocktails. We will definitely be back!
