excellent, consistent healthy and creative comfort food choices and great service and value in a great charlotte neighborhood location
The service was very good and friendly. The food was fantastic and loved the fried Green Tomators! Would highly recommend Fran’s Filling Station! We have had both lunch and dinner!
My husband and I had a wonderful time at Fran's for my birthday dinner. We made reservations through Open Table for a Friday night at 6. When we arrived we were seated promptly in the front of the restaurant. It was a rainy night and only about half of the restaurant was full by 8 when we left.
We ordered the lobster dip for our app. It was served promptly with delicious grilled garlic bread. The wedge salad was big enough for two with a fantastic dressing. The cilantro and corn added a nice touch. My husband had the salmon with broccoli and rice. It had a sweet bourbon glaze that was delicious. The crab cakes were large (and mostly crab) and the slaw and sauce that came with them were lemony and perfect. The NY cheesecake was a perfect size with the best dulce de leche drizzle, fresh whipped cream, and fresh fruit. Hubs got the peanut butter cake. He said it was moist and he loved the fresh fruit on top as well. I had coffee and it was very strong but really good!
The ambiance was cozy and Phillip our server was kind, knowledgeable, and engaging.
Overall great experience. Phillip mentioned that on Mondays and Tuesdays in the Tap room you can bring kids and listed an extensive kid's menu.
Great food and Great value in a very comfortable setting.
This was my first visit to Fran’s. It won’t be my last. I ate the fried chicken sandwich and a cup of the corn chowder soup of the day. Both were delicious. Karen was my server and she was outstanding! Great place. Highly recommend.
This place is really good. And Fran is such a nice person and run a good place.
OK, compared to a Michelin restaurant (I have been to one or two).....well, not quite. But the food is very good, and at a much more reasonable price.
The ambiance is very good for me. Maybe I like Fran's taste or the feeling of Charlotte feels good. Something. I like it!
Our neighborhood gem whose reputation for fresh and delicious. Visitors to the QC should put it on their list of must do’s .
We are foodies, and eat out 3 times per week at Charlotte restaurants. Dont know of many we haven’t experienced. In all my time on open table, I have never written a bad review, understanding this is someone’s business.
The restaurant was not busy. We received the worst service of any dining experience we have had within the last 5 years. Our drinks came, and my tea was delivered without any sweetener (which I had requested, being diabetic. We did not have the waiter to come back by so I had to go to the bar finally and get sweeteners. My wife’s cocktail was not brought with the tea, and was finally brought over about 10 minutes later. Our appetizer took 20 minutes to be brought to table (but it was delicious). I drank my tea completely, given we were waiting for so long, and waited 20 minutes before I was offered a refill with it empty. I had to drink my wife’s water for my meal. During this time, our food came, and my wife was given someone else’s meal, which she took a bite out of (she had ordered a chicken sandwich and it was a burger). A different person other than our waiter came out and I feel sure served it with just adding a new bun to the person who had ordered it, and brought my wife the correct food. We have eaten here before and enjoyed the experience. But with all these areas missing the mark, we will not be returning to dine here again.
Food & service were both good. Good restaurant that isn't too pricey. Only issue was with appetizer. We requested it without the chopped onions and it came with them.
Great food and service. Always love our experience.
We were greeted by the owner who was incredibly rude as soon as we walked in. She was flustered about seating our party even though we had reservations and arrived right when the restaurant opened and no other customers were there. She then snapped at one of us to close the door when our group was just trying to make our way in the door. Then the waiter overheard one of us talking about how she now does google reviews. He then proceeded to talk about how they had recently gotten some unfair reviews from demanding guests. Some other misfortunes....My husband waited for awhile to get his soda, I was given a plate with what looked like lipstick on it, and we were supposed to get more bread to eat with the appetizer and it never came until the end of the main course. It’s unfortunate the service and atmosphere were so bad because the food was actually quite good.
The food was quite good but it took over an hour for us to get our entrees
Great food and wonderful service as always!
The food is always delicious and the service is great. We were there on a Monday night and it was very quiet but on weekends, it's very busy.
Normally good place. Bad night. Left without eating.
Great food and Francisco was a great waiter
Service and food was great. As it got later in our dinner time it got a little noisy
Great food and atmosphere. The shrimp and grits was excellent and the bread pudding perfect. We will be back!
Even on a very busy night all was great
Thanks Fran another wonderful evening
Always a good meal. We dined here this time for restaurant week which made it an excellent value. Regardless of that.. food and service are worth the visit!
Restaurant week was probably not the best time to try this new restaurant. I don't believe they were prepared for that type of crowd. The food was alright but even with reservations we waited 45 minutes. It is possible that it would have been a more relaxed experience had we visited on a regular week.
I really wanted to enjoy my time at Fran's because the food was outstanding. But with that said, the service was some of the worst service we have ever experienced in a restaurant. It would be hard to recommend because it was made it for not an enjoyable time.
Hostess was clueless. We stated our name and the time of the reservation, she said “ok its restaurant week so it is busy”. We knew it was restaurant week, thats why we made a reservation and wanted to eat there. Five minutes later the hostess approaches us again and proceeds with her initial greeting as if she is just seeing us for the first time. We stated that we have a reservation and give her our name again, 30 mins after our reservation our table of 4 were seated. Chicken dishes were bland with not enough seasoning, sides were good however. Overall won’t return, which is sad because our previous visit was worth a return visit. Oh well
Fran puts alot of time, thought and creativity into her menu and product (wine & beer list) in general. This is a cozy, intimate place for a date or special anniversary dinner. Rest assured that your wait staff will be attentive and Fran will personally come around and ask your party how everything is. That extra touch of authenticity and caring about her guests is what makes Fran's different than any other restaurant in Charlotte.
Fran, the owner, was extremely rude at the end of our dinner. I have never experienced anything like this out of all the restaurants I have ever been to. We finished our meal, signed our checks, and less than a minute later, she walks up to our table and says, “I hate to be inhospitable, but I need your table for people that are waiting.” Who in their right mind would ever do that to customers who just spent almost $200 on dinner for only 3 people. I told her she was extremely rude and how would you ever tell a customer, who had a reservation and just finished their meal, that they need to leave when they just signed there checks. She says, I’m sorry you feel that way, but I need the table. Definitely do not recommend this place and will never be back here.
As always, amazing food
Fran’s is my very favorite restaurant in Charlotte. Food is consistently great, the staff is super friendly and it’s always a good experience. Order the Latin Wedge and add chicken....it’s the best salad in Charlotte.
We went for restaurant week and everything was amazing. We were seated promptly, our server was great, and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The butterscotch busing was probably our favorite part of the whole meal though!
Fabulous appetizers, amazing margaritas and great entrees! And Fran herself! Couldn't ask for anymore!
Great experience on a busy Saturday for restaurant week. Such a great team effort with service and the food was amazing.
Menu looked promising, tea tasted like mold, appetizers were ok, meatloaf good, meatballs good, didnt expect frozen green beans, pecan crusted chicken had dijon underneath-weird combo, desserts very good...little pricey for the food quality..go next door to Fiamma for a much better selection with great food, quality, and service!
I had heard good things about this place so we went during restaurant week. The Cuban bites appetizer was embarrassing to say the least. Of the 3 small separate bites, one was nothing but bread, pickles, and mustard. The second one had maybe 1/5 of the small bite covered with ham and the rest of it was just bread mustard, and pickle. The third had half of the bread covered with ham. Ridiculous. My wife's meat loaf tasted like it was Swanson frozen variety. While the salmon that I had was good, the portion was so small that I had to eat leftovers out of my fridge when we got home. We will never go back. Very disappointing.
We really enjoyed to food and especially the bacon wrapped tots and those desserts were amazing!
Service was great and fast. Pastrami was tough and stringy.
Very welcoming place
Wish more menu choices but food was very good and service great
Great food and great service!
Lovely friendly staff. Food is delicious. So tasty and great value. 50$ for their date night offer. Share starter, dinner each and one bottle of wine. We will definitely go back here.
Loved our meal at Fran's! Two of us (women) each had the meatballs w/ orzo and a salad. We could have easily spilt both, but it was great having the leftovers at home the next night! DELICIOUS!!!
Salad is called The Great Big - beets, green beans, goat cheese, garbanzo beans, sunflower seed, lettuces
mozzarella, pecorino, house pomodoro choice of cheesy orzo or braised greens
Fran is an amazing restauranteur, she makes sure everyplace that comes out is up to her high standards, we love going to Fran as every dish is always delicious and inventive!
