Frankie & Johnnie's Steakhouse - Rye Ratings and Reviews
According to the hostess, my reservation was for 2 people, not 4. Therefore, I had to wait
over 1/2 for a table. The table was not a table I would ordinarily accept, but the restaurant was full. I am sure if they had 4 not 2 people the table I was given would have been the same.
Saturday night is not a good night to judge a restaurant. I frequently dine at Frankie & Johnnnie's and know the owner very well. The service was slow, but he made up for it.
Please note above that this reservation WAS for 4, not 2 people.
We went on restaurant week and ordered off of the special menu. I thought the portions were meager, the choices limited and very disappointing. We go often and generally find the food good, so if they can't keep up their high standard during restaurant week, they should not participate!
We went for Restaurant Week. In front of the Restaurant Week Menu there was a page that said Daily Specials with no prices. It seemed to be for Restaurant Week. We ordered dinner and ate.
I asked for the check and saw I was being charged ala carte prices. I said to the waiter this is Restaurant Week. For the first time he said you ordered Daily Specials. I said there were no prices it appeared they were for Restaurant Week. He said you should have asked. Really?
This is a common occurrence in this place of screwing customers. We were here awhile ago and my wife was buying dinner. She gave the server her credit card then asked me to check the bill. They had charged our party of 4 for things we didn't order. We had to get the manager involved to get it corrected.
Now we have this situation the other day where the waiter tells me I should have asked.
So i paid $90 just for 2 average steaks instead of less than that for 2 full dinners.
We will NEVER go back here again.
You will just take some friendly advice and be VERY careful and check your bill. The errors they make are ALWAYS in their favor!
We were very pleased with our night out at Frankie &Johnnie's. Great place for a special occasion. The food was delicious, including desert ( I had the bread pudding which was to die for). The service was great. Some steakhouses are snobby, not here. The staff was so warm and friendly, I loved it. It was expensive, but we'll be back!
Won’t be going back here again. Terrible experience. Tuesday night took my wife here for our anniversary. Who knew there would be a crowd of guys roaring at a baseball game and thumping the bar throughout. Left early - couldn’t hear ourselves think. Would have been quieter in a noisy sports bar. Awful. If you guys want to be a sports bar that’s fine but completely unacceptable for a restaurant.
We went to F&J's to celebrate some of our family members becoming US citizens. The atmosphere is great, the food and the service was great. All of us said it was one of the best family meals we have ever had. Highly recommended we will go back. Be prepared for a sizable and if that's not a problem for you the meal and occasion won't be a disappointment.
Rib eye steaks were cooked to order but were very fatty and grisly. Not much edible meat. Asparagus were not fresh or out of season resulting in being woody. Apple strudel apples were undercooked and the pastry was soggy. Should be a flaky pastry. The grilled octopus special was excellent. The wedge salad was good.
Maybe it was the holiday weekend, but although I have been to Frankie & Johnnie's many time, would now think twice about returning! It was my son't birthday and was his pick, we were all looking forward to some great "red meat". The steaks were not only not sizzling on the hot plates, but plates and the steaks were not hot, underdone, and no one in site to tell this to. REALLY disappointing! A lot of money for a mediocre stead dinner.
The food was great, but that's about it. It wasn't a busy night, only one other couple eating dinner, yet the waiter still forgot to bring a side dish. The bar was in the dining room and there were a bunch of loud drunks watching a ballgame, along with most of the waiters. By loud, IDi mean screaming when talking, screaming louder, cheering, clapping, and high-fiving when something happened in the game, and generally acting like sophomoric jerks. It was like being at a bad sports bar.
It was impossible to enjoy the dinner. This behavior apparently was ok with management as they let it go on the entire time that we were there. Not something you expect to have to deal with when spending well over $100 a person. Completely ruined dinner.
We've been there a few times before and thoroughly enjoyed our meal .... almost.. I say almost because the bread that was brought to the table was, at best, a day old, possibly more. Considering the prices charged for dinner there should never be stale bread. When I told the waiter to either bring fresh bread or, at the very least, heat this up, he took it away. I was a bit surprised when the same bread came back moderately warmed.
We had cocktails, two bottles of wine, filet mignons, sides, all were great .... what sticks out in my mind, stale bread. 🙊 Tsk tsk tsk tsk
Frankie & Johnnie's in Rye is an awesome place to be! Had a great night out with my friends for one of my friend's birthdays! Had the Jumbo Lump Crabmeat Cocktail, split the Tomahawk Ribeye for Two, and had Truffle Fries, Broccoli Rabe, Creamed Spinach, and Garlic Mashed Potatoes as Sides. All excellent! The Chocolate Soufflé was delicious! Dean did a tremendous job as our waiter! Wonderful time with a terrific atmosphere!
The bartender made an excellent vodka martini, it was perfect!! That set my mood in the right direction. We had a nice table upstairs and the service staff was attentive.
I ordered the bone in filet mignon which I ordered medium rare. It arrived just as it should. I thought it was more chewy than expected since the last time I was here it melted in my mouth. It was flavorful I thought but for me the consistency was off. My husband tasted it and said it was really good.
He rest of he table order baby lamp chops which were a special and they raved over them.
I ordered the chocolate soufflé which came out 5 min later( they usually take at least 20min I think) it was way over cooked, so I guess they pre bake them. I was just hoping for a moist soufflé which I didn't get. The others got a tartufo and some apple crumb which they really enjoyed.
He owner Vos is very nice and welcoming and my overall experienced I enjoyed.
Haven't been to f&j in a while Went with Dr Wolfson I had the lobster bisque which was very good and kale salad also very good Dr Wolfson had the salad with blue cheese and he had the Chilean Seabass which he said was good all in all it was a good night service was excellent
