Frankie & Augie'Z Ratings and Reviews
We frequent Frankie & Augie'Z and as always, the food was delicious!
We were seated right away and the waiter was very pleasant and accommodating.
The owner came up to our table to make sure everything was to our liking. The portions are very generous! We all took leftovers home.
A great place to have a casual dinner with friends.
Always a great dining experience. Excellent service whether it's a slow or a busy day. It is apparent that they care about their customers. The food the kitchen prepares is some of the best around. My favorite is the Chicken Valdostano; crispy breaded cutlet, prosciutto, mozzarella, tomato, mushrooms, onions, marsala wine. Perfetto!
I want to like this restaurant as a neighborhood Italian casual family place. But we just don't like their food very much. Their red sauce looks and tastes like tomato soup with too much sugar and not enough herbs like oregano or basil. It's too sweet and just not my taste.
We had reservations for four people. The four of us arrive on time. The host brings us to a table for four EXCEPT it only had two chairs. He walked away after leaving four menus and never returned with chairs. There many empty tables that we could have been seated at but he left us standing . After several minutes the waitress brought us to a different table. No apologies, nothing was said or offered. The host never came back to us.
The menu has many choices and the food is okay if you want to remain in the area. We ordered antipasto where all the mussels were closed tight. We had to ask that we get mussels that were opened. It was our first time here, we won't be rushing back only if we want Italian food that's just okay.
We were all from out of town for a niece's West Point graduation, staying half hour away. The restaurant's service after our graduation celebration event was the BEST: they tracked me down (through my cell phone for the Open Table reservation -- great benefit) after one of my guests had left some of her gifts at the restaurant. Really appreciated that extra effort by the restaurant staff and for being there earlier enough Sunday morning that I could get on the road to other points westward. It was a crowded Saturday night, so a bit noisy, but we had lots of fun. Food was solid Italian meal and plenty of it (if you want leftovers, this is the place). The chicken Marsala I had and the steamed vegetables were excellent.
Went with 2 groupons for 2 people each and the waiter would not accept 2 for the table. He did not check with the manager to see if any exception would be made. We ended up purchasing an additional groupon for 4 people at the same price. Food was decent, not the best or worst Italian I've ever had.
This is one busy, loud, Italian restaurant, where everyone seemed to know someone there, like the “old neighborhood”; a good sign. The place was packed and lots of pizzas walking out the door for meatless Friday. I’m glad I made an Open Table reservation.
We ordered drinks and a basket of freshly made bread and a dish of seasoned olive oil arrived at the table. As expected for a restaurant serving pizza, the bread had good chew. Due to the crowds, our server was good but could have been more attentive...more on that later. Our order included fried calamari appetizer, linguine in clam sauce, and scungilli & calamari fra diavolo. The calamari had a nice crisp breading, not oily, and had a sweet and light texture. The linguine was full of clams and garlic but needed a bit of salt. And unfortunately the restaurant ran out (or didn’t order enough scungilli – very disappointed) and our server offered more calamari or a substitution of shrimp. I went with the shrimp. The dish arrived with plenty of seafood. But the sauce was lacking and our server didn’t return so I didn’t inform him it was lacking any pepper flakes and was very similar to the sauce on the side dish of pasta. While he offered he could have brought the pepper flakes as he took the bill...it was too late to fix. Overall it was a good dinner, the pasta was al dente, the amount of food was plentiful, and the food was tasty. I’d go back but I would call first to make sure they have the scungilli.
They advertise happy hour and the bar was packed with drinkers and diners. They also had live music - a piano player. Not sure if this is an every day feature or not.
Stopped in for lunch because we had business in the area. Service was very attentive. The Tortellini en Brodo was very good (& a generous portion). The Eggplant Rollatini was average (good, but nothing to write home about). The veal was most disappointing (a good brown sauce, but the veal was tough). First time here; next time I may try the pizza.
Frankie & Augie'z was participating in a charitable event for the Prin/Levine family who had lost their home in a fire recently. We had never been to F & A'z before, and only went to dinner there in order to help the charity. But now that we know how good F & A'z is, we will surely be back for more.
Busy, high energy restaurant. The food was delicious and plentiful. The service was great considering the place was packed with several diners waiting for a table. Reservations not required but I would recommend making one. Live piano a welcome addition. Would definitely return and would recommend to friends.
Very crowded. Had to wait 15 minutes for table even with reservation. Service a bit slow; waiter did not come by often enough. Portions big enough for sharing or taking home. House wine good and reasonably priced. Food good -- typical for local Italian restaurant.
This restaurant seems to be our go to place for three of us. It is equal distance for all of us to go. We enjoy the food, the wine and the feel of the casual Italian dinning. I had the mushroom risotto with peas and onion and loved it. The service is always superb. We will be back next time us gals are missing some meet up time.
The service was friendly and efficient. However, the food was bland. The side dish of penne badly needed salt. There was not enough sauce on it either. The salad was drenched in dressing. Nowadays the salad dressing is usually on the side. Even the chocolate mousse was tasteless. They definitely need to up their game in the kitchen.
Good local Italian. We used a Groupon with no hassle and good value. We had various dishes that were equally good. Veal Parm, eggplant rollatini, Lasagna. Apps were fried zucchini and capresse tomato and mozzarella. Good. Service was attentive. House red wine was drinkable. We picked up pizzas the next night which were very good.
We never used our reservation. I cancelled it directly with the restaurant because I couldn't find where to cancel it through the app. We cancelled because when we arrived it was just too much like a diner and we were looking for a restaurant. It looked fine though and perhaps we will try it another time.
Good food. Group of 4 girls who hadn't seen each other in a while. Staff didn't rush us at all. Calamari app and shrimp/roasted peppers app special were delicious. Filet of sole and salmon dishes yummy. Plan to try pasta dish next time. Bar area has nice ambiance. Definitely a hidden gem. Will be back.
Not our first time here and definitely wanted to get back. Restaurant Week provided a great reason. F&A's did not disappoint!!! Great menu, Huge portions and no rushing us to the next course. Its been a long time since we've sat in peace and were allowed to eat at a nice, easy pace. It was a night out for dinner instead of a stop in for a meal.
The wait staff was excellent!! Friendly guys who knew the menu backwards and forwards.
An overall fantastic experience.
Our meals were good but they had way too much sauce/gravy on them. I had to remove my chicken from the brown sauce as I felt like I was eating a soup. It was tasty but just too much sauce. I would love to see them hold back on the amount of sauce that lands in the plate. Otherwise a nice meal.
We made our reservations through the Hudson Valley Restaurant Week/Open Table site. It was my husband's birthday, I requested a candle in his dessert. The hostess never said she didn't have our open table reservation. The waiter knew nothing about Restaurant Week (that's why we went there). He even took my phone to the front to ck. They said they were not part of Restaurant Week. We decided to stay. The dinner was delicious. At the end of the meal, I went to the front to ask why they never brought the candle for my husband. The hostess said she didn't know because they didn't have my open table reservation. They brought another man out who just said it was his fault. I was disappointed I had to go through all this for my husband's birthday.
