We ate dinner here and the service and food was beyond what we expected. We will be back
We made a reservation online for 8:45pm only to find out when arriving that the kitchen closes at 9pm. We were rushed to order, could not get anything past 9pm. We tried to order mashed potatoes at 9:02pm and was told the chef already took the left over items downstairs and was out the door to clean up already. My food was undercooked and was told the chef could adjust it but would have to stop cleaning first. I was not comfortable having my food go back down to a half cleaned kitchen for cooking. The server tried to be nice about it, but I was very, very disappointed.
All our meals were excellent. Best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Also shepherds pie delicious
I was expecting a true Irish Pub experience and I felt cheated. The restaurant was attractive and inviting. However, the food was okay. I had the Irish Nachos plate. I was deeply disappointed. It was potato fries with chunks of cornbeef and mozzarella. Then, I ordered the fish and chips. I received 2 huge fried fish patties with more potato fries. I guess I was expecting too much. If there is a next time, I will order the steak. First impressions are highly important. Unfortunately, this restaurant didn't impress me. However, I am willing to give this place a second chance because the service was good.
Food was good, but we also went for the signing and music, which unfortunately wasn't available due to covid.
Even though the restaurant is quiet now during the pandemic, it still provided us with a lovely place to eat great food and enjoy the pleasant service. All precautions were taken to ensure separation and cleanliness. Food is always delicious. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Miss the usual non-pandemic music and lively crowd, but food, staff, and decor still gave us a good experience for our infrequent trips out these days.
We were celebrating our 56th anniversary! Had a wonderful meal! Service excellent! Everyone was very friendly! Food was delicious!!
My wife had the Fish and Chips and I enjoyed the Shepherd's Pie. We traveled to Ireland for our 20th Wedding Anniversary a few years ago and I can in complete honesty say that the Fish and Chips was the best since our visit to Ireland. The portion was so generous that I was able to enjoy some as well. Perfectly done and not in any way greasy. I had not prior to this visit, enjoyed the Shepherd's Pie and it was absolutely delicious. If we make it to Galena again, I will most definitely want to enjoy it as one of my meals while we're in town. Truly wonderful and delicious. Enjoyed an Irish Coffee with our meal and it was spectacular as well. Frank O'Dowd's Irish Pub and Grill is worth the trip. You will not be disappointed. For the quality of the food served, the prices are quite reasonable. – Michael T., St. Louis
The food and service were outstanding. I will be back.
Great service and great entertainment
Valentines
Very nice atmosphere.
Enjoyed the unique atmosphere, Irish dancing & live music. Our server was trying but they seemed to be understaffed. The shepherds pie was a tasty comfort dish. Don’t bother with the flat bread. Unfortunately, the wine was awful, tasted like it had been open too long.
good food and music was nice. a good way to spend a cold winter eve.
This is like a little bit of Dublin right in our own backyard. It looks like it it feels like it and they make you feel like you're part of the family. They have and it out standing selection of both Irish whiskies as well as scotches. The food preparation is excellent. But those that stay overnight the breakfasts are absolutely fun and I look forward to knowing what it is each week. But those that stay overnight the breakfasts are absolutely fun and I look forward to knowing what it is each week It's not an established menu they have something special and it can range from crepes too stuffed pancakes to special cinnamon toast it's just wonderful. This is a place you want to visit.
My Wife and I love going to frank odowds whenever we are in Galena. The food is awesome. We always get the Irish Wolfhound drink when we are there. Totally Love them. Waitstaff is friendly and prompt. AndJoy is the best bartender there. Highly recommend . Entertainment on weekend is awesome.
Fun place for an evening out for date night or a group of people.
Yes but not through open table. We had the smallest table in the corner where people waited for tables. It was not a pleasant experience being bumped into often.
Great food, excellent entertainment, not to mention reasonably priced.
Food was good; but seems too preplated without enough options (i.e. baking potato vs mashed potatoes.) Menu needs more vegetarian and vegan selections.
Great service and lovely live music in a festive environment!
Music and service was great. We got our food very quickly. So quickly I question how fresh things are. Tasted good though.
Food was ok at best. Drinks were good, except my martini that tasted like cough syrup. Just not something I liked. Was very, very loud. Entertainment sound system was horrible. Waitress seemed to be upset with every table...like we were wasting her time...and didn't check on tables like she should have. I'd go elsewhere personally.
Had an absolutely delicious piece of salmon with wonderful mashed potatoes. My husband and the other couple we were with had the Shepherd's Pie. It was good but not nearly as good as my meal. We had an appetizer (the fried cheese curds as our friends were from another state and had never had them) and they were real good as well. We had a fabulous waitress. She was from another country, and I thought I would remember her name, but I can't, darn it. She did everything well, was attentive, friendly, and we enjoyed a nice conversation with her as well. There was no music the night we were there. We would have liked to have sat by some windows in a different part of the restaurant, but that part was closed off the evening we were there. We stayed at the hotel where the Pub is and ate breakfast in that area the next morning. The best scones!!!
Had a Great time at Franks, the waitresses were Great.. We had the Reuben sandwiches and they were Excellent... tried Smithwicks and Harp Beers .. I now have a new favorite Irish beer... We will be back
Great food, great service, great place to eat. Will definitely go again the next time we’re in Galena.
One of the best Reuben sandwiches I’ve ever eaten! Saturday night entertainment was nice, but very difficult to hear. Pub very crowded and noisy.
Food was great and music and atmosphere was wonderful.
The food and price is overrated. I wouldn’t go back.
I was very happy that they opened on a Monday, but myself and my wife's food was cold sent it back and vegetables were undercooked and not hot.
Menu was limited but the food was tasty. Good alcohol selection. Would return.
We had a table reserved for our Anniversary on a Friday night, we arrived a bit early and they were able to seat us. We had a nice card wishing us a happy anniversary on the table which was a nice touch. The service was on point and the food delicious. Absolutely recommend Frank O'Dowd's.
Always a fun time.
I greatly enjoyed our dining experience! The food was excellent, the service was outstanding, and the live music was awesome! I would definitely go back the next time I"m in Galena!
Great place for food and listen to great music!
The hostess greeted us. I told her we had a reservation. She didn't know about any reservation.
I booked the reservation through OpenTable.
Service felt hurried even though the place wasn't crowded. We felt rushed to order our drinks. Then we were rushed to order our food. It felt like she was trying to get rid of us just when we got seated. We were there to eat and enjoy the live music. The waitress' name was Debbie.
FOOD WAS GREAT !!!
Great beer and food. Loved our Reubens! Live entertainment was enjoyable. We were a family of 3 with a 7 year old child and we all had a great time.
Excellent service... good was great. It was slow, but we dug it. Although seeing some live music would've been nice too.
Atmosphere was very nice... people were friendly... service was very good.
The food was acceptable but not incredible. I had a Rueben sandwich and is was pretty good but the French fries were not very good. My husband ordered a side salad at a charge of $3.95...it was very small and not worth the price. My husband ordered the Fish Fry and he said it was mediocre. We'll probably go back and give it another try the next time we're in town.
