Only complaint the air conditioning was a bit cold
Food was great once we got a server. We had a reservation, but had to wait for a table anyway. Recommend do not go there on a weekend night when there’s a game or production at Golden One stadium. They cannot handle how busy it is.
Frank Fat has wonderful food but unfortunately management did not prepare to serve a private party and Saturday night concert goers. We arrived 20 minutes before our 6pm reservation and were never served nor even acknowledged by a server up until the time we walked out at 730pm for our concert. The staff tried but it was obvious that there were not enough employees and the private party took preference. I recommend Fat’s but take my advice and avoid it on a Saturday if you are downtown for an event
Our reservations were at 6::00PM, got there at 5:40PM. Weren't seated until 6:55PM. Restaurant blamed the delay on a glitch with Opentable. We had concert tickets for 8:00PM and had to hurry our dinner. Not a pleasant experience. Our waiter was superb, and did everything possible to get our food to us.
We made reservations months before the date we had tickets for a performance. We made reservations for 6:00 pm to ensure that we would have plenty of time to make it to the performance. When we arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation, the restaurant was packed and people were waiting in line out the door. When I told the hostess we had a reservation she said so did everyone that was waiting and that there were no tables available. Some people had already been waiting more than 30 minutes for their reserved table. The hostess could not tell us when our reserved table would be available. I asked why they would make more reservations than the restaurant could accommodate. They said that they had not taken the reservations, but they had all been booked through Open Table. I thought that Open Table was limited in the number of reservations that could be made in a particular time slot based on the number of tables in the restaurant.
At 6:30 the hostess announced that her manager could not estimate when any of the waiting customers would be seated. There were at least 20 or more people waiting at that time, some of whom had 5:30 reservations.
We decided to wait until 6:45 since at that point we wouldn’t have been able to get a reservation any place else. Finally we were seated at 6:50. This was totally unacceptable. What’s the point of having a reservation if you aren’t seated until 50 minutes after the reservation time. What should have been a relaxed dinner before a show turned into a nightmare. We couldn’t enjoy the meal because we were afraid that it wouldn’t be served in time for us to get to our performance. Although the food and service were good once we were seated, the hostess made no attempt to provide any customer service or explanation other than to blame it on Open Table. No offers were made to comp beverages to the customers who had been waiting for over an hour.
This whole situation was just wrong on so many levels.
Food always dependably delicious. Conveniently located within walking distance to Golden1 with garage next door
We had reservations at 5:45 arrived on time. One of two courses arrived at 7:25 without the rice.during this time frame People who had no reservations and sat at the bar were served their food and had left before we had gotten ours. We had tickets for Golden one to see Andrea Bocelli. Ended up calling the manager over to cancel the rest of our order and request our bill.
The Walnut Prawns needed more walnuts. There was only a few. Also the prawns should have been sweeter. They were almost not sweet at all and were dry with a crispy texture.
The Cod was said to feed 4 but looks like it could only feed one. 4 people could only get about one table spoon each. The cod had a great texture and did taste very good.
So basically the only negative is the serving sizes are small for family style with exception of the tofu but they could improve on their Walnut Prawns.
Our bill was $170 before tip.
Great food as usual. Our waiter was wonderful. All of the staff was fantastic.
Enjoyed our graduation celebration for our party of 8. Food was very tasty, service very attentive, noise level perfect in that we could hear each other talk, and banana cream pie was perfect as dessert. Would return. Thank you!
Good food. Loud due to customer's and the nature of it being busy. However, it wouldn't stop me from going there again. Really good service too.
We had a late lunch to celebrate my mothers 80th birthday. The restaurant was perfect - opened in 1939, the same year my mom was born. We had a glass of sparkling wine and one Mai Tai. All were delicious. We shared the vegetable spring rolls, the sauteed green beans and pot stickers. My mom had the orange chicken, my brother had the short rib stew and I had the chicken lettuce cups. All were fresh and original in the flavors only Frank Fat's can do. The crown jewel is their pork fried rice - actually, any rice. The very best rice any of us ever had, has always been here. The service is always efficient and low key. It was quiet enough to have a conversation but then again, it was a 2:00 pm reservation and the lunch crowd just left when we arrived. This place is the staple of Sacramento and beloved by all. If you have not had this experience, do. It would even change the mind of one who may have thought they were not fond of Chinese cuisine!
Apart from the food and drink arrival being quite slow, it was a very nice dining experience.
The service made the experience even better and the food was perfect.
Was absolutely amazing. Great place to eat if you are ever in the area.
We had dined here for the first time In February this year. We thought it was the best Chinese Food we'd ever had. And we eat a lot of Chinese. We knew we'd be back in a few months on vacation and said we're not going to miss diner at Frank Fat's. We made reservations on line, easy peezee. We arrived on time, immediately seated. Our waiter was very cordial and answered all of our questions. All of the other wait staff that came back asked how we were doing and could they get us anything. Diner was great, adult beverages were great. All in all another fantastic experience. We'll be back.
Frank Fat's is my new favorite Chinese food restaurant in Sacramento. Cocktails, service, and food were all amazing. 100% just go to this place, you will not be disappointed. Immigrant's beef was 'thumbs up'
Everything was great. Thank you!
Noisy in the main dinning room. Busy place but good service - fast paced - but the food was very flavorful and I see why people like it at Frank Fats.
The food and service was impeccable. We can't wait to go back. Wonderful dining experience.
The food and drinks at Frank Fat’s are consistently outstanding! Great service as well. The wife and I celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary on this particular evening and were never disappointed! We finished things off with the restaurants remarkably delicious banana cream pie.
Best dinner out in Dacramento I have had in years! Former Sac residents now living in San Juan joined me for a blow out dinner the night before flying home. Fat's exceeded my expectations! From the decor, ambiance comfort of a booth far back, to Luis our waiter, awesome. We had four appetizers, four entrees and were served up by Luis and shared by all. The cocktails and wine pours were wonderful too. I was so proud of my hometown Fat's!
A very delicious and enjoyable meal. Will return more often.
Really tentative service! The food comes in larger portions so it’s great for sharing.
Tables for two too tight and too close to adjacent tables. Servers kept bumping into me. I could hear everything the people said at the next table. Not too pleasant to be so crowded.
Food was amazing. Bar was very slow, and drinks were not good. Lipstick on the glassware too.
I only put stars to get to this part of the feedback. They have great food. But if you make a late reservation thru open table at this restaurant do not expect them to honor it. They knew we were coming. As soon as we walked in the door (on time) they said the kitchen is closed but they could stir fry some dishes for us. We told them it was graduation dinner (most restaurants in area were very clear of Sac State’s graduation at Golden One). They said we tried to call. There was no register of their number and I had my phone on the entire night. They did not call. I said I made them on open table and she rolled her eyes and said those aren’t guaranteed. So know this before making reservations there. If you’re lucky enough for them to honor your reservation, the food is outstanding. So outstanding you won’t just settle for stir fry!! Poorly done Frank Fats!! Wonder if the owner is even aware their employees decided to treat a customer that way so they could go home early!!!!
Tables are pushed together but it’s the only way to serve more people. The food is wonderful!
Chinese food was off the hook. Was so full we weren't even going to eat the banana cream pie dessert. But I thought we should taste it since it came with the Tuesday night special! And it was absolutely to die for as well
Frank Fat’s is our favorite restaurant in Sacramento. It is the best Chinese food around, consistently delicious. The service is friendly, professional and excellent. Happy hour is a good deal and drinks are a good value. Parking garage next door also friendly and secure. But the best deal is The Tuesday Special: 2 apps, 3 entrees, fried rice and 2 pieces of their famous pie for $50! They say for 2 people but we have fed 4 with this! But whenever you first try Frank Fat’s make sure to try the Honey Walnut Prawns.
Oh my, the food was delicious. We had the orange chicken and the mustard greens with mushrooms. Both were wonderful (the mushrooms were particularly good).
This is the best place for celebrations. Everything is always just right or better, the cocktails are amazing and of course, the food is awesome. Don't change a thing!
I love the Capitol Power Lunches.
The food and service were very good, but there was a mix-up over the reservation. I had asked for a quiet booth for a book group meeting. When I arrived at the restaurant a few minutes late, they said no one from my group had arrived yet, and they had no notice of my request for a booth. They kept me waiting another ten minutes while they set up a table. When they tried to seat me (in a noisy area), I asked if I could look at the booths. I found my group already seated in a booth, waiting for me to arrive.
The rest of the evening went smoothly and pleasantly, with excellent food and service. And the quiet booth was perfect for our book group.
Food was beyond my expectations, everything was so clean tasting & not greasy.
Happy hour menu had a wide variety of offerings but beer selection was meager. Very convenient to Golden 1 Center for pre-performance grubbing.
It was my BD and everything was wonderful
Food was delicious, service was great, restaurant was clean. It was a delightful evening!
My sister’s 66th birthday wish was to eat at Frank Fat’s for the first time. It happens to be one of my family’s favorite restaurants. She lives in SF where great restaurants abound and she’s a bit of a foodie, but I knew she would like it. Well, she LOVED it! Everything about it. Lunch was topped off with a complimentary slice of Fat’s famous banana cream pie since it was her birthday. And even though she crossed this off her bucket list, guess who wants to eat there again next time she’s in town? A fan is born.
An excellent evening! Our guests had restricted diets, and before we could tell our server, Paul, he asked! They accommodated us perfectly, including Vegan options. I chose the Mussels which were perfect, my wife had the Brandied Chicken that we loved, moist and crispy! The booths we cosy and they did not rush us! Just an excellent evening!
