Everything we ordered was delicious but the hot and sour soup was outstanding! Prices were reasonable for the quality of the food and service. Best Chinese restaurant in the area!
This gem of a restaurant, on an otherwise pretty deserted block of downtown but within walking distance of Golden One arena, the Crest theater, the Community Center, etc., never disappoints. Once inside, the space is inviting, the food superb and the wait staff attentive.
Wonderful food and service. The famous Honey Walnut Prawns are to die for! The best Chinese food in Sacramento.
We are never disappointed when we go to Frank Fat's
Wonderful food although I felt a little more guidance by the server would have been helpful as we hadn't been there before. Otherwise the service was impeccable. There is a nice parking garage right next door. The setting and art pieces are beautiful.
Outstanding as usual; from the drinks to getting the bill. Everything perfect. Great service; great food; always a treat....
Always a great place for a good meal and wonderful atmosphere. I will continue going here for future years and have been a patron since 1975.
Their famous banana cream pie is the best in town and always served complimentary on a birthday.
If you haven't been to the downtown Frank Fats then you haven't visited on of Sacramento's treasures.
I'm pretty sure I could eat everything on the menu because the food is so good here. But I'd better not.. Thanks for a great lunch!
Great place for fine chinese dinning and food. Portions are generous and excellent staff
This is our 4th visit to this restaurant and can't wait to go again. It is a 50 minute drive for us and worth the drive. The food is excellent and the service is excellent as well. The bar drinks are very good. We had the lettuce cups for appetizers and very filling. We ordered the New York Steak which is one of their signature dishes and it is so delicious and cooked to order perfectly.
The green beans are a little spicy which our friend and him loved but they were a bit spicy for my tastes. The fried rice and chow mein were excellent as well. They are known for their banana cream pie which is excellent as well but the chocolate cream pie is to die for. I love that they have a valet parking garage next to their restaurant so you do not have to look for parking.
Excellent birthday celebration dinner experience. The only negative, and it was minor in the long run, was we seemed a bit rushed. Parking garage right next door is convenient.
Frank Fat's Does NOT Disapoint
We went on a Wednesday evening thinking it would be a quiet night, glad we made reservations as it was packed. We were seated promptly.
Service was a little slower than usual, but still good overall.
Food was excellent as always.
Love to take out of towners here for a nice meal. Fun and unique Sactown experience.
I visited Frank Fat's restaurant over 20 years ago when I was a teenager with my parents. I enjoyed good Chinese food then as much as I do now. My husband is a big Peking duck fan and that dish didn't let us down! Such indulgent flavors, a pillow soft bao bun and not too fatty (in a good way!) We also shared a mixed chow mein that had nice firm shrimp, lean proteins and a savory sauce. The cocktails could use bit of a makeover for 2018, but overall service and food were great!
Food is consistently tasty, well prepared, and beautifully presented. We ordered three dishes - imperial chow mein, honey walnut prawns, and a half order of the peking duck. Delicious! And we took home leftovers. As it was my companion's birthday, he got a slice of banana cream pie (on the house). Service was very good. We even found parking just around the corner.
Outstanding food and service. Go for the banana cream pie for dessert - a specialty here!
My Husband’s Birthday.
I've been to other Fats restaurants and my wife and I thought we would try this one given it was her birthday and we were going to the theater later (walking distance).
We were early for our reservation and they were kind enough to take us early as long as we would finish before a certain time - we told them that wouldn't be a problem.
We were in no rush , but if we were I would say the service was a bit slow.
we were tucked against the wall and that felt a little tight especially when the other table was basically in our laps.
The Value is marked low given the prices for the food (high priced) , which was just okay - not outstanding.
What really struck me was the feeling of uncleanliness of the entire place - the walls/light switches were filthy - and the menus were overtly stained and oily. Again this is not what I would expect from this restaurant.
The Server was okay - but a bit inattentive.
I doubt if we would go back.
We love Frank Fat’s! We go often; but not often enough for how much we love the food and the servers. The drinks are always perfect as is the food and service. This time, as we always do, we asked for the corner booth in the Bar. It’s a favorite of ours if we are two, three, four or even more. We even sit there on Christmas Eve! This time when we arrived, we were barely greeted. I didn’t recognize anyone at the host podium. One manager, who is new, and two young women who were very busy having their own conversation. We waited while i looked towards “our booth”! It was taken. It was one of two places at the bar seating that were taken. I asked if they were leaving and was told no. “We can’t guarantee a seat, it’s a courtesy not a guarantee” said the manager! OK, I said, “did they ask for that seating?” No, we just gave it to them; and then as he realized what he just said, he said “they came at Happy Hour and seated themselves”. It was a lie.....if he (manager) had said that he was sorry for the inconvenience or even made some apology about what they did, I could have accepted it. He, and the two women thought it very funny.....I was not amused. The wait staff all told us how sorry they were, even the bartender! Not the manager....he came by a few times to make sure the food was OK, etc. and hope we were happy......I hope not to see him again, or the two women who were at the host podium....they do not speak well for the premium service the Fat family gives and wants from their staff......
Excellent food and service. Good ambience. Can feel a little crowded, but not intrusive.
Have been dining here several times a year for over 20 years. A must place whenever I'm in Sac. Usually for dinner but occasionally for lunch. Always a good selection of standards and unusual items. Price is right, service is good, decor is great. What's not to like? Favorites are honey walnut prawns, Shanghai noodles, stir fried tilapia, and if you'r into desserts the banana cream pie is a speciality, but be sure to try the chocolate cream as well.
All staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, although it took an abnormally long time to seat us with an empty restaurant. Light background music would have been a nice touch.
The food is always fantastic. Highly recommend.
Friendly staff and excellent service. More importantly, delicious food.
This is second time eating at Frank Fat's Restaurant. Both times everything was fantastic. The quality and quantity of the food was excellent and the service was attentive but not intrusive. We will definitely return as often as possible.
It was our first time there. Food was excellent. The manager asked us if we were willing to switch tables to accommodate another party in exchange for free banana cream pie! Amazing!
The décor is lovely, private booths in the back are very nice. The booths permit your group to have a quiet(er) environment and private discussion. The Honey Prawns, Pork Fried Rice and Mai Tai's are yummy.
I’ve been having lunch at Frank Fat’s for 35 years. Fat’s has changed a lot over the years, but the service and ambiance have never changed. Their menu and kitchen remain my favorite in Sacramento.
We had the best time. I will be remembering the Honey Walnut Shrimp and chocolate cream pie as some of THE best foods I have ever had. I loved the history of the building. It felt like we were meeting with politicians from days gone by, where the “real” negotiations happened. I can’t wait to go back
It’s always wonderful experience at Frank fats
Our reservation was not found at restaurant which surprised them, showed them email confirmation and they seated us without any issue. It was a busy night so server was missing at times and food was not as warm as we would have liked. This would not deter us from returning, just one of those nights.
Table wasn’t ready but the manager more than accommodated us otherwise. And all staff were outstanding
Outstanding in every way. The service was perfect and the Manager, Amir, could not have been more attentive and made sure that we were happy with our meal choices. The food was delicious!!!
Golden1 Center event
Fantastic experience once again at Frank Fats. Great business dinner before Sacramento Kings game. Food quality and service were at Frank Fats expected high level. Cant wait to come back!
A Sacramento landmark with excellent quality, selection and staff. Wow on that lychee martini, imperial chow mien and banana cream pie. Just wow.
We did not eat at this restaurant (our reservation was canceled) so not sure how we got checked in regardless. We were able to make a reservation at 9:30 for some reason however were told we would not be seated because they close their doors and kitchen at 9:30. Host was disrespectful and did not offer any reasoning or solution to the problem. Would not, by any means, recommend to anyone.
Overall very good, somewhat American Chinese. It is very different than the usually bad American Chinese food. I have been here at least 4 times on the way back from Reno. This one is super good. Better than most traditional Chinese restaurants in Bay Area. Curry short rib is very good. Combination platter is a must.
Excellent chinese food! The best I have had since moving to the Sacramento area! #1😊
The food and service at Fats is always excellent. The original of the restaurants has the better of the quality and taste of the food on the menu.
Great food and atmosphere. The menu is amazing. We brought our kids and they modified a few menu items to be more kid friendly, just ask.
