This was my 2nd time here and again it was awesome! The food was spectacular again, and in my opinion the best seafood in San Francisco.
I enjoyed my dinner at the Franciscan Crab. Prices were a little high but you do pay for the view and fresh seafood. It was quite busy when we were there however, the food came out quick. Ordered the crab Alfredo and Lotsa Crab (3 lbs for $70 USD). Overall, decent.
Perfect setting on the water to enjoy the sunset as you savor seafood dishes.
Really enjoyed our dinner. Took the fixed menu option and were surprised at the quantity and quality. The salmon was superb and lived the kustard ice cream. Thank you to Lauren who looked after us well.
The food, service and atmosphere was wonderful!
Seafood was fresh but dishes were very expensive. Service was good but restaurant was noisy. We did have a seat by the window that offered a beautiful evening view of the bay.
Disappointing meal. The server was put on the floor without sufficient knowledge of the menu. She didn't know substitution policy, had to go ask; didn't know type of oysters, had to go ask; didn't know what the food was like, hadn't tried anything. Each time we asked a question she would tll us it was her first day so she didn't know. Food was mediocre at best. Poor wine list.
Excellent food. Incredible view. Crab Louie the best
Good food, good service, good view.
We have passed this resterant many times. We finally decided to try it. WOW!!! Amazing food, the crab cakes were the best I've ever tasted. My husband had the salmon, I give it 5 stars, I had the dungeons crabs that were delicious.
I highly recommend this resterant
We had just gotten to San Francisco! It was so nice to eat at a waterfront restaurant with delicious food and beautiful views of the bay! We ate dinner looking at Alcatraz!
Such a strange place... touristy but SF institution. Very retro. Great views. Atmosphere more cold like diner but still worth it cuz food was so good in most cases. Clams in broth were so amazing I wanted to drink the broth. I took it home too with bread. The filet mignon was off the chart good. Kids ordered it and it was cooked perfectly and was so flavorful and tender... better than Bobo’s steakhouse on Lombard by far!! Octopus carpaccio was a miss — not tender and lacked acidity. Linguine and clams was delicious and others who ordered crab were very pleased. We had 9 in our group with adults and kids ranging from 9-14. Old friends and the staff didn’t car that we lingered. May not go back often because it is not really that type of place but certainly will be back again when craving an SF Wharf fix!
Family outing. Great scenery and the food was good too. Something for everyone.
They could have been quicker getting to us but the food and service were great
Great food, great service, and a FANTASTIC view of San Fran bay. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Place needs more crab option. Not just Donges. Attentive service and great view looking out to Marin and Golden Gate. Nice to go there once. Good tourist restaurant.
Great service excellent view and a good family meal.
Good food, but expensive. Probably won’t go there again.
Clam Chowder Sourdough bread bowl was excellent. Halibut was overcooked, and Cioppino we have had other places had mussels and other easier to open seafood in the dish, but did not require crab to be shelled by the eater (very messy when it has been in broth). The view, however, was fantastic. A couple nights afterwards we grabbed clam chowder, fish & chips and beignets at the dockside eatery below the restaurant and that was enjoyable, and a better value than the sit down restaurant.
We have been to San Francisco several times and hadn’t been to the Franciscan . We’ve been missing out. The view was awesome. While we ate, we watched sea lions play in the water and boats coming in to the pier. Our meal was tasty and the service was good too.
Food was tasty, filet a bit tough but crab was very good as was the crab fondue appetizer. Service was very good but just not feeling the value for the $.
My teenage daughter and I went for dinner together. We had very attentive service from the moment we walked in, our waiter was excelllent and our food was delicious, we had the Crab Fondue and Clam chowder to start and then the mixed crab, prawns and mussels platter, all superb, thank you.
Made a booking and arrived on time but did not get seated until an hour after our booking. There were fireworks later that night so people were staying at their tables longer than expected. So it ended up being quite chaotic and that wasn’t dealt with well. But while we waited we went to he bar and had a couple of drinks. The bar tender was superb. Very friendly and entertaining to watch. When finally seated food was delicious. Despite the shambles with the booking would definitely go again.
Very good crab!
Good serving sIzes
Very poor process for check in. Service sucked, food was cold. Don’t waste your money or time
We ate here while vacationing in San Francisco. Loved the location and atmosphere of the restaurant. It was fun to be able to look out over the bay, watch boats, and even sea lions in the water. Our waiters were very attentive and friendly. The food was good too!!
Always love the Franciscan. However tonight was the first I didn’t like my food the spicy shrimp pasta was sweet not spicy at all. My husband had the garlic noodles with crab very good and my granddaughter had the crab fettuccini good
It's great place to eat and look outside, and meal is always good quality. Usually need to book it during weekend and holiday.
This was recommended to us by a friend. I would not go back or recommend to anyone. You're paying for the location not the quality of food. The mussels were not fresh, the bread was cold and hard, the oysters were sour, the crab was just mediocre. The one thing I actually enjoyed was the cocktails. Spend your money elsewhere!!
We thought the whole experience was just average. It did feel a little like fast food as the service was very rushed.
I went to the Franciscan Crab twice on a recent trip to San Francisco. Both meals were delicious and the ambiance and service were wonderful.
We had a great time, the service was friendly and timely. The food was very good, and the view of the bay, and Alcatraz was excellent.
Food was Ok, was not impressed.
Too noisy, waited too long to get our drinks @ the table (coke and Diet Coke.... not a difficult drunks)
Waiter was nice, apologetic.
I was very dissapointed. Maybe during the day when the views of the bay take over, the food takes a back seat and it does not taste so bad. This place is WAY overated. What a shame!
Been coming here since I was a kid growing up in San Francisco. Always a pleasure returning and enjoying their food and atmosphere.
We were very disappointed with this visit. The crab and steak were not well prepared and did not taste anything near what we remembered from our first visit. We would have been happy to spend as much as we did if the food were of consistent quality but it seems you never know what you will get and it isn’t worth the money sometimes.
The food was excellent but the tables are cramped and there were several mistakes made with our order. Overall I would gladly recommend this to a friend but with some caveats.
Loved the food, the service and the fact that everyone gets an amazing view.
Great food with great view of the bay!
I visited this restaurant with my friend for dinner. I made a reservation for quick entrance. Food was great. I tried dungeness crab and crab chowder. The portion was enough for us. The crab chowder was little bit salty but good for trying. The server was kind. I would like to go one more if I have a chance to come SF!!!
