We ordered a terrific cioppino, a half Dungeness, and shrimp. The garlic butter sauce was scrumptious. To top it off we had the rich chocolate mousse with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. We were so stuffed that sharing dessert was plenty. Great food and great service. Hats off to our server, Yuri, for making our dining experience top notch.
We sat a bit waiting for the server in a non busy atmosphere. Appetizers were out fast. Calamari 4/10 Fondue clumped immediately, no heat under it to keep it flowing. Meals were mediocre. Dungenous crab- Salmon -Crab Alfredo- Cioppino

Beautiful view, excellent menu. The fish that can be prepared five different ways is the best selection on the menu.
The food was disappointing. The braised short ribs looked and tasted awful. In fact, our server gave us credit. The fillet mignon did not look and tasted like fillet mignon. This is the first time that I had fillet mignon partnered with French fries. No veggies, no mash potatoes, no scalloped potatoes that usually go with a good steak.
We ordered 2 sets of Dungenness Crab - one was medium and one was small in size. And we only got half of the set of legs.
Our server was not very accommodating. The bread which we paid for - not in the past - we requested to be heated. He was reluctant to do it but he did for the first 2 orders. For the 3rd order - he returned and said the kitchen is busy.
For a fine dining restaurant, the service was not very pleasing.
It seems that the quality of food and service greatly depreciated. I was here many times before and was satisfied that is why we came back today.
I know that there is covid issues to deal with- but with the prices being charged - we deserved a lot more.
Thank you! And good luck!
This was our first time at the Franciscan Crab Restaurant although we've lived in the area for over 60 years. Fisherman's Wharf is not for the feint of heart, the parking is horrid, things are expensive and it can be very crowded with people who don't know where they're going. That said, we were after crab for Thanksgiving so ended up here; I won't be doing that again. The food, however, was good, the service so-so, but overall expensive for the experience. The restaurant seems to be fraying at the edges and may need a deep cleaning.
Salads were ok, but I kept thinking about how I could have done better at home. My whole crab was left in the oven too long and had scorched bits where the meat wouldn't detach from the shell. Also tasted like it had been rinsed in tap water - no taste of the sea at all. My companion's sea bass was also overcooked - stuck to the pan much like my crab, and it was difficult for him to scrape it free. It was also very thin, which compounded the problem. He had dessert - ice cream in a short cocktail glass - $10!!!
Recording said open at 11:30 AM, had 12:00 Noon reservation. Planned to have a drink at the bar and then be seated at 12:00PM. Got there and were refused until 12:00 no bartender.
Waiter- great service
Good bar drinks
Good Acme Bread rolls
Excellent crab cakes!
Seafood Cioppino average
Crab sandwich average
Could be cleaner!
Windows filthy dirty which diminished the view. front of the restaurant and the elevator were dirty too.
Great proportions, carb was amazing 🥲
There was a rat running around.. we got there at 8 they told us they close soon to order. They closed at 10pm not 8pm. The food was delicious but the place is old and dirty definitely never again.
Our experience was great! Celebrated my mom's 65th bday and they treated her like a Queen! We order the 1/2 crab & double shrimp. It was excellent...the only negative was the shrimp was a lil over cooked. Other than that...the taste was good.
My friend and I had a lovely lunch with good service. There was one issue. We ordered seafood Cioppino and asked if there was any crab in it. Both of the wait staff we asked said "no" and referred to the crab Cioppino menu item. Since we didn't think there was any crab in the seafood Cioppino, we added a half order of crab. We were very surprised when the seafood Cioppino arrived with crab legs on top. The description of the seafood Cioppino should have crab in the list of ingredients and the wait staff should be aware as well.
The food and service were wonderful. Cocktails were made to perfection. Highly recommend! Eating a whole crab takes work but it’s worth it!
For crab and seafood, Franciscan is terrific. You can get the crab prepared your way, steamed or broiled. The sea bass is excellent. The Caesar salad was great and plentiful! The yellowtail appetizer is superb and unique. I s never seen that dish prepared like that. It’s thin fillets of yellowtail placed on a large plate in a spicy, tangy sauce. It’s almost like a lox platter. The spicy tomato sauce pasta was just perfect. Every dish was just great and there is a beautiful view of the bay from every window. It’s a crowded restaurant for good reason. This restaurant has been around since 1957. When you walk inside and up the main stairs, you are greeted by the photographs of thousands of famous people who have eaten there. Yes, it’s a great restaurant and the staff treats you very well! It’s not inexpensive, but you get what you pay for.
always delicious food & staff is always very helpful & friendly.. love this place so much & so does everyone I take there ..
We enjoyed it very much! Food was amazing!!
The food here was AMAZING, the crab & shrimp on the skillet was soooo good. We also ordered the garlic noodles & added crab meat, OMG the flavors were AMAZING. You've got to try this place
The place felt old, cold, and uninviting. Prices were too high!
Felt over priced. I had the crab enchiladas and the sauce overwhelmed the crab. My friend’s crab sandwich looked great and she loved it.
Was good not great, however our waiter was really nice, had a great attitude and was fun and he was hustling. Food was solid but didn't really set it apart from other restaurants in the area. We went at night so not much to see, lots of glare off the windows but I would assume the daytime views would be amazing.
The server put in our appetizers and then 5 minutes later put in the entrees. Our food came out on top of each other and we sent the entrees back and told them to wait until we ate our appetizers. I had the crab melt. It was obvious that they kept the entrees under the warmer until we were ready. The bottom of the bun on my sandwich was completely soggy and mushy since it sat for so long. They could have at least given me a new bun. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant and no need to rush us.
Server made the difference tonight! Restaurant was busy and they were being worked!! He made up for the wait very apologetic, and then after that It was Awesome
I just love this place. The crabs were so fresh and delicious. The service is always exceptional.
Amazing food and service. Will definitely be back 😄
Wow, delicious crab! Started with a shimp appetizer and had the lots of crab (for 2). Only disappointment was having to pay extra for bread (which was served cold) otherwise amazing meal.
Would still go back knowing what to expect
Waiter rushed us badly.
The view was spectacular and the service was great.
I will definitely comeback.
amazing service. amazing food. beautiful windows to see the bay. will always return ☺️
Service was great, but host stand is right in middle of where waiters walk through with trays of hot food., hostess was slow to come to host stand to check people in.
We never miss the chance to visit the Franciscan when coming to San Francisco. The view from the restaurant is as great as the food. The service has never been anything but exceptional. Already looking forward to our next visit
We went on a Thursday for my husband's birthday so there weren't too many people. We sat outside too and my husband loved the experience! There's validated parking but we only saw the sign AFTER we paid for parking and right when we are exiting the parking area. It would be great if you see reminders of that "perk" in the restaurant or you get asked when they give you your bill - easy boost towards a delightful customer experience. Also, we didn't get a free birthday treat like when we went for my mom's birthday but not sure if this is standard so it's okay. All in all, great experience, great restaurant, food and service. Will be back for sure and will recommend to others as well! Thank you, Franciscan Crab Restaurant!
Food was great! Recommend the oysters, clam chowder, crab cakes and the bread!!! Views are amazing. Nice comfortable place for our girls lunch.
I had the Crab Louie, which was wonderful; however, I was dissappointed that the menu was not more extensive.
Completely mediocre—felt like a production line.
We had a tasty pre-flight meal on a Saturday night. This place is geared towards tourists and the primary draw is the crab. Prices are high - $59 for the "regular" Dungeness crab, which does not come with any sides, but you get a nice size, well seasoned, crab for your money. The oysters and shrimp cocktail were very good and the sides were decent. If you are looking to do the Fisherman's Wharf experience, this is a fine option.
Overall, everything was good. The only discrepancy l had is the validation for the parking. The payment machine to verify ur visit is misleading! When u scan ur ticket it states u have to make a payment. Even, if there is a 2 hour free parking. Be aware to have ur waiter to stamp the ticket and validate at both times to avoid frustration!
We had the whole crab. It was really good. Well prepared.
Why did the table bread service change? We received cold bread and chunks of hard butter that looked like it was cut off a stick of butter. Disappointed by this. Everything else was great and the crab was fantastic!!!
Crab feast was an excellent choice!!! Best in San Francisco and a must try for any seafood lover.
