Franciscan Crab Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Yuri is the best waiter we have had in a long, long time. The wait staff is extremely attentive and eager to please. The food was excellent albeit a little on the pricey side. Still not bad for the value we experienced in ambience, service and waterfront views.
Unfortunately the food was very disappointing. The lettuce for the Cesar salad was old with darkened edges. The mussels were dry, not plump, and was drenched in so much butter. Lastly, the crab was also dry and not moist. I paid too much money for low quality seafood.
The hostesses were very rude. Bought a bottle of wine at bar while waiting for our table and we were given someone else’s check, helps to read the check. Then when our table was ready, we were seated in a booth for 2 people and not 4 people. I asked the hostess if they have the number of my party correct and I was told yes 2 and that’s when I corrected and said 4 which the hostess said oh yeah the table is for 4. Our waiter was great, friendly, courteous, checked on us, the hostesses should take lessons from him. The food was good, but pricy but it’s expected for a restaurant on the SF pier. I don’t know if it’s a place I would go back to
I have eaten at a lot of seafood restaurants. This was not a good value at all for what you get. The best thing we had was not even seafood. It was bruschetta. Very very overpriced. $13 drinks. Crab Louis for $30. The calamari tasted strange and the clam chowder was nothing to write home about either, believe me. Very bland. Would not go back. The wait staff was above average, however. So 3 cheers for them. Great tips on overpriced food!
I brought my Mom here after a trip to the city to see Alladin. It was a lovely place, but you're definitely paying for the location/view rather than great food. Everything we ordered - clam chowder, seafood fettucine, and even the lemon torte dessert - was good but nothing special, and expensive for the quality. $10 for a cup of soup and $35 for the fettucine (though it was big enough for two). The bread was good, and my Mom had a mojito that was very good. Also, it was right on the wharf and the view was lovely. The place itself is cool too. I can't say I wouldn't go there again, but there are certainly other places I would try before going back.
This restaurant was one of the few opened on Christmas Day. I made my reservations online for 8:30pm and got there on time and I noted two hostess tending to one lady. My friend and I patiently waited however 10 min went by and more people were approaching this small waiting area, in the way of waiters carrying food, patrons just passing through and a live crab tank. I walked up to the hostesses and tried to get their attention but they were both not paying attention to people lining up to either be placed on a wait list r who had reservations. I finally was able after 15 min get the attention of an African American girl with glasses and told her I had reservations and it’s been 20 mins however she told me she was busy and I had to wait. She continued to just stand there doing nothing. A white lady walked up to her and said she had reservations and unbeknownst to me, the afrian American girl gave a waitress menus and had her seat her crew. Really??? I went back up to her and said I have reservations too and do u know she had to nerve or tell me I needed to wait, didn’t even ask me for how many or what the issue was. I finally had to get aggressive in tone and she finally had someone seat myself and my friend. What kind of establishment is this? Where is the customer service etiquette? If u are the owner r manager Please have your team go through customer service training. This was supposed to be a great and stress free dinner and instead I felt as though my friend and I were invisible. First impressions r ever lasting. I must say the service by the male waiters was EXCELLENT and they r the only reason I gave the ratings I did. Those waiters busted their butts at each table as I observed them give excellent service. Those lazy hostesses should learn a thing r two from them. Better yet, they shouldn’t have anything to do with patrons; I suggest they should be placed as busters
The salad was good, small crab was great but too expensive, needs a vegetable & starch too. I saw few vegetarian options (did I miss something?) so had a salad. Menus is too limited, unless you want to order several main dishes. I remember only 2 full meals offered- nothing for me of course.
The place is just dirty everywhere .. under the table , table ... not being clean properly .
but the Asian lady server we had is just nice and very accommodating . She make sure our area is clean ...but over all we can see the place needs more cleaning ... proper cleaning . We noticed other people that takes the dishes away ... the way they wipe the table is just disgusting . Please practice proper hygiene and proper cleaning of the table area . Yucky !
Good seafood though .. we enjoyed the foods !
The food wasn’t what I expected to be. We got the crab melt, short rib, sea bass, octopus and shrimp/crab skillet. Out of all of that the only thing that wasn’t dry was the shrimp. Good thing they actually give a good amount of shrimp. The dessert however was good. We got a lemon cake which was amazing even though they served us melted ice cream to go with it.
The service was horrible. I understand I came on an extremely hectic day which was Christmas however there wasn’t one good experience with any of the staff. I made a reservation and noticed there was a line so I went to ask and the hostess cut me off right away directing me to get in line. I wait in line for about 10 minutes to check in and when I finally do, everyone arriving gets seated before me after waiting another 10 minutes passed my reservation. I go to ask her and she points to the person seating people and says “oh yeah, they’re waiting there too”. We get seated and wait another 10 minutes just to get served water. The server in our section is continuously walking back and forth serving other people while making eye contact with us but not engaging for our order. Bread is served from someone else who says our server will be over to take our order. 15 minutes pass and we ask someone else to take our order. Our server finally comes over once he sees and then tries to engage us although the order had already been taken. We didn’t see our server for the rest of the night and had to flag down someone else for the bill.
Very unfortunate that on the night that I proposed to my girlfriend, we decided to book a reservation at the Franciscan... we booked a reservation for 8-8:30 for 5 people. (My now fiancé, brother, mother, sister and I), when we arrived there, we had to wait in line with everyone (including people who had not even booked a reservation), and to make it even more disrespectful on such an important night for both; my fiancé and I. We never got a table, they told us that we would have to wait in line to even talk to a buzzer and that we had to wait 30-45 mins to be seated (altough we had already made a reservation?!)... that was one of the most disrespectful things I've ever encountered on such an important night for us. I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone, ever. Have the decency to at least reserve the table for someone who took the time to make a reservation, otherwise just don't allow reservations. Pathetic, unprofessional, disrespectful are the three words I have to use to describe my experience. We left without even eating. So thank you for ruining a once in a lifetime moment.
