About Franciscan Crab Restaurant
"Hands down the best food you'll find on San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf" proclaimed Sunset Magazine. An extensive renovation has revitalized the Franciscan Crab Restaurant, a Fisherman's Wharf institution since 1957. White tiled walls, beautiful marble bar and twenty foot windows overlook the bay and Alcatraz. Terraced dining affords views from every table: hand blown glass shades and chandeliers dazzle, black and white photos of celebrity patrons adorn the stairs and walls.

Franciscan Crab Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I had reserved a table with a good view which really wasn’t taken into consideration since it was a birthday celebration. I was seated by the restroom and it was disappointing. Pasta was really oily and our crab was really small for a whole crab since it was $$$. This was my second time here and it wasn’t like my first experience which was much more inviting.
The Hostess greeted us with a big smile & with professionalism & enthusiasm! Our waiter was so very polite and did an excellent job making sure all of our needs were met! The food was so delicious I had the crab Alfredo and my husband had the skillet with mussels, shrimp and crab. It was so flavorful with butter and garlic! We will definitely be back to dine here again.
Arrived 3 minutes early, the host would t seat us until our designated time even though 3/4 the restaurant was empty. Then ended up seating us 10 minuets late. The waiter was okay but got the food wrong, and the place was really loud. Could barley hear the person across from you. The food was mediocre for the price and wasn’t as good compared to other restaurants around there. All in all won’t go back again.
We got sat really fast and when i order my food it only took a few mintues for the first item it was perfect! The filet Mignon was cooked amazingly for my husband he loved it and my crab melt was perfect!! Even my calamari was extremely tasty perfect seasoning! Very nice waiter and the buser kept the area very clean. We enjoyed our experience extremely to were we want to ce back!
Great spot to take out of town guests- location is on the water in Fisherman's Wharf. Make reservations- although they accept walk ins, Open Table makes it super convenient to ensure a table at your desired time. Their food is consistently good- not fantastic and the best seafood ever- but for the location, price, ambience it is one that can't be beat.
Try the Calamari- it is always cooked to perfection, seasoned well and served with marinara type sauce. Their chowders are delicious- always one of the best on the wharf and in the area. We have had several fish dishes cooked several ways, their crab sandwiches, seafood stew- all above expectations for a place that sits in the middle of a tourist trap.
They offer validated parking in the lot right outside of their restaurant next to Boudin's- always a must to stop in here and buy a loaf (or three) of fresh baked bread- free Parking in this area is worth a trip to the restaurant itself. 3 hours FREE parking is a gem in a city that parking is the most valued commodity.
Yuri is the best waiter we have had in a long, long time. The wait staff is extremely attentive and eager to please. The food was excellent albeit a little on the pricey side. Still not bad for the value we experienced in ambience, service and waterfront views.
Unfortunately the food was very disappointing. The lettuce for the Cesar salad was old with darkened edges. The mussels were dry, not plump, and was drenched in so much butter. Lastly, the crab was also dry and not moist. I paid too much money for low quality seafood.
The hostesses were very rude. Bought a bottle of wine at bar while waiting for our table and we were given someone else’s check, helps to read the check. Then when our table was ready, we were seated in a booth for 2 people and not 4 people. I asked the hostess if they have the number of my party correct and I was told yes 2 and that’s when I corrected and said 4 which the hostess said oh yeah the table is for 4. Our waiter was great, friendly, courteous, checked on us, the hostesses should take lessons from him. The food was good, but pricy but it’s expected for a restaurant on the SF pier. I don’t know if it’s a place I would go back to
I have eaten at a lot of seafood restaurants. This was not a good value at all for what you get. The best thing we had was not even seafood. It was bruschetta. Very very overpriced. $13 drinks. Crab Louis for $30. The calamari tasted strange and the clam chowder was nothing to write home about either, believe me. Very bland. Would not go back. The wait staff was above average, however. So 3 cheers for them. Great tips on overpriced food!
