Franciscan Crab Restaurant
The Franciscan Crab Restaurant is a must-visit every time I'm in San Francisco. It's spacious with huge windows overlooking the Bay and Alcatraz. Almost every table has a water view. My family and I no longer need to look at the menu - we know we want the "Crab Feast", a gigantic cast iron platter of whole roasted Dungeness crab in garlic butter sauce. Lots of sour dough bread to sop up the sauce and some good white wine to finish a delicious lunch!
Crab! Everywhere crab!
Awesome! Food, view, service all wonderful!
Overall good experience but, we were sat right next to the busser station who kept crashing dishes every few minutes. He also hovered over our table making us feel uncomfortable. He refilled waters unnecessarily and spilled a lot on the table during this process. Food is always great and service is good too, just disappointed with my table especially since I booked it days in advance. Can only afford to eat there once in a while so I notice the small things when I go. Will definitely be back but, will request a better area.
Always a great experience at Franciscan! It’s my goto got garlic butter seafood. The butter sauce is unlike any other, just delicious!
I want to start out by saying the the food was absolutely wonderful! My husband’s steak was the best steak at a restaurant we’ve ever had. My crab was very good too! The bus boys (especially Henry) and the food runners were amazing...our service AWFUL (maybe the worst ever)! Our server talked to us maybe 3 times the whole meal and when she did, NOT friendly! The view, even at night was beautiful. Worth the visit for great food if you are patient with poor service! We have not had “good” service during our visit here though, so it may just be a San Fran thing.
I wish they would have cleared tables before getting our dessert. Also, it gets loud in there.
Beautiful historic restaurant. Excellent crab. The quality of food was obvious. Well done.
This is a tourist trap. Food was terrible. High price, low value. There are much better crab places in SF. Ambiance was okay. Service was good.
Would not return, nor recommend.
Beautiful views right on the water. Food was very good but pricey. Great attentive waiter
My mom and I loved everything we ordered and the over-all experience! We will definitely be back!
I came to the Franciscan with my family as an early birthday celebration. I had been once before and it was so good I had to come back. I made a reservation for 6pm but arrived a little early and they sat me right away at a table near a window as I requested. The service was great but I felt bad because we were waiting for our full party to arrive before ordering but he was very patient. We started off with the calamari which was okay and I ordered the seafood ciopinno which is absolutely amazing and I highly recommend it if you’re not sure what to get. We had brought our own cake and candles which they were able to bring out and light up for me and sing happy birthday. The experience was amazing and I can’t wait to go back again I love this restaurant. 10/10 would recommend
The place is on the water & beautiful. Although, it was bit of a weird vibe due being sat in front of all their silverware and supplies which was out in the open. They keep their bread out in the open. I get if it is more convenient but a lot of people are paying good money to come here, it would not hurt for them to serve warm bread. My fiancé & I went during lunch time so it was fairly slow and I felt like the workers were hovering over us asking if we were done every 10minutes so we felt super rushed to clear our table. It is a nice restaurant but I won’t be returning unfortunately unless they decide to change some things.
It’s perfect for what it presents itself to be. If you are looking for fresh local seafood with a great view of the Bay in this neighborhood look no further.
Film premiere dinner
We brought our family here with 2 relatives who are travelling, and the food was good. It's kinda pricey comparatively speaking but it still somehow met our expectations.
We just wanted to experience the restaurant with a view of the bay. And that aspect didn't disappoint.
Our wait staff was fabulous and was great!
The Hostess seated us at a wonderful table for two with a beautiful view of the water. The crab was excellent. The service was nothing short of top-notch (ask for Dolly).
A littlw pricy for the amount of food, but good food and service.
you can't beat the views from every seat in the restaurant. Great service and easy parking if you drive
The crab Louis and the clam chowder was amazing. It equaled to the view we had. I turned 66 and have never been to Alcatraz . When I saw it looking out the window I text everyone I know and told them I’m getting closer. Lol. Thats how good a view we had. Anyway I really enjoyed my self and glad my fiancé took me there. Thank u Faye!!
Definitely enjoyed the food and the experience. The place was not very busy Monday night, and we got seated where the view of the water and Alcatraz was blocked by a post. With all of the empty tables., It would’ve been nice to have a view that wasn’t blocked in a little bit more space for six people. Beyond that though, it was a really great dinner
This is kind of my go to restaurant for a great view, great service and a wonderful array of seafood. It's kind of my special occasion place where I can bring new people and friends for the best on the bay. Tonight was no different, I made my reservation for 4 with OpenTable and I made the request of a table by the window because I wanted to impress my God-Son and his girl friend. They had never been to this special place before, but were thrilled at the end of the dinner. The 4 of us enjoyed, first our server, 8SaulG, perfect timing in the introduction to our table to the dessert at the end of our meal. Saul was there for each of our requests and questions. To start the meal we totally enjoy the Crab Fondue with little hard toast slices. My God-Son's girl friend really enjoyed the Crab sliders, a lot of flavor with vegetable on the side, great choice. My wife jumped into a bowl of clams, there were so many that she had to take the bread and soak up the juices to find the clams at the bottom of the bowl. My God-Son honkered down on a feast of Seafood Cioppino and believe me it was shared with his girlfriend with a delightful smile on both of their faces. And for me, it was my favorite go to dish, Crab Alfredo with a wonderful mix of perfectly cooked pasta and a full layer of crab on the top. Mouth watering to say the least, and I admit that I broke down and asked 8SaulG for a little Parmesan cheese to enhance more flavor. Everyone was filled with delight for the taste and aroma of all the food we had and shared. Great Love and conversation throughout the meal and beyond. Creamy, rich, buttery and chrisp were words among the table. Enjoyment throughout the meal. Then there was dessert! Oh my, for me it was the house-made frozen kustard ice cream. The kids had the Wild Strawberry Italian Cheesecake and my wife debated it all and ended up with the Chocolate Truffle Mousse Cake, which was little too frozen for using a spoon but 8SaulG was right there to add a fork.
my kids 11 and 13 years old loved crab/shrimp. highly recommend others that are local/visitors.
We’re regulars and the only thing we didn’t like was the changes on the menu :(
Amazing place and delicious food!! I can'wait to go back.
I always come eat here when I am in town. Your food can't be missed.
I’m just not into flavored hot crab I like mine Cold & Fresh .. my bad 🤗
Next time I will try to order differently .
Our Waitress was fabulous our bus boy Amazing this is our Grandchildren’s happy place .
Connors 12 th Birthday choice again !
Great menu and a whole lot to shoes from my Hubby loved his fresh crab salad .
Always my go to restaurant, the food is outstanding and the service is exceptionally good every time we visit.
When we arrived at 9:30pm the manager was rude, she shouldn’t be a manager let alone in a customer service type of job. Horrible experience. I will not recommend this place to anyone again.
Our food was absolutely delicious! The crab melt was loaded with fresh crab. This place is expensive. Understandable for the fresh seafood, but a side of basic steamed veggies is $10!! Nice view. Our server, Marie D. was very helpful and attentive.
Good food, but no crab forks available???
We were seated at our table right away then after 20 min of waiting and not even having water yet we left.
Love eating here. Love crap and all the choices of crab they have here. Of course they have other choices, but crab is my favorite.
Drinks are very good. Day view is awesome, when it's clear.
Food arrives fast, hot and delicious!
Looking forward to our next dinner here.
It was good without be outstanding
If it was.a example of the standard of food I would go back
The 2 of us had...
1/2 Crab apiece
Shared 1sm Calamari, 1Garlic noodles ,
1 Crab Fondue, 1sm grilled Shrimp,
1 House Salad w/Crab.
2 interesting Tequila drinks.
All dishes were spot on, better than the Dead Fish, though BOTH have KILLER views.
Great food and excellent service.
A typical tourist seafood restaurant. Very pricy for items on the menu. .
