Francesca's Vicinato Ratings and Reviews
This is usually my favorite neighborhood place to go for my birthday; it has great ambiance, good food choices, and usually great food. But this year it was a huge disappointment. My food was horrible (I didn't complain because I didn't want to ruin the evening or have my friends have to wait for me to get my food, or for me to have to eat alone when I got a replacement) , and even though we had an early reservation (6:00) and there were many open tables when we arrived, we were seated way in the back corner where the servers come out of the kitchen. It was cramped, and crowded and we had to keep moving the chairs to let the servers get through. On a scale of 1-10 on this night, I would give it a 5.
Took 25 minutes to get appetizer, we ended up at the sports bar next door. Blonde older waitress was as rude as can be, when we asked for our check to pay for our drinks she said that we appearantly couldn't see they were busy----ummm, that's no excuse for being rude, and she had 4 open tables---if you can't handle the pace don't work with the public. Francesca's in Bolingbrook treats customers much better.
In the past we have always had a great meal and service until last night. Service was very poor. It took a long time after ordering for our salads and soups to come out and when they did half of the orders were incorrect! No apologies, just an "oh". Dinner also took a long time to come out and when my husband complained to the waitress she just said " it will be out soon". Again, no apology. When the food finally did come out it was barely warm. My son ordered a medium rare steak that came out well done! Waitress rarely came by to see if we needed anything. Very disappointed!
We had lunch to enjoy their Lasagna Day Special which ran Sunday and Monday. Unfortunately, we ate an early lunch on Monday. it was very apparent that the salad and lasagna were left overs from Sunday. The lettuce and cucumbers were browning and the lasagna noodles limp from being reheated. We always have good dinners here, but this was not their best presentation. In January, we totally enjoyed their spaghetti day special but went for dinner when everything was fresh and hot. Lesson learned---go for dinner for any Specials.
I've been a Francesca's fan for some time. The locations in BolingBrook and Frankfort are actually more my favorites. Their atmosphere 's are better with more ambience. Service at Francesca's Vicinato is hit or miss. Ironically, with the waiter/waitress. The ancillary help has always been wonderful. As for the food, it's delicious! Portions usually leave you with plenty to bring home, unless you get one of their daily specials, such as, lasagna for $8.00. That portion is strictly for the moment, no doggy bag there. I would recommend Francesca's Vicinato, however, the other Francesca's are a step above.
Service was excellent! But the food was very salty! No real chefs, just line cooks reading recipes given to them. Lacking the common sense not to add salt to a dish that already has: pancetta and sun-fried tomatoes which are salty enough! It was uneatable. Also because they are given a time for pasta al-dente they figure all pasta is cooked in the same time frame. Angel hair al-dente works great, you cook large tubes in the same time frame and you have a rubber ball. They might as well be cooking tacos.
Had a lovely dinner at Vicinato! We shared the scallops over risotto starter/ delicious! I had pasta with fresh vegetables, my husband pasta with Italian sausage. We also happened to go on half priced bottle of wine night. Service was excellent. Only criticism is how loud it gets.
I was looking for a nice restaurant in the Orland Park area to host a client for dinner, and Francesca's Vicinato was an excellent choice. We had a lot of choices in menu, but we all opted for the $25 4-course selection, and enjoyed each course.
My family also had my mom's 90th birthday party there in February, and my mom was delighted with the service and ambiance.
The Spaghetti al Fagottaro is absolutely delicious. I was hesitant at first to try cold sauce over hot pasta, however, it was good and very fresh tasting. Paired with a chardonnay, the lunch was a most pleasant experience. Service at this Francesca's is always spot on for me and my guest.
