Francesca's Vicinato Ratings and Reviews
Our Family has been going to Francesca’s Vicinato restaurant in Palos Park for years. This was our family’s “Go To” restaurant for years. We had celebrated many special occasions and our experiences there have always been very good. Went to Francesca’s with the immediate family, 5 individuals, last night (November 26th), to celebrate my wife’s birthday, what a huge disappointment.
The restaurant was about half full, we were lead to a table just outside the ladies room and the kitchen entrance. We asked to be reseated and was lead to the bar sitting area, when there were numerous table available in the main dining area. We ordered two 8oz glasses of house Pinot Noir, when we got the check $18 each for an 8oz glass of Pinot. Really, it’s Francesca’s in Palos Park for Pete’s sake! And not the best tasting Pinot at that. I guess our bad should have asked the price. Our family ordered 5 bowls of pasta with the a Wedge salad. My daughter ordered a bowl of pasta with 4 shrimp for the amazing price of $23. The taste of the food was OK not great. Service was OK also. Not sure what has happen with the establishment we knew?
I do not write many reviews, needless to say negative ones , but our experience was just so very sad and disappointing so I am compelled . Time to look for a new “Go To”, I guess!
We've been looking for a good basic Italian restaurant in the southwest suburbs, and had high hopes for Francesca's Vicinato. But the food was very disappointing. My wife's seafood pasta included shrimp that had not been cooked through. The tomato sauce for my pasta was watery, and there was far too much of it. $11 for a drink is a little steep; there are no beers on tap. The service was harried, the dining room was overcrowded, and the noise made it difficult to carry on a conversation.
This is usually my favorite neighborhood place to go for my birthday; it has great ambiance, good food choices, and usually great food. But this year it was a huge disappointment. My food was horrible (I didn't complain because I didn't want to ruin the evening or have my friends have to wait for me to get my food, or for me to have to eat alone when I got a replacement) , and even though we had an early reservation (6:00) and there were many open tables when we arrived, we were seated way in the back corner where the servers come out of the kitchen. It was cramped, and crowded and we had to keep moving the chairs to let the servers get through. On a scale of 1-10 on this night, I would give it a 5.
Took 25 minutes to get appetizer, we ended up at the sports bar next door. Blonde older waitress was as rude as can be, when we asked for our check to pay for our drinks she said that we appearantly couldn't see they were busy----ummm, that's no excuse for being rude, and she had 4 open tables---if you can't handle the pace don't work with the public. Francesca's in Bolingbrook treats customers much better.
In the past we have always had a great meal and service until last night. Service was very poor. It took a long time after ordering for our salads and soups to come out and when they did half of the orders were incorrect! No apologies, just an "oh". Dinner also took a long time to come out and when my husband complained to the waitress she just said " it will be out soon". Again, no apology. When the food finally did come out it was barely warm. My son ordered a medium rare steak that came out well done! Waitress rarely came by to see if we needed anything. Very disappointed!
We had lunch to enjoy their Lasagna Day Special which ran Sunday and Monday. Unfortunately, we ate an early lunch on Monday. it was very apparent that the salad and lasagna were left overs from Sunday. The lettuce and cucumbers were browning and the lasagna noodles limp from being reheated. We always have good dinners here, but this was not their best presentation. In January, we totally enjoyed their spaghetti day special but went for dinner when everything was fresh and hot. Lesson learned---go for dinner for any Specials.
I've been a Francesca's fan for some time. The locations in BolingBrook and Frankfort are actually more my favorites. Their atmosphere 's are better with more ambience. Service at Francesca's Vicinato is hit or miss. Ironically, with the waiter/waitress. The ancillary help has always been wonderful. As for the food, it's delicious! Portions usually leave you with plenty to bring home, unless you get one of their daily specials, such as, lasagna for $8.00. That portion is strictly for the moment, no doggy bag there. I would recommend Francesca's Vicinato, however, the other Francesca's are a step above.
