Francesca's Passaggio Ratings and Reviews
This was our second visit in the last 6 months. We did not have a good experience on our last visit and unfortunately this visit was the same. The service was lacking again and the food was less than average. We sat at our table for a good 10 minutes before being acknowledged, had to ask for bread after 20 minutes before it was brought out with no oil or Parmesan cheese. Additionally, our appetizer (a cold one) took over 20 minutes and we had to remind the waiter several times to bring it. Our food came shortly after the appetizer and was cold. There was no quality check and for most of the evening the waiter was scarce. If it would have been busy, that would have been understandable, but it wasn't. Lastly, we had to flag down the bus boy for our check. We will not return.
Open table reservation requested a table away from a high traffic area . Seated my wife and I just inside a door way between the main dining area and a smaller room. Most of diners in the room we were in had younger children which made it quite loud. Salads arrived too soon after delivery of appetizer. Then waited longer than expected for entrees after salads had been cleared. Spouse ordered the Tilapia special which very thin, over-cooked and dried out. Manager offered to redo which was declined, so he comped the entree. The filet entree which I had was excellent as was the pecan pie dessert. Food server was excellent.
Waitress was not attentive. I had to keep waiving her down for our dining needs. We were really disappointed. It's always a full house and we almost always have great service. Our table was tiny, and loaded with plates. There was no room so it was very uncomfortable. The used plates were not being picked up. Drinks were not refilled. We were asking our food runners for things we needed. When our waitress was at the table, she was great. I just would have appreciated her coming to us, rather than us hunting her down. It ruined the dining experience. Maybe it was just a rough night for her. Not sure.
While normally very good in terms of service and food, service and food quality were a bit off on this date. For instance, I ordered the mushroom ravioli, but they were out of that and offered to substitute "spinach" ravioli. Another guest in our group requested a particular sauce for Gluten Free pasta and the dish was brought with Alfredo (not the requested sauce). However, I'm convinced these are isolated incidents and the restaurant was very busy.
We have been to this restaurant many many times.
Today we Went with our 4 children ages 15yo-21yo. The Waiter had my salad split for what reasons we do not know since It was just me eating it. He Didn't bring extra plate for dinner I was sharing with a daughter. One Daughter's food came incorrectly. Was supposed to have substituted a red sauce instead of the cheese sauce. Other daughter's dish had bad flavor and overcooked pasta. We just ate it because waiter so inattentive we didn't want to deal with exchanging/redoing our order. After they cleared dinner dishes, it took forever to get dessert menus for our kids and they just stopped filling our water until my husband complained. Manager apologized about the water and said dessert was in him although when bill came it was still there until husband asked why. Just horrible service, subpar food and we doubt we will be back given how many other restaurants there are in Naperville.
Francesca's Passaggio is a local place for us so we eat there pretty often. Bonus this Wednesday was half price wine so we got something we probably would not order normally. There food is always spot on. Never had a marginal meal. Very dependable and good service.
I love all the Francesca's restaurants and their sister restaurant Davanti Enoteca. At this Francesca's, the dining area is large with tables covered in white linen tablecloths. There's also a large bar area off to the right when you walk in. Our server Isaac and his helper, I believe Joey, were wonderful staff members. We received outstanding service with a smile with these friendly young gentleman. As usual, I started with the asparagus salad which is crisp cold asparagus along with chopped tomatoes and crumbled blue cheese dressed with olive oil. The salad is always fresh and full of flavor as the blue cheese is high-quality, the tomatoes very ripe and the asparagus bright green and crisp. For my entrée I had one of the fish entrées. I believe it was grouper cooked with artichoke, roasted tomatoes and capers in a brown butter sauce. The fish was so moist and flaky and I really enjoyed the simplicity of the dish with the artichokes, tomatoes and capers. It wasn't a heavy dish at all and full of flavor. I ended the meal with a cappuccino that Isaac made himself, perfect foam and very hot. This restaurant is tucked away in the corner of a strip mall where a lot of store fronts are vacant. I'm so happy to see that the restaurant was full of patrons and still well received in the community. I would highly recommend dining at Francesca's.
The food was the usual high quality Italian that Francesca's is known for. We had pasta and dessert, it was all delivered timely and tasty. My only complaint is that I made a reservation and asked for a booth. We were seated in the far corner of the restaurant next to the exit door. I guess I feel it makes no difference what you ask for on a reservation.
