Francesca's on Chestnut Ratings and Reviews
It wasn’t bad. The food was flavorful and fresh. Our problem was the service. Our waiter wasn’t around a lot and didn’t follow through on bringing us things that we asked for (like bread) or if we did ask it took a decent amount of time to actually receive.
Very limited menu. $19 for 6 pieces of mediocre ravioli?!?! I could frozen ravioli that is just as good for less than $5. Pizza was quitetasty. Service was not good for having only 3 tables eating in the entire restaurant.
Will not go back. There are much better Italian restaurants in Chicago in my opinion
Post theatre dining on a snowy weekend. We arrived early for our reservation and we were seated right away. Friendly service by Carlos for our large group (6+) though he seemed stretched thin as he appeared to be the only server in the late weekend afternoon. Dining was good for the group although I make claim to the best dish of veal ala limone. Hubby had a ravioli that was quite good also. Desserts selected were delicious! A very memorable lemon dessert and a chocolate lovers dream the Torta Lava.
Overall a great experience. The restaurant was in a great location and was very reasonably priced for the locale and the high-quality food.
Portion sizes were very good. They weren’t pretentious like one might expect in the Gold Coast yet they were not obnoxious either as some Italian chains are.
We even received a free birthday dessert for my wife.
My only complaint would be the service. The restaurant was not terribly crowded yet our server was slow. This was unfortunately exacerbated by the fact that when he was around he was very quick to clean around us of any dishes/settings that were either used or unneeded, to the point that we started to feel somewhat pressured and rushed.
Overall it was very good though!
I was there last Saturday night with 2 great friends. We were all from out of town and really looking forward to a great meal. I was very disappointed. Two of us ordered Risotto appetizer. It was grainy, salty and not prepared well. It had to be exchanged for other dishes. One of us exchanged for the calamari appetizer; the other got the rigatoni with Italian sausage. Neither dish was satisfactory. The rigatoni noodles were tough and not thoroughly cooked. The calamari was also not prepared well. I ate the rigatoni because I was very hungry from walking around all day. The service was spotty.
Overall this was a very unsatisfactory experience. I visit Chicago a lot and will not likely return to this restaurant.
We have been to this restaurant several times on our visits from out-of-town. We like the menu as well as the ambience for a relaxing, comfortable dining experience. The wait staff was competent and friendly. We have no complaints except for one thing: the wine we chose was not available so we were offered the next best bottle for $10 more; we thought we should have been offered it for the same price as our original order.
My husband and I love this restaurant. It can be both romantic and family friendly. This time we were celebrating my husband’s birthday, and everything was, as usual, top notch. We had our wedding here in September, and that was perfect too. The food and service are always excellent. It’s very special to us.
Treated my daughters to a play at Broadway Playhouse and was looking for something the family would enjoy. With one picky eater in the group this had something for everyone. For New Years Eve it wasn’t crowded and the service was friendly and helpful. The food was wonderful with one comment from my oldest daughter that it was the best alfredo sauce she has ever had; which is saying a lot from the one who is quite selective on her food.
We ordered the wedge salad and the dressing was of the Cosco variety. The bread was stale and no taste We both ordered the pasta which was supposedly homemade with pieces of lobster. It barely had 2 ounces of lobster. Best thing I could say was the service was acceptable. Top tables reviews had me convinced I would get a good meal and honestly Olive Garden would've been better
Food was just very very average. Had a lobster pasta dish which might've been better labeled pasta dish. Almost zero meat in it. Fiancee had the sea bass which was decent but not memorable in any way. Waitress just going through the motions at best. Don't like leaving blah reviews I was just a bit disappointed overall. It was Christmas Eve so might have caught them on off night.
My daughter works at a near by hospital. Our Christmas Eve tradition the last few years was to meet her at Francesca’s. We have enjoyed the food in the past. My daughter enjoys this restaurant because of the gluten free pasta. Unfortunately, they did not have any on Christmas Eve. Of course after a long day at work, she was upset. They offered her fish with no sides. We called the manager over and he wasn’t sympathetic. We asked for risotto. My daughter said it didn’t have much flavor. After the poor response, we have decided to find different restaurant for next Christmas Eve
Great service from entire staff. Everyone was extremely friendly patient and kind with our large diverse group. Arrived late evening due to flight schedules, they allowed us the time to linger. Relax and visit. We never felt rushed. One person left their phone behind, they promptly called and stayed after close to allow for us to come back to retrieve it. Would highly recommend.
Great Italian food located in the heart of all the Mag Mile/Water Tower fun. We went on a Saturday night and it was packed full with people - I think we only managed to get a last minute reservation because someone cancelled, and I'm so glad they did! The gnocchi and Bolognese were to die for!
Seated immediately despite arriving ten minutes early, so off to a good start. Very nice waiter who took care of us despite a very busy night. Food was excellent and ambiance was wonderful. As an added bonus, they are the first restaurant to stock a wine from an Italian winery we visited last year.
