Francesca's on Chestnut Ratings and Reviews
Great food, wonderful kids menu, lively atmosphere, and quick service. We were in and out in approximately an hour, which was amazing considering we were there with two slow eating children. The only very minor complaint was that server follow up on topping off drinks and ordering dessert was a bit slow compared to what we were accustomed to. Thanks largely to the online reservation system, it was only a 2-3 min wait until we were seated. We would dine there again!
Though the restaurant was crowded and the tables were small and very close together and it was pretty loud, the food, service, wine were great as always, this remains one of our favorite restaurants, we have been to several of the restaurants in the chain, all great
We enjoyed our meal. Our server, Jesse, was very polite gave us enough time to look over the menu without hanging over our shoulder or checking on us too frequently. I made the reservation through Open Table and added a note that it was out 16th Anniversary. Jesse congratulated us on 16 years together and the dessert was on the house. It was a lovely evening and the food was delicious!
I was celebrating my 1st wedding anniverary. Per my reservation i stated that this my 1st wedding anniversary with my wife. The whole time we were there nobody acknowledged our anniversary. I know all places are different , but every restaurant that I've been to has acknowledged any special occasion that i was celebrating. The food was great and service was ok. They really pack you in and the space is really cramped. I wouldn't go back to this location.
Neighborhood regular - new menu didn’t seem that interesting so I ordered a salad (excellent) and pizza (couldn’t eat it). Pizza dough was underdone and chewy and the tomato sauce was lumpy and literally tasted like it was paste out of a can. Our server (excellent) was very apologetic and accommodating and removed the pizza from the bill. Everyone else in our group was pleased with their dinner. But my pizza, like it was store bought and warmed up on my dorm room radiator.
Loved our evening at Francesca's - we dined after a play at the Lookinglass Theatre - perfect location and distance. There were 6 of us and we all enjoyed our entree's and the waiter was extremely helpful in providing advice and recommendations. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. The desserts were out of this world - the Tiramisu was the best I have ever had (and I don't like it usually). Everything was perfect!
Francesca's was excellent. We were seated and immediately given bread which was excellent. My daughter ordered a Moscow Mule and Inhad a raspberry martinit. Both were excellent. We started with the Calamari which was very good but nothing outstanding. My husband had the pizza which he said was one of the best he has ever had. It was loaded with prosciutto and he felt it was a great value. My daughter loved her rigatoni. I had the special which was pasta with lobster and lagostinos. Pasta and lobster were excellent however I was disappointed in the lagostinos as they were covered in sauce and could not be broken apart to get anything out of the shell - if that was even possible. It was a little noisy but not bad. Excellent service. We will definitely be going back.
Dear Real Management,
We have been goIng to Francesca’s for years. You cater all our parties and the food is amazing. The staff except for your fill in RM Chris, have always been top notch. When Alex left to take a position at your restaurant in Rockford why didn’t you promote Linda or Joe? Instead You bring in this regional guy named Chris who is a complete tool. He is absolutely the worst. Doesn’t know his clientele and couldnt care less to know any of us. Chris is More worried about trying to hit on the younger women guests and walking around like he owns the place. His ego is way too big for that restaurant and the staff can’t stand him. FRANCESCAS DO SOMETHING BEFORE YOU LOSE ALL YOUR LOCALS!!
Tanya and Duncan (your Friday night steady diners).
Solid Francesca dining! Perfect corner table for our group. Very attentive service. However, our server interrupted our conversation 3 times. There's a nice way for a server to approach a table and wait for the guests to pause their conversation but our server did not do that. I know a server is busy but rudely approaching and interrupting guests is not "hospitality" friendly.
Date night without our kids, great service and romantic atmosphere, the Chef and servers were very friendly and attentive and a pleasure to have stopping by our table for Black Truffles. Food very tasty and dessert must have : the Chocolate / Pistachio Profiteroles!!
What a treat in Chicago! Great job guys! from a retired corporate Food Service Director / Exc. Chef. Merci et a bientot! PP
We went for their $12 pasta day, so the food was definitely worth it. We would recommend the scallop pasta, linguine alla assunta, even for the regular price. Was not impressed with fettucine primavera. Wish they offered fresh parmesan on top. Otherwise great service, good wine.
We went to Francescas on Chestnut for our 2nd Anniversary. The service and atmosphere were perfect. They also allowed us to move downstairs after 5 to be more alone and it was just us for quite a while. The food and wine were great as well. Really enjoyed our time there. We would definitely recommend this for a date night.
I have to remark that despite the reservation being for 9 people, we were given a round table of eight seats where we had to settle. I understand that the restaurant was full on the eve of Marathon, but next to it was a table with 7 people that could hold 10 people. This group arrived at the same time as us, and since we had booked it was a matter of common sense. We appreciate the courtesy of a complimentary entry for the delay at the table.
On Saturday night, my family dined at Francesca's on Chestnut and had an excellent experience. My sister chose Francesca's as her pre-Marathon meal; with her Gluten-free diet, Francesca's Gluten Free menu was perfect for her protein & carb-loading needs. My Dad ordered his regular: sausage Rigatoni, and he was very pleased. My Mom chose the Butternut Squash Tortellini and had only fabulous things to say. For my Vegan self, I opted for the Special Salad (avocado, tomatoes, olive oil) and vegetables. Everything was delicious.
Francesca's on Chestnut has a classically elegant ambiance, and located right in the heart of the Gold Coast, this is truly a Chicago Italian gem.
A rare misstep for this mostly consistent restaurant. It won't keep me from coming back but the service was average at best. The waiter and support staff were courteous and engaging while at the table but those interactions were sparse because they were both clearly spread thin as they had far too many tables and customers to attend to on this evening. The food was great as always.
