Francesca's Intimo Ratings and Reviews
We have had many great experiences at Francesca's Intimo in Lake Forest, but a recent disappointing evening (that really can happen anywhere) earned them far more than the five star maximum we are allowed to give. How can I give five stars when a visit was disappointing? Well, the Assistant General Manager, Chris E., actually called us at home later that evening to apologize and invited us back with an over-the-top generous offer of a fully comped meal. Wow! It was so not necessary, but very much appreciated. Chris exemplified the fine service we have experienced from the wait staff...always polite, agreeable, and solicitous without being intrusive. And the food...I have always loved everything I have ordered. Beginning with the warm, crusty bread served to all tables, the food is delicious. My favorite salad is asparagus/bleu cheese with plenty of finely chopped tomatoes. There are too many tasty entrees to describe, but if you like salmon, they always do a great job. Francesca's is intimate and pretty with a very cozy ambience. I highly recommend, but don't expect a free meal as they nearly always get it just right!
My husband and I showed up at the time of our reservation and waited for 3 staff members to stop talking to greet us. We checked in and were shown to a table in the upstairs portion, to the left, next to one of the order entry screens. The girl who led us to the table basically threw the menus down and walked away oblivious to the fact that the menus slid off the table onto the floor. We definitely did not feel welcomed! I sat with my back to the computer hoping I wasn't obstructing the screen for the waiter who seemed overwhelmed in this cramped section. We ordered calamari which comes with a tomato sauce, however, my husband - who cannot eat garlic - is disappointed that Francesca's cannot offer a basic tomato sauce without garlic (other Italian restaurants can and do) or an alternative sauce. Regardless, the calamari was enjoyed. About one hour later our dinner entrees arrived... my husband had the Filetto di Manzo con Cipolle Fritte which was supposed to come with mashed potatoes but didn't because garlic was in the potatoes (the menu should be updated to say garlic mashed potatoes, not mashed potatoes) and I had the Barramundi Pagliacci which was good but small and had a little too much sauce for my liking.
Throughout the night, we were not checked on and our drinks, water, and bread were not refilled. We asked three different staff members for refills on water and drinks.
Although the food was good, the service was lacking, the atmosphere was chaotic and overwhelming, and the wait time for our entrees was unacceptable.
My wife and I went to dinner Friday, 12/1, we had reservations. We were seated right away and the waiter was on the spot. The food was authentic Italian and very good. After getting our meal we knew we were not going to finish. So lunch for the next day!
The service was very attentive, we never felt that we were forgotten. The place is a little cozy, so if don't mind sitting close to someone. One small issue, the folks who brought the food out seemed a bit confused, our food was one table off. However, they realized right away and made the correction.
Try the coconut cake, fantastic!
Always a great meal. My spouse and I had two different chicken dishes and in both cases the chicken was tender, moist, and incredibly flavorful. Service was attentive and thoughtful. This is a crowded space, but if you like an energetic dinner then you won't be disappointed.
Rey and I went to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and were not disappointed at all. The food was great, so was the ambiance and the privacy when we desired. The maitre'd was quite amiable, engaging and fun, yet he and we had a wonderful evening.
Rey and I gave proper thanks for Thanksgiving but we also had a very memorable 20th anniversary dinner. I'd been to Francesca's several times with friends for lunch, so we came based on-MY recommendation!
Wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Hostess kindly took our coats, and we were seated right away at reservation time. Chicken and pasta dishes were good.
We live in Chicago and were meeting friends from Wisconsin. Lake Forest turned out to be a good meeting spot, and we were allowed to visit as long as we wanted without feeling rushed.
I love this place it has a great location, great food and normally amazing service, I am spoiled by the service I always receive. This last visit the waiter we had wasn't as attentive as we normally see, it wasn't bad and probably great from many restaurant standards but just less then the normal amazing. No worries, I will be back because I love this place.
