About Francesca's Bryn Mawr
Francesca’s Bryn Mawr became the 8th restaurant added The Francesca's Restaurant Group in 1999. Located in the old Bryn Mawr Apartment Hotel, Francesca's Bryn Mawr brings a contemporary, casually sophisticated trattoria ambiance, good, rustic cooking, friendly service and fair prices to the Edgewater neighborhood. The menu features the zesty earthy cuisine of Rome and the surrounding areas of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio.

Francesca's Bryn Mawr Ratings and Reviews
I wish I could leave a better review. This place has been neighborhood favorite for years, but I will have to give a lot of thought before I go there any time soon. Our reservation was for 1130, and we stood in the vestibule for several minutes before the bar back/busboy saw us and unlocked the door. We waited in the bar because there was no one at the hist station. We finally had to alert our server (?) that we were there for our reservation. The place got busy very quickly. We were seated on the north end of the restaurant in a booth, all of which were too filled, along with a party of 14 at a table. I ordered a cocktail, and my friend ordered a glass of wine, which he received quickly. Not so for my cocktail. The manager/bartender/host was clearly overwhelmed. Good thing e were not in a hurry. When we did decide to order, the for came fairly quickly. I ordered a linguine dish with spicy tomato sauce, shrimp, sea scallops, and Manilla clams. If this dish were on "Chopped", the chef would have been. My scallops were not properly cleaned, and one of the manilla clams was unopened. One was broken, and the shell was all over the place. And, why in the world would you serve a shrimp with the tail shell intact in a dish like this. The desert was good.
Met friends at Francesca’s. Have been going to all the Francesca‘s for years. Wasn’t crowded when we got there service was slow. Salmon was OK a little too much going on. Other than location and convenience to the friends we were meeting I would not go out of my way to return.
As my ratings indicate, overall, Francesca's is a great place to dine.
The ONLY reason I downgraded the ambiance was because of the music that was played.
Contemporary/rock style music does not suit this environment AT ALL.
Some nice Italian music , opera, or even jazz classics would be a better choice.
Please, Please, get some expert advice on the music!!
Waiter was not very attentive too busy with other tables! Priority given to 3 and 4 top tables. No time for table of 2 sadly ! I was amazed someone from restaurant remembered request of birthdays as noted on res. Sadly was not seated in booth even though others were open !!
Another lovely dining experience. I ordered a dish similar to what I had tried before elsewhere, but alas, it wasn't to my liking - nothing wrong with it - just didn't suit me - I didn't complain - not their fault - but they opted to replace it for me at no additional charge. I thought that was exceptionally lovely of them. It is one of my "go-to" places - not in my neighborhood but in one I do frequent (if closer to my home I'd be there even more often!)
Service is always delightful. And they do a dining discount deal with Redtwist Theatre which I attend regularly - to add value to the experience.
The Monday night fixed-priced offer is excellent - appetizer, entree, and dessert - $25 . We had an excellent meal and outstanding service by Terry. He gave us time to study the menu and did a great job of explaining the menu and special. This place has always been reliable.
This is location is one of our top two favorites in the chain (interestingly, we've found a VERY big difference in both quality & management/attitude across all their locations; hint: avoid the one on Chestnut/Streeterville!) Very welcoming, attentive and the food is always delicious. Usually come for a dinner but brunch was also great. Happy to accommodate special food requests. Yummy Italian!
We make it a habit to have our group board meetings at Francesca's Bryn Mawr. Food and service are excellent. I love the ambience, intimate tables, some booths and small tables along the windows when I'm alone. They often have special events and days when certain things are available. It's a favorite place to dine.
Francesca's is a great neighborhood Italian place. It's not a "red sauce" heavy cheese baked pasta and pizza place, although there are some nice pizzas available (as well as make your own). The pasta portions are very generous and the carpaccio is served with many garnishes that complement without overwhelming the beef. Good cocktail, beer and wine selections and there are daily specials and happy hour price specials as well. Very consistent food, consistently good/nice/friendly/helpful service. Recommended for small, medium and maybe large (over 16 people?) groups.
I was having dinner with a friend I haven't seen for a while. Our waiter, Matt, was attentive without being intrusive. The food was delicious, including a full gluten-free menu for my friend. We ended up spending two hours over dinner and dessert and it was satisfying on every level.
