The food was excellent and the service was great. Our waiter was wonderful, knew the food and made good recommendations. I had the rack of lamb chops - excellent!!!!! My husband had the crab cakes which were also excellent. The bus staff also wonderful and friendly. Very nice experience.

Our party was attended to promptly, warmly, and delightfully, seated at the windows that overlook press organizations from all over the world. The server helped in our selection and we all chose that evening’s fish selection — served whole, flaky and easily falling away from the bone. Very pleased, we all noted we’d return to sample other dishes but would be tempted to repeat our order. We enjoyed our respective beverages (mine, perfect French press coffee, others, wine), passing on dessert as we’d talked late into the evening. Special thanks to our server for his excellent timing, allowing us both a lovely dinner and great conversation. (Thanks, also, to Francisco for charging my phone!) DO take advantage of The Fourth Estate’s stress-free off-street location and take time to browse the 13th floor for its remarkable journalism and American history, adding great perspective.

The meals we had were fantastic. My mother had the chicken breast and she Now rates it as the best meal she ever had in Washington. I don't have as clear rating system, but the scallops I had clearly rank in the top 5 meals I can remember having in DC. We had dinner here after seeing the movie The Post. It was so impressive to see all the Pulitzer Prize winning photos, photos of journalists and illuminaries.
We sat under a photo of John Kerry helping to celebrate the 100th anniversary of The NPC; It was a fitting table because I volunteered on John's first political campaign when he ran for Congress in 1972. The National Press Club is a treasure and the Fourth Estate restaurant is an excellent place to dine. Be sure to set aside time to take in the history while before or after your meal.

The food is good, if not exciting, and this is one of the few downtown DC restaurants that can be described as quiet. Great for conversation! The atmosphere is nice and the waiters helpful. If you're looking for high-calorie comfort food, try the lobster melted cheese sandwich. The service, however, can only be described as relaxed - so it's not a good choice if one is on a tight schedule.

The restaurant is located out of main site so somewhat difficult to find for first-time diners. The wait staff is as good as they get, the food was excessive. We don't care to see so much left behind to go in the garbage (we were on the way to a show, so couldn't take it with us). The food was very good, and the mimosa was perfect!

Always a pleasure. Menu is imaginative, service excellent, and there's no place better for conversation. I worry that it is too underused and cannot understand why.

We had a coupon for the Fourth Estate. We were there for lunch. It was for 2 main courses and 2 desserts. My wife had chicken stuffed with artichokes and I had lamb chops. The food was outstanding and the portions were generous. The service was also outstanding. Even without a coupon, the prices were not overly expensive. Each main course was in the middle $20 range. The restaurant was not filled. Maybe it was the weather, but it is a nice place to have a quiet meal and be able to hear the people that you are with. I would recommend the Fourth Estate for lunch.

Everyone was extremely courteous, including the host, our waiter and the chef, who came out to make certain that our meal was satisfactory. My wife had scallops that were to die for. I ordered the rack of lamb, which was extremely tender and flavorful. The meal was an exceptional value, especially considering the downtown setting. One block from the National Theatre, its location is perfect for a pre-show dinner. We look forward to returning soon.

This was a perfect evening. Four friends sharing a night on the town at one of the most impressive locales in Washington, DC.- the National Press Club. The food was excellent, the chef has real talent! The appetizers were ample and savory and the the sea bass, scallop and lamb chop entrees perfectly prepared and presented. The house wines are not too expensive and went well with the meal. The wait staff is very professional and oversee the timing of your meal so you don’t feel rushed or harassed. Absolutely nothing went wrong and we plan to do it again, soon!

Very friendly and attentive staff, from the maitre d' to the wait staff, took care of all our needs. They worked as a community to ensure we had a positive experience, so we never had to rely on just one waiter. The selections were creative, unique, and very tasty. The menu is changed with the seasons, so I am always pleasantly surprised every time. The red snapper was particularly great this winter. Parking can be expensive in this part of town, but they will validate for the PMI garage at 14th and G Street. I will definitely return.

This place is a bit of a hidden gem, in that you could easily not know there was a restaurant in this building. The atmosphere is nice, though considering it is on the 13th floor of the National Press Club, it is unfortunate that it does not overlook the street. Instead there are no windows, except for the ones that open into a multiple floor opening in the center of the building. The service was helpful and polite. Because there were not many occupied tables when we were there, the service was a little faster than desired, though I never got the impression they were trying to hurry us. Though the menu is not large, there is a good variety to choose from. Be sure to take time before or after your meal to look at the large number of photographs of celebrities and politicians that have visited the National Press Club. Though there was ample seating on the night we were there, I would suggest always making reservations just to be safe.

Hidden gem. Seated us right away at a perfect round table for 7 in our own little alcove. The servers were very attentive and the food was excellent. No sense of rush even though we were last table. We were staying at JW Marriott so the location was perfect. Highly recommend.

First time at this restaurant. Great find. Arrived early and immediately seated ~ 5:30 on a Saturday evening; full by the time we finished. Very tasty and reasonably priced dinner. National Press Club photos and memorabilia an interesting plus in the area adjacent to the restaurant.

First time for us at this restaurant. Great servers, good food but we had a hard time locating it. It's on the 13th floor but when we arrived it was very quiet and there were no signs directing us to the restaurant. Please put up some directional signs! We almost left. We ate here before our theatre date.

The menu was small but I could have picked any dish at random and been happy with my choice. I ended up having the lamb chops with crispy green beans and potatoes with a mild horse radish sauce. Everything was delicious. We ran out of time for dessert before our play. The service staff was very attentive to our every need. The place was very quiet mostly due to the fact that there was only one other couple there on a Thursday night.

We’ve lived in the DC area for a long time and never been. Our party of six arrived early for our reservation - before the restaurant opened. The Manager opened the doors and invited us to sit at a large round table, served us drinks and let us enjoy a relaxed and delicious dinner. We had a delicious and relaxed dinner!

I've lived in DC for 40 years but this was my first time there. I've missed so much! The food is excellent and the portions are large. They easily handled my allergies and still offered me a large selection from the menu. The ambiance is quiet--great for conversation, elegant but not fussy. The chef is amazing--my bet is she will introduce herself to you and handle any of your requests. It's a classic and so accessible (and delightful)!

The Fourth Estate is a hidden DC treasure for those who can appreciate it. Tucked away on the 13th floor, it is the restaurant of the historic and prestigious National Press Club and is open to the public. Food was fabulous and far more reasonably priced than we expected. His four sea scallops were huge and prepared perfectly--sweet and tender but not chewy. My two crab cakes were nearly all crab with little filler. The crab cakes were normal size and about the same size as two scallops put together. The husband also ordered the tomato-based seafood chowder and said it was tasty, fresh and delicious. We ended the meal with a chocolate espresso dessert that was divine. A bottle of the house Cabernet was quite good. Not one bad thing to say about service. The National Press Club itself is steeped in history and the decor of the 13th floor reflects that. No, you won't find modern string lights hanging from the ceiling or sleek booths. Instead, think Mad Men office with "celebrity" (ie, politicians, newsmakers) photographs hanging on the walls (like Sardis or Carnegie Deli in New York City.) It's like dining in a museum. A little background music (soft jazz or Frank Sinatra to capitalize on the history?) would be nice to break up the silence and distract from other diners' conversations. Could use padded chairs. Wish they spread diners out a bit. It seemed like each new party was seated in a row, next to the one who arrived just prior. One side of the room was filled, the other, practically empty. When able, leave some space between seating. Lower the lights. It was awfully bright in there, but, admittedly, this is a personal preference. If you are looking for flash or an energized atmosphere, don't come. But if you want great food at a fair price in a refined, classy environment, check it out!
