Had a dinner for two late on a weeknight. Interesting location, quiet dining room, (the way I like it) and the service was just the right amount of attentive. But the vegetarian main dish was overcooked, and the house cabernet lacked any body. 4-stars overall.
We always come here for dinner before the theater. It’s definitely a hidden gem. Food and service is excellent and always a pleasant evening. The staff and chef are outstanding and we will always return. Thank you again for a great dinner and drinks. Keep up the great work.
Fabulous dinner! Set in a very cool venue in the Press bldg with pics of Presidents, movie stars and other political figures.
Everything was so amazing. I am picky when it comes to crab cakes and they were excellent! 2 generous backfin cakes with little filler. They were served with coleslaw that had slivers of mango and melon - an interesting and delicious twist, and string beans with cherry tomatoes with a spice that was excellent. The steak was cooked to perfection with asparagus and potatoes with cheddar. We also had an order of old bay fries - sooo good! One of the best dinners we have had!! The chef came out to check on us. Can't wait to go back!!
Restaurant is in out-of-the-way location on 13th floor of National Press Club, so is not busy for dinner, but I really thought the food was solid and it was nice to eat somewhere quiet. They often have vouchers available for discounted meals, which would be the way to go. Would definitely come again. Also they have validated parking, so it might be possible to park here and see a show at Warner or National (but verify before you try).
Food was traditional but solid and tasty and presented nicely.
The menu is limited. My husband ordered the scallops and it was good, not outstanding. My steak was tough and grisly, green beans were bland. There are much better places nearby with much better food.
We were not aware that the restaurant was open to the public but are delighted that we found out. We are planning to return again for lunch and dinner. It was excellent!
I have been to this restaurant many times and it usually is superb. Not the case this time. Shrimp appetizer was excellent, but crab cake was overcooked and dry and there was little coleslaw which did not taste fresh.
Service was excellent as always.
Great food and courteous service.
Wonderful in every way; delicious appetizers; grilled Cesar salad and outstanding crab cakes-desserts are yummy
Always the perfect meal from the Host to the meal to the waiter.
Food was lukewarm, undesirable disco music playing. Soft jazz music or cafe music would be nice to set the ambiance. Bloody Mary’s are good. Staff is always friendly and customer service oriented.
The staff was awesome. A server, not ours but someone whom had a ton of knowledge, showed us around.
Wonderful crab cakes but steak was not tender.
Great food. Great service. We were made greeted promptly upon arrival. The staff was pleasant and very helpful. Food tastes great.
The entrees were very good. The setting was not. I would only go if you want to check out the Press Club and support their work, which we did and do. Otherwise not worth it.
The service is always impeccable. The food is always delicious. We keep coming back over and over again.
Best restaurant I have ever been to. Great food, great atmosphere.
The best ever. Thanks to the great chef and staff.
Great food and wines as usual. Love the ambiance and photos on display
What a find! Quiet, refined atmosphere with outstanding food and excellent service! We had a TravelZoo voucher which offered great value and enticed us to try this restaurant. Our meal was exceptional and we plan to go back! I had a crab cake platter that included two crab cakes with lots of crabmeat chunks plus a delicious melon slaw and mixed vegetable side.
As always, the food at Fourth Estate was fabulous - the avocado and smoked salmon toast was great, the crab cakes were spectacular, and the fish was superb. The raspberry and chocolate mousse dessert was wonderful - though it is advertised as accompanied by a raspberry coulis, but came with fresh blackberries instead. I have previously given 5 stars across the board, but this time the service from our waiter (different to our previous visits) was poor by comparison. He forgot to bring us bread, and when he did, it was not the excellent wholemeal fine grain bread I remembered, but quickly heated (and dried out) baguette slices - all crunch and no density or flavour). After the great service previously, this was disappointing. However, I definitely recommend the food and the restaurant overall.
We really enjoyed our experience today at The Fourth Estate Restaurant. It is very clean and intimate. The photos bring back memories of the who's who in the media and politics and the various events applicable to each. The food was phenomenal and our waiter was very friendly and attentive.
Have been 4-5 times. Food is excellent and so is the wait staff. Highly recommend people come and check out this well hidden gem. Great if you are going to the National or Warner theater.
Food was very good and set was exceptional.
We have eaten lunch and dinner there several times over the past 3 years and the food and service were top drawer as usual. The wait staff is very affable and attentive and the value for the food was great. I don't understand why there weren't more patrons for lunch and dinners are usually more crowded necessitating a reservation. We have a future date there for dinner and we don't even live in DC. We live about 40 miles outside of Washington!
Absolutely one of the best restaurants in DC! The Chef is nice & her food is delicious.
It's a very reserved environment. Elegant and quite. The food and service are great. There's a lot of historical media and publication memorabilia to pique your interest.
Delicious food, great service & nice location
Our waiter from Sierra Leone was fabulous as well as the whole staff. So much to see in the Restaurant as well. The food is always top notch. It’s never been crowded when we’ve eaten there and the6 always make you feel extra special. This is my favorite high end restaurant in the DC Metro area.
Great food and convenient location for Capitol Steps performances. Terrific seafood dishes.
A mostly quiet place for an early lunch and conversation. Crab cake plater was delicious. Good fresh whole wheat bread. Pear crisp was okay, but not special.
Food was great, service was great, an overall wonderful experience. Also, we were impressed that there were several vegetarian/vegan entrees for one of the vegetarians in our party.
This restaurant is truly a hidden gem. It has so much history in it. If you are at all interested in journalism it’s a must see. The meals are wonderful and the staff is very nice.
This was my first time dining at Fourth Estate and it definitely won't be my last. I went for lunch with colleagues and we were all very pleased with both the food and the impeccable service. A hidden gem!
Food was excellent and service polite and fast. I will definitely go back.
Took advantage of a special offer through TravelZoo. It used to be a great value. Now it has been reduced to a very good value. They reduced the wine from a bottle per couple to two glasses per couple and raised the price of the voucher by $10. Still, it's worth the trip. The menu has a good selection of appetizers and entrees, as well as desserts. The house wine, which comes with the deal, is respectable.
Our dinner for 4 was excellent in all respects. The crab cakes were particularly tasty. We enjoy the restaurant and have been a regular guest over the years.
the new menu featured a rockfish dish that was very very good.
This was my second time here and the food and atmosphere were both amazing!
Excellent. Check out the vast photo galleries.
