Excellent evening at the Fourth Estate. It was a quiet Thursday evening and the staff had the tables separated nicely. The food service was prompt and delicious. We were attended to perfectly, not too overbearing or harassing nor absent either. The Filet was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and the Chimichurri sauce was a nice touch to a classic favorite. An excellent meal that was priced appropriately. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal, and the atmosphere was extremely conducive to conversation.
Wonderful food! Moreover, one of those rare restaurants where the noise level was very, very, very low (may have checked the wrong box as I was checking the noise level as low decidbals (to be interpreted as a TOP rating.
We dined for lunch on a Saturday, which may be not the ideal time. Very quiet and sterile ambience. Service was excellent. Food hit and miss. The chicken waffles were perfect....crispy tender chicken, great tasting waffles. The Vegan saffron rice/quinoa had not a speck of detectable saffron, not even the color. The grain component was completely flavorless. Beets and sweet potatos were hardly a garnish and the poached eggs overdone. Probably much better dishes to choose, based on the quality of the chicken.
Fun low key night
I was treating a Church member for her 80th Birthday. The atmosphere, service and food was GREAT and my guest TRULY enjoyed herself.
I must share with you, that there is not another Restaurant that can compare to the Excellent Level of Service received here. This is my fourth visit and each time I was treating a family member or friend . I've never been disappointed and it appears that the Service and Food gets Better each visit.
Rosetta Daniels :-)
Great service. Comfortable atmosphere. Very good food.
Great service. Wonderful food selection. We used a travelzoo voucher that included wine. Neither of us drink, so they were very generous with letting us substitute food to replace the wine we wouldn't be drinking.
This is a hidden gem on the 13th floor. We had the veal chop (huge) and rockfish, and both were excellent. The staff are always friendly and helpful. This is a great spot in DC that is always quiet and cozy.
Every meal I have had at Fourth Estate has been great and the service is very good. I see the same wait staff, which means staff is happy.
This was a Christmas gift certificate and we had a wonderful time. Food and service were excellent. Such a thoughtful gift. Worth traveling to the big city for this event.
Nice place really good porterhouse
I wasn't sure how to rate the noise level. I went with far right hoping that meant outstanding. It was a truly delightful evening as everything was perfect including the lack of noise!!
The restaurant is a bit hard to find. It's in the building on the 13th floor. Once there, you will receive great food and service. However, the place is ultra conservative.
Elberto was an excellent host and the crab cakes were delicious.
Wonderful experience and the food was outstanding!
Nice quiet, relaxed place with great food. TWO vegetarian entrees to choose from, both beautifully presented. Fabulous buy with TravelZoo coupon for 2.
We had a great time and the hostess was very kind to show us some interesting things to see.
The service was great and the crab cakes were amazing!
We had an amazing experience here. My husband and I both ordered the filet mignon. It was served perfectly and melted in your mouth. The hostess had seen our interest in the various writings and photos and as it was a quiet evening at NPC, she walked us around and let us wander to our hearts content. Such a fun evening!
All around excellent.
We were delightedly surprised.
Will be back !!
We have eaten at the Fourth Estate several times and have always enjoyed it. The staff is always very personable and accommodating. We have used the Travelzoo voucher which offers an outstanding value. My wife's steak was one of the best we have had and my crabcakes were very good. The ambiance really makes for an enjoyable evening especially touring the halls and the myriad of pictures greatly relives history for you.
We recommend going there very highly.
Impressive atmosphere without pretension. Service highly professional and still friendly. Food was more than delicious and more than ample. Impressed with change of silverware between courses and plating of shared courses. Price very reasonable for the quality of food. A definite return to on our next visit to DC.
the crab cakes were large, and lumpy-Yay!, just not as fresh as last time. Service excellent. The bread is forgettable. On a travelzoo deal, so it was a great value.
Set at the top of the Press Club building, behind gates but open to the public, is a gem of a restaurant. In such a classic setting, the modern and thoughtful menu was a surprise. The allergen labeling was thorough and there were many gluten-free options. My "bowl" came with the ingredients independently orbiting a purple rice mound in the center, so that I could mix as I wished. What a lovely presentation of fascinating ingredients - crystalized ginger, potatoes cut to resemble mushrooms, peeled baby tomatoes of several colors, perfectly-cooked vegetables, etc. For someone with a lot of allergies, it was marvelous to be able to pick and choose. The staff was attentive and gracious, the food wonderful, and the cost modest.
Great place wonderful location and a meal to remember
Quiet restaurant with excellent food and service. Décor is very plain, however.
This was an intimate space on the one floor of the press club building where non-members are allowed! We had to get through a couple of security measures on the way in, so just be aware. Very few menu options, but all were delicious!
The place is a little hard to find, but we had a lovely dinner with interesting entrees and great service. The only thing I would fault is the dessert. It was ok, but not that exciting.
We had a special deal $39 for any two entrees, one dessert, and a bottle of house wine. If it weren’t for the special, I would rate this restaurant even lower. I wouldn’t pay full price. Food was mediocre, and the service less than mediocre. The only draw was the displays outside the restaurant in the hallways, but you don’t need to eat there to see that. Unfortunately I can not recommend this restaurant.
This is a wonderful place to dine with friends. All of our meals were delicious, and the servers are just the right mix of polite and friendly.
Great meal at a great price. Service was friendly And efficient without being overbearing. Will definitely be back.
The food was scrumptious, the service was impeccable and the ambiance was superb. An enjoyable meal was had by all!
in Garage Parking available nearby. Interesting to look at the pictures as you enter the dining room.
All staff friendly and welcoming. Lovely dining room. Excellent service. Waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful. He provided first class service. The menu had wonderful choices and everything was delicious.
We had the scallops and rockfish and both dishes were excellent.
Limited menu but tasty entrees and fine service. Not much atmosphere
I have been to this restaurant numerous times and I am never disappointed.
We took our son and his wife there to celebrate his birthday. Great evening and dinner. It’s intimate enough that the waiters remember us from previous visits. Definitely one of our favorites in DC area.
It took forever for them to process the payment with my open table reward card. Merchants who put themselves in this site really need to make sure they know how to use the rewards that customers may come in with.
This is a fantastic hidden secret. The restaurant is in the National Press Building and has historic photos everywhere. The food is great and reasonably priced. The service is exceptional and the atmosphere is quite and dignified. They even have free parking. Have the gigantic crab cakes or the Porterhouse steak.
The food was delicious, a special spot in DC. Fun to admire all the photos that line the walls.
A hidden gem in the nation's capital. The restaurant at the National Press Club is open to the public. The dining room is beautiful and clubby without being stuffy. The staff is amiable, attentive, and accommodating. And the food is tops, including an array of creative vegetarian entree choices. We have had both lunch and dinner here with great satisfaction and happily recommend The Fourth Estate.
