Detroit's Fountain Bistro provides European-inspired dishes created by Executive Chef Javon Robinson and Chef de Cuisine Jerry Nottage. Stop in for brunch, lunch or happy hour, or experience the coursed meal offerings and prix fixe tasting menu for a long, leisurely dinner.
Fountain Bistro guests will love the coconut shrimp, crepe du jour, charcuterie and cheese plate and many other appetizers. Entrée options like the pappardelle, roast airline chicken and duck confit are sure to satisfy those looking for worldly tastes. Make sure to try the Fountain Bistro burger or filet mignon au poivre for a hearty finish that pairs well with a cocktail or fine wine.
It was good. Although it was the last weekend before the business closed.
My husband and I went for Valentine's Day with the special 4 course menu. It was absolutely delicious!! I am not a seafood lover and was so happy they had other wonderful choices that I could enjoy. We did the optional wine pairing with each course and that was delightful!
Would love to go back again sometime!! Would definitely recommend the Fountain Bistro to anyone! :-)
We ate here on a Saturday night with 4 at the table. We all enjoy our food a lot. My only complaint that when the waiter explained the special of the night he should have told us the price of that meal. When the check came it turned out that my "special " was the most expensive item on the menu. 36.00
Can't think of a more welcoming spot downtown! Came in on a quiet Monday and we were quickly greeted and told we could sit wherever we were comfortable. Our server, Tracy, remembered us from a previous visit months ago. She is a delight! We have stopped in for full dinners and just appetizers and cocktails and have always been treated so warmly. We highly recommend the salmon entree and have never been disappointed by any of entree specials.
A cozy dinner at Fountain Bistro will make you fall in love with Detroit. Great food, great wine and there's not a bad seat in the whole place.
I think this is a great place for business lunches. Not a lot of noise to compete with.
Have dined at Fountain Bistro on several occasions, including a chef's table, and was never disappointed. Chef Jerry is always coming up with fresh, innovative, and tasty food options for every taste. Matt and staff are always gracious, professional, and willing to assist. Love sitting outside in the summer on the patio with our dog KC. Just can't say enough about this great restaurant.
We stopped in to ring year with flavor and it happened. Each course was artfully done. Like something that was not just whipped up but crafted.
The beautiful Christmas tree on Campus Martius was the view from our seats. The staff was great and the food incredible.
We also went for brunch on New Years. Brunch was also great. This is a must visit place.
Early dinner with family on New Year's Eve. Might have been the first table of the night so it was a little slow to start, but the special 4 course meal was great. Entrée ( short ribs) and dessert were the best of the 4 courses. Kind of strange with the multitudes of people outside the windows milling around the ice rink and park. Would like to return on a "normal" night to try the main menu.
We arrived and were promptly seated. However, it took 30 minutes to get service and only then after bringing our wait to the attention of the manager. Our server let us know the restaurant was short of help. But after we brought our situation to the attention of management, our service & the meal were quite satisfying. My questions to the restaurant are as follows: Why were we seated in a section that apparently was not assigned to any of the staff on site; how is it that at least 3 employees came into our area but were unaware that we were seated at an isolated table and had not received any service; finally, prior to seeking out a member of the staff to advise of our predicament, I tried to call the restaurant 2 times only to have the call go directly to voice mail, what if one of the patrons needed to be made aware of a family or other emergency. Given we had a guest with us who had never been to this restaurant, this initially was an embarrassing situation however the manager comped us on the first round of drinks.
Good food, and great location by Campus Martius. Duck confit is excellent as are Greek Sliders. Good happy hour prices for drinks and apps.
Worth a visit! A nice menu with a variety of options. The only downside was that the waiter kept telling us about all of the items they had run out of already on a busy Saturday evening! It was a little tacky... The view was fun and the restaurant/bar had a casual but swanky feel to it. Chicken pappardelle was an amazing dish!
The restaurant was fabulous, except for the hostess, who was unpleasant. It was an easy walk from Joe Louis Arena and the Cadillac Square Peoplemover stop. The view of the Christmas lights in Campus Martius was beautiful! I would strongly recommend it if you can get past the hostess.
Not only did i find a salad which blew my mind (and I am not a salad eater) but I also found a local Michigan beer by Shorts which was one of the best ive ever had. Located centrally its well worth a visit.
The steak was done to perfection and the whitefish special was so good, it didn't need the lemon sauce that was served on the side. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the food selections. Was surprised by how easy it was to get a table on a Saturday night and want to go back to try more.
our group of six had an excellent brunch/lunch with an absolutely outstanding server. her friendliness and professionalism came very natural and complimented our meal perfectly. unfortunately, i don't remember her first name but it started with A.
Been to The Fountain several times. Good and service are always excellent. If you are going to an event at Cobo or Joe Lewis, it's worth the short walk for a nice meal.
I would encourage anybody staying downtown Detroit to try this little gem!
It's located next to a park and has outside seating. I was staying downtown and had a dinner meeting at the restaurant. I felt safe and walked from my hotel.
Great service, food and wine!
My favorite restaurant in downtown. The food is always excellent. great spot for brunch before a Lions or Tiger game.
We went to Fountain Bistro for DRW. It was a perfect evening to sit outside and enjoy the fountain and city view. Our waiter was great. The food was okay, good portion size but a little underwhelming. Overall we had a great evening celebrating a birthday and will return.
It was a delight to watch the fountain as we enjoyed brunch.
great spot in the warm evening to watch the fountains and enjoy great service and food . we enjoyed Detroit Resturant week …. we will come back … parking was rather difficult
My favorite place to sit down for a drink, to meet with friends or just to enjoy the weather.
I didn't know! Fountain Bistro was a wonderful surprise to me last night. We went there for dinner last night and the place is awesome. The menu was so deliciously written it was hard to decide what to have . It being Restaurant Week in Detroit, the menu was set for a 3 course meal. Each course had the most appetizing menu items offered. There was also a $14 upgrade wine pairing option with the menu. What a great place! The atmosphere, the food, the staff, the prices,..... I can't wait to revisit!
The best part of the dinner was the attention we got from our waitress and support staff. Never intrusive and just the right amount of attention to let us know they were there.
One friend out of the four of us must have made the right choices because he started with the Duck Confit, had the Swordfish as the entree and finished with the Bananas Foster Pudding. He raved about all three.
The rest of us chose either the chicken or the wild boar as entrees and weren't as overwhelmed. The food was good, the beets in my salad were tasty, but it didn't Wow.
We'll give it another try because the staff were that good.
Food was amazing, service was amazing, ambiance was amazing!! Wonderful Detroit find!
Great meal all the selections for restaurant week we had were fantastic. Great location, the service was excellent. It was quiet enough that we could easily have a conversation during dinner, a huge plus in my book. This was our second meal here and we will definitely go again.
Fountain Bistro is a unique restaurant. It is small in size but great in taste. The ambiance is beautiful and full of life
I would recommend family and friends
My wife and I went to Fountain Bistro with another couple as part of Detroit Restaurant week, where they served us a 3-course dinner for $35... definitely worth every penny of that value. Otherwise, it is a little pricey for the portions but not too much.
The atmosphere is the main attraction, right in the midst of Campus Martius in downtown Detroit, with fountains rolling, people playing on the "beach," and lots of buzz in general taking place. Sitting outside is key to enjoying this establishment.
The food was very tasty and original. - wild boar shank, shrimp pesto pasta, creme brûlée cheesecake, banana foster bread pudding, etc. We opted for a wine flight with each course, which was very well selected (minus one of the dessert wines, which was not enjoyable at all). All the food was great.
Of course, for the value we paid, it was epic. Normally, it would be worth it but only on a beautiful day for the view as well.
On tour we stopped in for dinner during DRW. The food was good, campus martius was fun; we sat outside. Go for it.
We have enjoyed Fountain Bistro on many different occasions...but were first introduced to this fine dining establishment during a DRW. We love bringing friends who have never been to this restaurant. They are always 'blown away' by the ambiance, the food, the service, the view and seeing downtown Detroit alive! We always start off with a drink at the bar. We never feel rushed to get to our table by staff....always relaxed. The food has always been amazing, beautifully presented and never disappointing. The wine list is also exceptional. The staff has always been friendly with great service. We love the location and there is plenty of parking available.
We always look forward to a return visit.
for the price, we felt cheated. we ordered a bottle of wine trying to make the experiance more classy than what we felt it should have been for the price and limited menu. it did not work .
Try the Airline Chicken -seriously, it's very good
Outside dining during music festival at Campus Martius Park. Great service and excellent service.
Great cocktails, too!
We had the hamburger and the pappardelle with salmon. Both were excellent. Pat, our waitress, was extremely attentive, but not intrusive. It was especially nice to see how much is going on downtown and how vibrant the area has become. Look out New York!
Service wasn't all that great. They seemed to be pre-occupied. The food was pretty tasty. Presentation was alright. It seemed like it would be better from the video preview I ran across on youtube. My date wasn't satisfied with her champagne but the salmon and the parpadelle were both very good. The caesar salad was meh and below average size. Overall it's a nice place to be and is in a very good location to see a lot of the city from one spot. Eating outside is cool. Inside was fine as well. I will come back for sure I've heard very good things about the duck confit.
It was alright but nothing special. The food seemed a bit pricy for mediocrity. It was described as a French Bistro. But there wasn't very French besides the fact they served duck.
We stopped here for lunch while passing through Detroit. It was unimpressive. The food was uninspiring as was the atmosphere. We shared a veggie burger, which I have to say was not bad - but it certainly was not worth the trip into Detroit. Was sorry we didn't just drive through Detroit (although I'm certain there are many other good food options -- don't get me wrong!)
Great spot for brunch. On a Saturday at 11:30 we were seated immediately outside. Great atmosphere and great food. Robert our server took great care of us. I had the bistro benedict and my husband had the smoked salmon hash. Both fabulous dishes. We moved from Detroit to Charleston 5 yrs ago and are serious foodies so we don't impress easily. Would definitely comeback.
