Foundry On Elm Ratings and Reviews
We used to live in Davis Square and we love coming back here. We've now been to Foundry on Elm twice for brunch, with our 9 year-old-son and we love it! Great food, great value, cool atmosphere, guitarist playing, in a great location. Love it and would highly recommend it!
Delicious food. Below average service.. We waited over 2 hours for our main courses and hadn't even been offered a bread bowl (while our neighboring diners were served their bread, mains, had left, and had been replaced with new visitors). We had the Brussels to share, which were fabulous, the pan seared salmon (absolutely bomb), chicken Milanese, which was ok, French onion soup (very good), and the chicken wings, which were cooked and seasoned to perfection.
A favorite for drinks and appetizers, this time we decided to have dinner before the show at the theater nearby. It had been a rough day, but the service, cocktails and bolognaise did the trick. Foundry staff know their menu and kept attentive without being intrusive. Great food at a decent price. Foundry never disappoints.
We had the poutine as an appetizer. The melted cheese and gravy were the best part of the experience. We also had the tomato soup, foundry burger, and white clam pizzeria. All we're delicious. The waiter is the best consultant on what beers to accompany the meal, especially since I was not familiar with what they were offering. They also have beer flights available if you want to explore. If you need a quiet area for dinner, the front part of the restaurant was too loud. Next time will ask for a table in the back. Other than that. Overall it was great!
We decided to try a restaurant in the suburbs since we are constantly going out in the city. It took us a half hour to order food and we didn't get bread until we ordered food. The bread was nothing to write home about either. I tried asking about the specials and recommended cocktails and the waiter was practically running from me. We wanted to order apps, but figured by the time we got apps we would be there all night. The atmosphere was great, the food was excellent, but the service was lacking. I must mention I do not believe this is due to the server, as I noticed he had many tables, but two and half hours for a meal with no apps and one drink each is not worth returning to this establishment.
Sadly I'm not sure if it was a case of a bad evening for the restaurant or our server in particular or if this is a regular occurrence but I was disappointed overall. The waitress did not check and see if the bar had a particular type of gin, instead guessed they wouldn't, followed by telling us the kitchen was busy so we should hurry up and order, implying more tables were to come.
The food was dry overall and not to standard. The staff were flustered and the dessert needed a chainsaw (pecan chocolate pie). Sadly I wouldn't recommend this for dinner.
Looking for a quick dinner before a movie. Great find. Table was ready when we got there. Our server, Jordan, was a doll. On her A game the whole time. Great beer menu. Awesome selection of craft beers. Really interesting menu. Something for everyone. The bacon wrapped dates (Devils on Horseback) were amazing. Mezze plate was delicious. Pizzette was perfectly cooked crispy crust with interesting topping choices. High top tables are a little close together so makes for that awkward slide to the inside seating. Highly recommend giving Foundry on Elm a try.
Food was a bit better than okay. The service was just terrible. Waitress (Nicole) was not at all attentive and it was otherwise difficult to get her attention. She never noticed that the wine glasses were empty nor the appetizers eaten. After the meal was finished, we had to physically track her down to get our bill (over $250) and then wait ten minutes for the credit card to be processed. Among the other problems was that there was no catch of the day - it might not otherwise have been a problem but for the only seven or eight items on the entries list. The waitress was a nice and pleasant enough person, but for whatever reason, she was not around when needed. Maybe it had to do with table assignments or other responsibilities, but it led to an overall very poor dining experience. This place has done, and can do a much better job. Possibly the problem is endemic. It seemed like there were no "grown ups" in charge. There was always a lot of activity, but it was more like a staff of chickens with their heads cut off. I think they need a serious reassment of their service model.
I don't see myself returning in the near future- too bad.
We came for the Thursday beer dinner, which is a 2 course meal + 2 beer pairings for $20! When I first heard of this, I thought it would be a sample size of beer with each course, but it is a full beer with each course! This is a great value and the food was excellent! I hope to return to more beer dinners, but I also really want to try the poutine!
I enjoy Foundry in Elm very much. I do very much miss their croque-monsieur. I'd like to see them revamp their menu a bit... I don't have any "go to" dishes, so I keep trying new ones and at this point have tried most all of it. Great beer selection, local and beyond.
Enjoyed early dinner at Foundry. Date app as well as Tune app was delish
Burgers excellent, grind of meat was really good
A bit overprices for apps and burgers. Enjoyed cocktail selection as well.
Should add sweet potatoe fries to the menu.
Regualr fries were very good but salad was a big blah as a side substitute.
Service a bit unattentive with place mostly empty
Very limited menu for dinner. Tuna Niçoise salad very boring and low grade tuna used. Fries fantastic. Salmon very good. Mostly apps and drinks. Extensive wine menu compared to other Davis square restaurants. Waitress not warm or friendly but very efficient.
I've been to Foundry on Elm a few times and always enjoy it, although I wish they'd get rid of the TVs above the bar—the space is so beautiful that the sports-bar vibe of the bar just feels really out of place. The food is amazing, and their beer, wine and cocktail lists are all impressive. A great place to take out-of-town guests who want a less touristy experience.
Excellent quality brunch. Not usually a buffet brunch fan, but everything we tried was excellent. Made to order omelets, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, baked french toast and beignets (with lemon curd and chocolate options) and more. Very good service. really enjoyable background live acoustic guitar music. My only complaint is that the "French Picnic" section of the brunch with wonderful cheeses and prosciutto did not have a baguette or any bread. No bread at all with the brunch. Better for my waistline but seemed strange.
