Foundation Restaurant and Bar
Went on Valentine’s Day. Had the grilled artichokes for app and it was pretty good. For dinner they were not really prepared. First they were out of mashed potatoes and said we can replace with any other side. I picked the parmesan risotto and my wife picked Brussels sprouts. Then they said they are out of B sprouts so she chose asparagus. She had the braised short rib which she liked. I had the New York steak which I did not like. It was drowning in sauce and pretty much raw. The risotto was not risotto. It was pretty much undercooked white rice. No Parmesan flavor, really no flavor and crunchy. They took half off my dinner which was ok with me. Just need to be more prepared for special occasions like Valentines. Server was really nice but cook should of never sent my plate like that.
Great service. Food was ok. Drinks strong
Great menu for Valentine’s Day
Mash potatoes arrived cold with our New York steak, all entrees were inconsistent in size and presentation but we made the best of it and our waiter was good but problems in the kitchen
I had only been to this restaurant previously for happy hour. We chose this restaurant for Valentine’s Day because we didn’t want a pre-selected menu. The city was awkward and super close to other tables. We requested to move and were told that we cannot have a booth, as they were reserved for parties of four. However during the rest of our dining experience, multiple couples were then seated at these same booths. My husband enjoyed his steak, but my steak salad was super dry and not flavorful at all. I would only return here for drinks at happy hour in the future. Not impressed as a dinner venue.
We were early to our reservation time. The restaurant was about 40% full. There was one waiter for our area. We had to wait nearly 20 minutes just for water, and more for our orders to be taken, even though in my reservation I specified we were attending a show (told the waiter as well). Food was alright.
Great food and service always!
I arrived 10 minutes early for my reservation (2 people) and was promptly seated, then I was ignored. after 5 minutes the guy serving water came by and gave us water. The waitress never came by and proceeded to take orders from two tables(2 people each).
Subsequently, we decided to leave and I have written a negative review on Yelp and posted a negative review on my Facebook that I will NEVER go back to this place.
This place should clearly not be on a must visit unless it is the last restaurant available after a nuclear explosion..and that is eve iffy.
We started with the artichoke appetizer. It was tender and tasty and turned out to be an excellent choice. My husband had the braised short ribs. They were some of the best he has ever had. I chose the pork loin. The flavor was amazing but it was a tad overcooked and that made it a little dry. It was served with some fried potato slices.
The menu has plenty of options. We will definitely e going back. Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable and that’s always a plus in my book.
It was our first dining experience at Foundation restaurant. We were early for our reservation but we were seated promptly. We thoroughly enjoyed the three course meals that were the specials offered that week.
Our server, Rachel ensured our dinner time went smoothly and made us want to return again!
Had high expectations for the foundation restaurant and bar and it was just blah. Nothing special. Won’t be going back.
The entrance to this restaurant was a little hard to find, but once you found it, the place is cozy. They bright white lights decorating the outside of the building shines at night. I was a bit early for my reservation for Dine in Sacramento to meet my friends. The waiter was very friendly and moved a chair so my wheelchair could easily sit at the table. I decided on an appetizer of fried artichokes and Brussel sprouts. I did not like the artichokes, they didn’t have any “meat” on the leaves. The Brussel sprouts were warm and were cooked with bacon. Delicious. My friends arrived and we ordered off the prepared menu. I chose the spicy green beans for my appetizer. They warmed you up and the sauce cooled you down. Next came the entree which was the braised short ribs on mashed potatoes with a reduced red wine sauce. The meat was so tender you could pull it apart with your fork. The last course was dessert of chocolate brownie pie. I almost lost my etiquette by wanting to lick the plate of dark chocolate and caramel sauce. I didn’t. I would recommend you coming here if not for food they have a selection of classic and modern cocktails.
Upon arrival, we were quickly seated. I began the meal with the Korean BBQ Short Ribs. They were tender and perfectly barbecued. They were served on a bed of delicious, yet slightly spicy coleslaw. I ordered the ranch pork loin. It was sliced into several pieces and served on a bed of Yukon potatoes that were thinly sliced and fried (maybe) along with button mushrooms all in a truffle glaze sauce. I cleaned the plate. For dessert we chose the decadent chocolate brownie and again it was delicious. The other diner chose the fried green beans which were surprisingly crisp and delicious. For the entree, the short ribs were chosen served over mashed potatoes and carrots. The short ribs melted in her mouth. The Foundation has been a favorite over the years. It never disappoints, whether it's dine downtown week or you are ordering off the standard menu. We also had cocktails which were great to the last drop. Our server's recommendations based on our likes were perfect. The service was excellent. We were given time to go over the menu. Each time we were ready for the next course, poof, it was there. The Foundation is one of our "go to" dining establishments. Try it if you haven't already. Truly, you won't be sorry.
30 minutes to get our drink and then all our food, apps, salad and entree came at once. Horrible waitress
We definitely will be back. Foundation is a fun place, not loud, just fun when we were there at 5:45. The food on the Dine Sac menu was great- Short ribs and the salmon. We look forward to returning and trying items off the regular menu.
Location is ideal, cozy environment but a bit too loud for a date night.
We had a disappointing visit during "Done Sacramento" week. Although I reserved several days in advance and the Restaurant was half empty, we were intially shown a tiny table in a hallway. The restaurant was cold and lacked ambiance. Out three course meal was disappointing. The Korean beef skewers barely had any flavor and tasted watery - no comparison or resemblance of real Korean BBQ flavor. The fried green beans were heavily fried in batter and tasted it ok. Or waiter highly recommended Beef Shortribs, but they were overcooked and dry. We certainly will not be back to this place.
The food was great, but it is a slightly smaller space.
We loved our food and service. We were seated at a table that was less than satisfactory, and they were wonderful about changing us to the table we wanted.
Great service, great food... Can't wait to go back. Fried green beans are a must.
We ordered 2 small plates, 1 entree and 1 flatbread. Everything was delicious. We got there early when they opened so just a few others were in the restaurant and bar. Service was great and we'll definitely go back!
Nice waitress. Hostess was rude just let me find my table with my friends myself
Food was very good
First time we had been to this restaurant, but it always smells amazing when we walk by. The service was friendly and very fast. We had a reservation, and were seated immediately. Our server was very nice and attentive. We both had the short rib stroganoff which was very good. The menu had many choices that all looked good. Our food came out quickly and we were on our way to the King’s game. We will definitely eat here again.
Been here before but this time the kitchen cooking was off and service was not as efficient as usual. Food was a bit salty. Will try again at a later date though.
As usual, Foundation was GREAT before the Kings game!
Service was slower for an half full restaurant. An ok place to earn for traveling through Sacramento.
Reservations for 6:00pm on Saturday, Nov. 30. Loud party at the bar overwhelmed the restaurant with NOISE and foul language, even with a young girl of about 11 years old at the table to mine! No attempt to quiet them down was made during our dinner. Also disappointed that the bartender was drinking along with the patrons. --Mike R.
We ordered a ton of food between the three of us and all shared. My two critiques are that the Brussels sprouts should be cut in half (served while makes for mushy centers) and the risotto needs help (no flavor! Needs mushrooms or peas or bacon)
Good time! Enjoyed the flatbread!
Very slow service ....50 minutes from when we sat down to cold food being brought to the table. Won’t be back.
Great food, server was friendly but slammed. Appetizers came out with entrees about an hour after being seated at 6pm. Best to book an early reservation on an event night but otherwise enjoyed this place.
Met my Aunt and Uncle for dinner. The service was excellent the waitress couldn’t have been nicer. The food was ok. My uncle had muscles and fries and he said they were really good, my aunt had the filet and she said it was tough, I had the steak salad and the steak was overdone and I asked for no tomato’s and they were on there. I would return for drinks and small bites maybe before an event at the arena. The restaurant wasn’t busy and it was loud.
Food was spectacular! Service was wonderful. Desert was delicious. All the recommendations from the sever were tasty!! Price was reasonable.
Unfortunately our order was lost!
We were there with plenty of time to eat. 40 mins after ordering, still no food. They were nice enough to only charge for the drink we had. Server apologized but then had to throw in some back talk excuse like it was our fault because we ordered an appetizer.
It was one of our favorite places to go b4 the game. Not sure now.
Very consistent food and service. Friendly atmosphere.
I was there with a group and was pleased that all expressed delight by the variety of choices. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu, helping us decide what we’d enjoy most. From flatbread to salad—all was good. And the wine list was sufficient to a range of tastes. Most impressive, a group of 30 came in just ahead of us but we didn’t have to wait for service or food!
Food was very good. Server was very professional. Longish wait for food to be served.
The food at Foundation barely passes as 'just ok' for me. We both ordered the petit filet and waited an hour for the two steaks before they were served. The beignets we ordered for dessert were super dense balls of overcooked dough covered in more powered sugar than a package of gas station mini doughnuts and did not have any type of chocolate or raspberry drizzle/sauce paired with that you find in typical presentations of beignets. The service was friendly, but lacking times (forgetting things, etc). The ambiance was disappointing. We were seated in a corner between a group of loud drunks at the corner of the bar and a loud birthday party who had no control of their kids and decided to come and go using the side door next to our table several times with no regard for the tables seated around them. For the price, Foundation fails to deliver.
They killed it with the ribs
