Foundation Restaurant and Bar
Met my Aunt and Uncle for dinner. The service was excellent the waitress couldn’t have been nicer. The food was ok. My uncle had muscles and fries and he said they were really good, my aunt had the filet and she said it was tough, I had the steak salad and the steak was overdone and I asked for no tomato’s and they were on there. I would return for drinks and small bites maybe before an event at the arena. The restaurant wasn’t busy and it was loud.
Food was spectacular! Service was wonderful. Desert was delicious. All the recommendations from the sever were tasty!! Price was reasonable.
Unfortunately our order was lost!
We were there with plenty of time to eat. 40 mins after ordering, still no food. They were nice enough to only charge for the drink we had. Server apologized but then had to throw in some back talk excuse like it was our fault because we ordered an appetizer.
It was one of our favorite places to go b4 the game. Not sure now.
Very consistent food and service. Friendly atmosphere.
I was there with a group and was pleased that all expressed delight by the variety of choices. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu, helping us decide what we’d enjoy most. From flatbread to salad—all was good. And the wine list was sufficient to a range of tastes. Most impressive, a group of 30 came in just ahead of us but we didn’t have to wait for service or food!
Food was very good. Server was very professional. Longish wait for food to be served.
The food at Foundation barely passes as 'just ok' for me. We both ordered the petit filet and waited an hour for the two steaks before they were served. The beignets we ordered for dessert were super dense balls of overcooked dough covered in more powered sugar than a package of gas station mini doughnuts and did not have any type of chocolate or raspberry drizzle/sauce paired with that you find in typical presentations of beignets. The service was friendly, but lacking times (forgetting things, etc). The ambiance was disappointing. We were seated in a corner between a group of loud drunks at the corner of the bar and a loud birthday party who had no control of their kids and decided to come and go using the side door next to our table several times with no regard for the tables seated around them. For the price, Foundation fails to deliver.
They killed it with the ribs
Food was terrible and one guest got sick.
Great service! Homemade potato chips and French fries were perfect... delicious Cobb salad and wings. All in all a positive experience. We will go back!
This was such a pleasant surprise! We booked a reservation for dinner before going to a concert at the Golden One. The food was EXCELLENT, the location superb, the pricing very reasonable and the ambiance great (a bit loud, but let's be honest … we're getting a little older so the noise level at some restaurants is louder than we would like) - but overall AWESOME! Will be back … for sure!
The food is excellent and surprisingly affordable. Cocktails were great (they made a very good Old Fashion and St Germain cocktail). Our server, Jack, was excellent: prompt, attentive without hovering, helpful with menu selections, eager to elevate a normal dinner-out to a celebration, by suggesting a wonderful dessert with candle, once he discovered we were observing a special birthday.
We'll definitely keep this on our list of favorite places to eat.
The braised short ribs were fantastic and the service was excellent. OH, and the Manhattan was very good!
We celebrated our son's birthday on Wednesday night. Because it was a weeknight it wasn't very busy but regardless the service was excellent.
Sara and Tony did a great job at the bar. Worked also with Jack at the host stand, who was very accommodating, as I arrived early. Great food, ! Great night! Would definitely return when traveling to the sacramento area again!!
This was a quick lunch and the waiter helped us decide on items that would be delivered quickly. Very pleased wit service and food.
Short ribs were dry and the gravy was very salty. It took at least 30 minutes between our last course and the entree to be served.
I had the short rib dinner with mashed potatoes, carrots and gravy. It was exquisite!! I highly recommend this restaurant.
Visiting from out of town. We enjoyed this place so much that we returned again two days later bringing someone else with us. Server made excellent recommendations. We tried a wide variety of items and was pleased with each one. The flavors even on something you thing you know were surprising and excellent! This place should be overwhelmed with customers!
Always great food! It's our go to place for drinks and dinner.
As always, very attentive service from the moment we arrived for a biz luncheon. Food was prepared in a spot-on fashion. The casual club atmosphere has always been a draw for me. And the owners make a real effort to show their appreciation for the business.
We came for dinner before a movie on a date night. What a find, food was delicious, service was excellent! We will be back.
This place is amazing. The food is unbelievable. We had the beef skewers as an appetizer. They were so good we ordered a second one. The pasta and beef dishes were out of this world. We could not get over how good the food was. I will go back any time I'm in sac. Even the lemonade was amazing. Homemade. I can not give this place high enough stars.
Our reservation was for 6:45, and we had to wait until 7 to get seated. I liked my salad, but my husband thought his was not good - very chewy. It had Brussel sprouts in it, but they were raw. We had 2 salads and 2 glasses of wine, and our bill was $98 after tip. That was a shock.
Great service and great food! A little above mid range on price but worth it I think!
I enjoyed a full order of salad and added salmon. My friend had the appetizers
Service was excellent. My husband drinks a lot of water, the glasses were small but his glass was always refilled. Food excellent, frito misto and fried green beans for starters, recommend both. Husband had Casesr salad and pork chop, both excellent and I had the main salad with salmon, excellent. Wines by glass were generous pours. Russian River chad for me and Pinot Noir for husband. Only thing we missed was bread, they didn’t serve it nor was it a menu option. Short walk to Golden 1 where we had tickets. We had 5:30 reservations which was ample time to get to the venue and walk around before we got seated. We will be back.
The only good thing I can say about this place was that the crunch on the fried green beans was good. The service was slow, the Brussels sprouts we ordered were forgotten and then when they finally came out they were bitter and hard. Yuck!!
The staff were attentive and friendly. Worked well under pressure (event at Golden 1). Food is very good and proportions in line with the price. We’ll definitely come back.
Everything about Foundation was great! We made reservations for dinner just before going to see ELO across the street at Golden1. We walked in for our 6:15 reservation, and the place was packed. People waiting. We were greeted in a friendly way and seated immediately! Service was friendly and prompt. My friend ordered the tacos and warned that she might not like them as she is very picky. She wiped the plate at the end and gushed over the fresh and perfect ingredients. I ordered the salmon salad and received a SLAB of salmon filet over chopped raw brussels sprouts, dried cranberries and other seasonings/nuts, incredible! How much did all of that cost? Each were around $15. Then we walked across to the concert. A perfect beginning to a great evening!
Nice food choices, good food, easy to get in and good service
There were 3 of us. We had great food, great food and wine. We used to come here when it was The 4th St Grill. They have kept the pork on the menu. Experience was excellent.
Fantastic dinner. Cocktails: myTito's dirty martini was perfect and my guest had a delicious lemon drop. We both had the dinner special - halibut in a caper butter sauce with sliced potatoes and veggies. Absolutely delicious. Ate every bite. Restaurant was packed with concert-goers, yet the service was very good, despite never getting a water refill. Otherwise, excellent service. Always have a good meal at Foundation. Highly recommend and reservations are a must if there is an event at the Golden One Center.
Food was really good and the waitstaff was very friendly and efficient. Restaurant is close to Golden 1 Center, so ideal for a meal before a night on the town. Would recommend Foundations in a heartbeat.
Service was slow and our waitress actually hinted they needed the table.
First, I’ve been here several times and would recommend it. This may have been an off night since it was before a concert at Golden One. The entrees were very good but artichokes were undercooked and tough. Salad came out with the entree instead of before with no explanation as if it was ok. We didn’t eat the salad at all as it was too much at once. The waitstaff were either clueless or didn’t care. This isn’t cheap food so things like that matter. It was so noisy we couldn’t hear each other. We won’t go there again before an event.
It is a perfect place to eat before a venue at the Golden Center. I have eaten there many times, and it is time to update the menu. The noise level is very high, but the service staff is friendly and does a great job with the crowds.
Of all restaurants downtown, Foundation is one of the best. Very tasty food, polite professional service, better than average prices, and good margaritas!!!
It was an event night, so it was loud, but that was expected. Steak salad was good, drinks were good, service was friendly and attentive. The donut holes are a MUST. Only two bathroom stalls was a little rough, but I imagine it isn't always that full of a bunch of women excited to see NKOTB.
It really depends on what you want out of dinner. It was fun to try a new place and the atmosphere was very nice but the food was nothing special or something I would want to go out to have again. The service was great and the wait staff especially friendly and helpful.
