Love the revamped menu with lots of small plates and many interesting and delicious vegetarian options. The halloumi with nuts and beets and the deviled eggs were particular favorites. Also enjoyed the ginger kombucha on tap and fresh juice options, in addition to the fun cocktails. We'll be back often!
We went soon after the new "1960's" format rolled out, and sat outdoors. Service was very slow and perfunctory, though we saw different servers being much more attentive to nearby tables. The food is good, emphasizing vegetables and local providers. Our favorite dish was the cauliflower, and least was disappointing carrots. Nice wine list, though they were out of the Sauvignon Blanc and did not offer to open one of the SB's sold by the bottle.
We'll probably give it a month or two and then try again. Disappointing at this point, but we have high hopes it will kick back into gear.
They were out of my number 1 and 2 choice of dish. Being a pescatarian it only left me with one choice-salmon which is not my favorite fish. All food kept coming out at different times.I know all dishes are meant to be shared but how do you share a hamburger? My husband’s hamburger came out long after everyone else was done eating. Decor is nice but we will not be coming back. You only get one chance to make a good impression and this was not it.
Poor service, coursing was way off.
My husband and I ordered frittatas and although it tasted like a good omelette, it was not a frittata. We went for a late lunch and were hungry...... we left a little hungry. There should have been a bread basket? We tried to order the homemade donuts for dessert but they were unavailable.
I suggest you go at an early lunch to be sure there are those donuts as the waitstaff had even told us they were great.
The waitstaff was very nice!
I might go back for dinner......at dinner time!
Great service and staff. Great location in Evanston. Tasty appetizers. The food was really really good. I didn’t realize when I made the reservation that they serve small plates, like tapas. I was surprised at the very small portions and very large prices. That being said, the food was excellent! The drinks were very good. Many creative combinations to choose from. I would go back again.
Great food, great service, great evening. Would definitely return.
The new decor and menu rival the past for greatness. The room is brighter and chic, and the veggie forward menu is delicious....and I am not that big a fan of veggies!
After moving to Evanston last summer, I was overjoyed to discover Found and had three wonderful meals there (from mid 2017 to early 2018). We were excited to try it out after the recent makeover and chef change to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and I'm sad to report that I was quite disappointed. I found the overall decor uninspiring, the service was not nearly as attentive or helpful as our past experiences, and the food was "good" but nothing to write home about. We tried several small plates and none were amazing. The asparagus/pesto flatbread and the roasted cauliflower were probably the best ones, but they both seemed overly oily and salty. My cocktail was quite good, so it seems the bar service is still top notch, but the meal left something to be desired. Overall, it was a letdown after the prior experiences that were among the best meals I've had in Chicagoland. Perhaps they're still working on the transition kinks, but I'm not sure we'll be going back anytime soon.
I keep wanting to like this place. But every time, new and old, a few great items and mostly items that aren’t great. Just too much for the quality. It’s not terrible - I just don’t need to go back.
Charming, eclectic spot in Evanston! Very tasty
We thought the crispy skinned thighs were delicious We ordered 2 separate times & the portions were skimpy & uneven. Did not enjoy the avocado toast. Olives had only 2 large green olives with little black olives. Carrots were delicious as was pecan pie/ice cream. Beet salad delicious cheese platter was tasty but Brie portion skimpy
I was very excited by the food! I’m vegan and love that there are so many options and adaptability. Every single thing we ordered was delicious and also loved the shareable portions.
The ew decor will take some getting used to for me. I was in love with the warm cozy look and vibe of the old place from the furniture to the chalkboard ceiling over the bar and the lovely quotes that lived there. I’m glad to see the 2 giant wooden butterfly/ flower screens are still there.
Lastly our service was a little off. The place wasn’t full but a simple order of chips took maybe 15 minutes and one of my clients had ordered them to get something quick because she hadn’t eaten. Until the very end of the meal our server had a slight attitude problem.
All and all it was a good experience and I actually brought a second group later that night. Everything was perfect at that visit.
I’ve been to Found twice before this visit. Once for a dinner and once for drinks. Both times I had a great experience. The food was unique and good, as were the drinks. I came back after two years expecting to to share a unique- small plates experience with my boyfriend, and was very disappointed. We ordered a stinging nettle flat bread that was very oily and the bread was hard. And both salmon and chicken dishes were lacking in flavor. The dessert was good, a date cake which was served with ice cream and sauce. But honestly, I was dissatisfied and disappointed. Especially because this was my boyfriend’s first small plates experience. I was told the chef had changed. They refunded us for the flatbread, which is what I expected. Service was slow too and inattentive. Again this is not how my first two experiences were in 2016 which why I came back :(
We visited Found a few days after it reopened with a new chef and a new theme. We liked the lower prices on the menu, but fear that sacrifices have been made to support the lower prices. The food choices were not as inspiring as those on the prior menu and the execution left quite a bit to be desired. For example, the artichoke and ricotta flatbread looked and tasted like something one could buy from the gluten-free freezer case at the local grocery store. Table service was slow and inconsistent (though this was the case before the reopening - one just needs to accept, I guess, that there could be quite a wait before the first dish comes out, and then all the others may come at once). The space is great (albeit noisy) and the place has an energetic vibe, so we really hope the menu and service come around.
Great time my guest could not make it I stayed super staff!!!
Welcoming vibe at Found. Fresh, new decor. Same friendly and knowledgeable service. Delicious veg-centric new menu items. Great for friends. Great for family. We’ll be back!
Service was good. Food was good. Unfortunately it was raining out so we could not take advantage of the outdoor seating. Inside was a little noisy but had a nice atmosphere.
Would’ve preferred to be Lost. Maybe they’re just trying too hard. Trying to be too urban chic. Too creative and original with their food. The dishes certainly had creative combinations of ingredients, they just weren’t very good. The service was less than marginal. Despite making reservations, we had a long wait, and they had us sit in the back by the bathrooms and then forgot they put us back there. The waitstaff should focus less on “cultural uniqueness” and just give a decent, efficient performance. I’ve spent some time in Europe, and they keep a simple focus on what they’re trying to do. Simple and delicious with great service—not trying so hard to “be cool “
Having lived in Evanston previously, my wife and I were excited about visiting for the weekend and having dinner again at Found. We checked their website to make sure their menu was still the same before booking (because we loved their chicken wings and meatballs). Imagine our surprise when our waiter handed us our menus for the evening and they were completely different!. According to our waiter, Found had closed for some time while they re-imagined their menu and it just so happened that that night was their "grand re-opening." I would have thought that ensuring their website was updated with their new menu beforehand would have been a priority. As it was, we struggled to find something we were interested in on their new menu, eventually settling for a couple of dishes that were completely average. Very disappointed!
A friend & I went to Found to check out their new makeover which included new chef, new menu and new decor. As much as I liked Found before, I was very impressed with the changes and love Found even more! We started with the caviar and it was affordable and fantastic. We selected a wonderful Pinot noir from the improved wine list, crispy chicken thighs that were delicious and flavorful and the salmon with arugula aioli which was so good I have to go back and have it again. Amy Morton loves food and loves people and it’s reflected in her restaurants.
Friendly, excellent service, great atmosphere, good wine and beer list and the food was outstanding!
I selected this restaurant for my guest, a graduating college senior who hadn’t dined there previously. The environment was relaxed and inviting. We had a great meal, and although the restaurant was full, it was easy for us to hold a conversation. I look forward to a future dining occasion at Found.
We made an early reservation on a beautiful Sunday evening and were so happy with our lovely (but a bit small) table with high back chairs near the open window. A casual vibe, with eclectic seating. Emphasis on locally sourced, fresh food and "small plates." We thoroughly enjoyed delicious bread, and shared an excellent baby lettuce salad, special asparagus (with the most delicious composed butter I've ever had), crispy chicken thighs and white bean and sausage flatbread. We also enjoyed the amazing flourless chocolate cake with chocolate ice cream. Outstanding service, knowledgeable, extremely helpful server. This is a very good dining choice, and one of the most interesting restaurants in the northern burbs.
Service would have been higher but waiter started to disappear towards the end of meal and pretty sure he forgot to enter one of the things we ordered until we asked about it and he just said there was some confusion.
Saw the pictures and thought it would be a super cute place for a date night with the husband. It was indeed very cute but the food was average and the service was abysmal so I would never return.
We ordered two drinks and four small plates to start. Two of the small plates came and were eaten before the drinks even arrived. Then we had to flag someone down for another drink while we ate the last two plates. We were completely expecting to order entrees but after waiting for fifteen more minutes for the waitress to come back we decided to skip it and go somewhere else. Our waitress didn't even bring us the check. We waited ten more minutes and then just went to the bar to settle up.
We ended up calling it our pre dinner and went down the street for our entrees.
Food wise, we got a salad, chicken thighs, mussels and chicken wings. All of it was good but not great. You pay for the ambiance and experience, which I am totally ok with if the experience was worth it...unfortunately it was most definitely not.
I wanted to really like this place: it looks really cool, it’s very trendy, great decorations, a great vibe. However, the food and the service we’re definitely needing improvement. For example, I ordered the salmon as a main dish and it was the smallest piece of salmon I’ve ever had in a restaurant, and, it was very salty. Also from the time we were seated at our table till the time we were served our food was way too long - about 50 minutes
Found is my go-to for an enjoyable lunch or dinner and there's nothing like enjoying a beautiful afternoon at a sidewalk table with friends. We had a tasty meal of starters including the mushroom and quark on toast and the always wonderful kale and Swiss chard salad, along with a glass of wine. The service was a little spotty but this is unusual and the lunch was otherwise a perfect early summer afternoon.
First time to Found—it was fantastic: the food, the cocktails, the atmosphere, everything. It’s a bit on the pricier side for small plates, in my opinion, but the food didn’t disappoint so I chalked it off as a minor thing in the end. Will definitely be back again.
Beautiful setting, nice waiter, great great great cocktails. Fun place for dinner.
Menu selection is very poor.
The food, as always, was quite good. Portion sizes vary widely even though they are all small plates, so I recommend checking with the server about each plate to make sure that no one gets only one bite of the dish they want. Every time I go, it feels like the host/hostess is doing me a favor by seating me at a table, even with a reservation. One of our dishes was brought out after the check had been signed, so that was an inconvenience as well. But the food tastes good and has a lot of options for different dietary restrictions.
This was my second time at this wonderful GEM in Evanston ! Highly recommend it for a special occasion , a date night or mid week treat. Great cocktails too!
We arrived a few minutes late to our reservation and were asked to sit at the bar. We got a drink (reinvented G&T was great!) and we couldn't transfer that cost to our table. Our server was lovely and recommended the buratta flatbread - for $15 it was terrible. Heavy on the macadamia nuts, ingredients fell off when you picked it up. Not good. Ordered a second glass of wine when we got the meat and sat for several minutes and waited for that while the meat got cold (our server was overworked). It was a $100 meal for 2 people and not worth it. Disappointing for sure.
This is our favorite restaurant in Evanston. We love the food, the staff, the vibe, and the location. The bar program is excellent. I am currently working my way through every cocktail. The beers are great, too.
We went late on Mother's Day for dinner thinking the crowds might be less. We were wrong. It was still very very busy at dinner. We had a lovely table and an attentive and knowledgable waiter. However, at 6:30 in the evening they had run out of several popular food items and while we were there, ran out of a couple other items. While that was disappointing, they really tried hard to compensate for the lack of some popular items and without our asking (or complaining..which we didn't feel compelled to do) they offered to comp our dessert which was a lovely and well appreciated gesture. The food we had was delicious and there were some creative combinations, beautifully presented. We did not feel rushed and could linger over our meal. We will return
We attended the Mother’s Day brunch.
Most of the food was outstanding. The whitefish was too fishy. You should find another source for it.
Nice evening out with friends and solid food. Chicken wings are too big and sticky...at a minimum, cut the into pieces befoe serving - they had good taste, but I dont enjoy sticky utensils, glass, napkin and fingers after. Pork chop and brussel sprout pizza with burrata were excellent! Service was friendly and efficient. Courses were spaced a bit far...food started arriving around 745...we left the restaurant at 11 pm, with a dessert course.
Found has an interesting if somewhat small menu but the dishes are carefully prepared and some of their small plates are big enough to share with 2 or 3 others. Flatbreads are quite good and interesting (burrata and brussel sprouts?)
