Closing due to Keswick Hall renovations. Hope to dine there again in its new incarnation. Its last evening, NYE, was wonderful.
Sadly, Fossetts is closed for renovations until Sring 2019
Made reservations for Fossett's and was placed in the lounge- bar. A very poor Christmas experience.
With only six tables to serve, the service was slow and non-engaging. We attended a brunch with plated service. The omelets arrived cold and less than tasty. The coffee was served luke-warm. Our experience was less than satisfying
Unimpressed. Wilted salad. Mediocre service. Overpriced. Lacking and just not the same as it used to be. Regardless of the fact that the resort is shutting down next month for 15 months should not allow its reputation to be diminished. For readers - We dined for lunch in Villa Crawford, which is down the hall from Fossets, but Open Table only gives Fossets as the option to book a reservation.
Horrible service; very unprofessional. Served lukewarm coffee and waiter failed to place our order. He did not even recall taking it when we asked about length of time waiting and said, “Did you place the order with someone else?” No apology or attempt to accommodate so we left without breakfast. Previous visits have always been wonderful so very disappointed things have deteriorated so drastically!
Food was delicious. Service poor, the waitress was very nice but she never came to check on us often. No one ask if we would like additional drinks or desert. I have not eaten in a such a nice restaurant without a table cloth on the table.
After calling and adding an additional person to our party the day before, when we arrived no one was aware of the change and seemed dumb founded in accommodating us in doing so. It was an awkward situation. There were many open and open free tables so I do not understand why this would have been a problem.
Beautiful, scenic facility, intimate setting, friendly courteous staff. Pricey
We read all the reviews about Keswick Hall and Fossett's and couldn't wait to visit. My wife and I came away very disappointed considering the price point. The portions were small, not hot and quite frankly just OK. Service was almost nonexistent, we had to flag down the wait staff a couple of times.
The price you pay for a meal should reflect some level of service. Very disappointed.
My wife and I came to Fossett's at Keswick Estate for our anniversary and had an absolutely perfect evening. The food was terrific, the wait staff was attentive without being overbearing, the view over the newly re-designed golf course was gorgeous, and all of our questions about the menu were nicely answered. We cannot wait to return.
We hadn't dined at Fossetts for quite a while after a couple of unfortunate experiences. I am pleased to report that it is much improved in terms of food quality and service. We are hoping that this is a sign that it will return to the great restaurant that it has been in the past. We will definitely return!
Wonderful dining experience. Nothing was rushed.
We've been to Fosset's on several occasions through the years, for dinner as well as breakfast. We've been more pleased in the past. We had breakfast and dinner there 25-27 August; we were guests at Keswick Hall. The host and hostesses came across as robotic and the servers as amateurish an/or poorly trained. We had the same experience with the server at the pool. I was really surprised, we had not experienced this in the past. Dinner was ok at best, breakfast was better than dinner; although the service was better at dinner than breakfast.
I was actually in The Villa Crawford for lunch and very disappointed to learn that Mario was gone as well as the lunch buffet. I hope you find a replacement soon! Since it's summer I was happy with the salad selections. Thanks!
Every course of our meal had an error. Eventually it was fixed. Loud children in attendance.
Excellent dining experience including food and service. This chef offers nice selection of food in creativity and presentation.
Extremely slow service and inattentive waitstaff. Food was great, and the views are wonderful.
BIG Disappointment! We have stayed at Keswick Hall and eaten at their restaurants several times over the past 20 years and we have never experienced as poor a showing as their 2017 Father's Day brunch. We made our reservation online where there was no mention that the meal was to be a buffet -- not the regular Sunday brunch menu. The Keswick staffer who called to confirm our reservation Saturday evening also did not mention the change to buffet. But the spread looked good so we waited (and waited and waited until we asked the hostess/manager for assistance) for our drink order to be taken before approaching the buffet. Although the ($58/pp) spread had ribs and unshucked corn on the cob (really!) there were no traditional egg options -- even at 11:30am! Then they ran out of cups and served coffee and tea in to-go cups -- with no spoons provided to stir in the cream and sugar!
Oh well, at least the desserts were good!
We last dined here 7 years ago. The food was great but the service was lacking and below what we would expect at a first rate restaurant. That had changed from last time.
The other aspect that was disappointing, was that not everyone was appropriately dressed for dinner.
T-shirt and sandals does not seem right for dinner attire.
Delicious food, excellent well-paced service. Would dine here again.
The Monday through Friday Villa Buffet is wonderful and changes daily.
One of the best dinners we've had in Virginia and we've lived here over 30 years! Staff, food, wine selection and magnificent view were all delightful. A wonderful way to spend our upcoming anniversary. I highly recommend this restaurant as well as Keswick Hall. What a lush, green paradise to play golf, tennis, ride horses or enjoy this spa. The 40 rooms are beautiful and the entire staff incredibly gracious. Not to be missed if you live nearby or are in the ccjarlottesville area. Worth a trip if you are mother! Superb!!!
We were terribly disappointed. When I made Open Table reservations I was not told this would be a pre fixe menu. It was so overpriced that it ruined our evening.
Food was slightly above average at best, desserts were store bought/packaged and below average. We were terribly let down. Would not recommend to anyone, and we have been there several other times.
And I sent a note directly to the restaurant and they did not respond.
Very enjoyable Mothers Day celebration.
It was great!!! The place is so beautiful! And the people are so nice that they gave us a little desert for my birthday!!!
This was an exceptional find for a Sunday Lunch to celebrate a special occasion. Food and Service was outstanding; atmosphere was traditional and welcoming.
A perfect setting for an excellent meal. Service was top notch too. The atmosphere / view are amazing, with nice spacing between tables, where quiet conversation can be had.
I was very pleased with the food and as always with Melissa's special care but the table was terrible. I recommend using the space for something else, like for chilling wine, etc. Being seated in front of the service nook and in the way of the traffic pattern for going in and out to the terrace.
Horrible! We are frequent visitors to Keswick and always stay at the Inn. Several months ago I had an equally horrible experience and we said we'd never dive at Fossetts again, certainly not without a 'cleaning of house' especially with the restaurant management. This week I happen to be visiting alone and decided to give it another shot. Bad decision. I made my reservation thru Open Table and when I arrived I was told I couldn't possibly have made a reservation at that time. However after waiting for some time was begrudgingly seated by a woman that doesn't belong in the service industry. And then it went downhill from there. Back to the 'never again'. The place needs a management and staff house cleaning to rid themselves of management and staff that are simply uncaring, who have forgotten what fine dining service means and who there customers are. There are now several other very fine restaurants in the C'ville area that are much finer. Go there.
Fossett's is in a beautiful setting at Keswick Hall, and perfect for a very nice evening of fine dining. The sommelier did an excellent job selecting a a rose champagne which I requested prior to arriving so that it would waiting for us at the table.
We just moved into Keswick Estates and celebrated at Fosetts. It was amazing! The rack of lamb was one of the best I've ever had. And the key lime desert was very creative as well as tasty. But, what made the evening really special was Melissa, The Maitre D. She was exceptional. Her attentiveness, warmth, command of hospitality was exceptional. She controlled the room with style and made us feel welcomed into the family of Keswick Hall!
We ate at Fossetts twice during our stay at Keswick Hall. The first time was excellent. The food and service were spot on. The second evening was disappointing. Service was slow, our food was not warm, and the staff seemed very young and inexperienced. It was more crowded on the second night, perhaps they were short of staff.
Fossett's had absolutely great service, very attentive but also discrete. The atmosphere is elegant, and widely-spaced tables made for easy conversation. The food was quite good, but fairly expensive, and the portions are on the small side. Overall, however, we were very pleased to celebrate a wedding anniversary here. We live locally, and it seems that Fossett's is often unfortunately overlooked as an option for fine dining in the area. We will be back and will recommend it to our friends.
We enjoyed our Valentine's buffet lunch, with two exceptions:
The bread basket was brought to the table, but there were no bread and butter plates as part of the table setting. True, we could have asked for those but we just made do.
When we asked for coffee, it was served, but there were no spoons on the table. Yes, again we could have asked but the wait staff had become very busy with more lunch guests arriving, so rather then waiting to catch their attention and have the coffee get cold, we stirred with our knives.
Keswick is known to be such an elegant dining destination, I would have thought that the tables would have been set with a complete set of silverware, spoons included - along with bread and butter plates.
Other than that, the food was outstanding and the venue stunning.
A little pretentious for us. Maybe save for a really special occasion. Service almost overdone although staff is well trained and pleasant.
Our visit and not outlast! Brunch was excellent and our server, Isaiah, was very personable and made great recommendations. Lovely setting at Keswick Hall.
Wonderful dinner! Excellent service! Thoroughly enjoyed it!
This is a very posh very nice restaurant which is inside a very upscale private club. The restaurant is open to the public and apparently has a beautiful view. We were there after dark so didn't see the view but the food was delicious and I am sure we will come back again. The dessert were a delight and it was fun to try and figure out what all of the ingredients were in each item. We really enjoyed our evening.
This was our first visit to Fossett's, which we'd heard about for years. It is located in the beautiful Keswick Hall. We went during our local Restaurant Week, where participating restaurants craft a limited menu for a set price, donating a portion to our Food Bank. So this was probably not their normal range of entrees. I wanted the halibut, which ran out right as we were ordering it. So we all ordered short ribs - not what I would normally order. It came in the form of a pot roast, very tender and rich. The dessert I ordered was delicious - Eggnog Bavarian, which was a piece of gingerbread with a little eggnog mousse. The service is phenomenal, and the ambiance is comfortable, a little on the formal side with bright lighting and white table cloths.
With so many dining options in the area, it's easy to forget about Fossett's--an easy drive west of Charlottesville. For the prices and the quality of food, I consider it a "best value" among the many over-priced restaurants downtown. The wait staff is actually trained and perfect in their attention and professionalism. The manager came over to greet us and check on our experience. The menu is creative and classy and portions are as expected: not huge, not tiny tapas. Haddock was divine. Short ribs were so good I had to steal a bite from my husband in order to taste. One of the biggest surprises was the great wine list: a fine range of choices under $45. We have spent considerably more for considerably less and will certainly be back.
