Fabulous food and service.
One of our favorite restaurants! We ordered and ended up splitting everything basically cuz we couldn't decide on one each.
The pork chop and the striped bass specials were to die for. The scallops from the winter menu were moist with crisp edges, sweet and delicious.
Worth every penny.
Giving Thanks...for Fortify's Cuisine...and Courage!
All would agree that the Year 2020 - Covid, Masks, Protocols, Social Distancing - does not elicit sentiments of gratitude. On the flip side we (and I know we are joined by many others), on the cusp of Thanksgiving, are extremely thank-full for Fortify's determination to endure as an oasis of creative cuisine amidst the pandemic desert. (Long, carrying on sentence, yes...wordiness earned by Jack, Jamie and the Team.)
Our choices this interlude included a superlative sea bass and chop grilled and seasoned to pork-fection. Consistency, defined! Add in the usual dose of hospitality embodied by Jeremy, Joey, Bailey and the rest of the staff, and you end up with an experience that puts the Curse of Covid a million miles away.
As we all hit the homestretch of a forgettable 2020, we are grateful for a bright spot called Fortify. May all that Fortify has done to meet and overcome this year's challenges be rewarded with a more stable 2021. Fingers, forks and knives crossed!
It was just as well distanced as we hoped and servers were all in masks. This is paramount in my age group these days!
Good was great treat too!
I've had great meals there before but this time, my friends thought the food was only ok. Atmosphere and service were dull, largely due to covid.
Amazing Caesar salad !!!!!
Everything was so delicious!!!
Really the best restaurant in Clayton. Had dinner at fortipi the night before. Both are excellent. The manager was amazing at fortify definitely made it a better experience. Can’t recommend enough. A definite do not miss
This is one of the BEST restaurants in NE Georgia, maybe all of Georgia! Never disappointed, compliments to the chef!
Great food, friendly and knowledgeable staff made an excellent evening
Food and service were wonderful.
Jeremy is always a fabulous manager and does such a great job. Joey was a fabulous server and added a lot to our great night. Such a great personality.
Fortify exceeded our expectations. The food was excellent and the prices were fair. I would highly recommend Fortify.
I have been at this restaurant many many times in as always it is excellent. Joey was our server and was phenomenal.
Consistency of cuisine and hospitality, combined with a superb and friendly wait staff made for yet another OUTSTANDING evening at Fortify. My wife gave A+ to the Pompano; my pork chop would have Fred Flintstone salivating. Bravo, Jack, Jamie and team!
If in Clayton, GA, a must place to eat dinner. The grit dinner was amazing. Great service, best to make a reservation.
Best place to eat in Clayton, GA. Food is always delicious, staff is great and ambiance is wonderful.
My husband and I love Clayton and have been waiting to try Fortify. It was a fantastic meal and lovely experience overall. There are many GF options but I do wish there were more dairy free options. However, our waiter was very helpful and answered all my questions about ingredients (which can be so annoying, I know). The lighting and ambience were very nice as well. We will be back.
We had a wonderful meal and great waiter (Joey). Nice bottle of wine, several cocktails and four different entrees....Lamb shank, wagu steak, lamb and fish special...everyone had a clean plate....you tell me how delicious it was.
The food is outstanding. Exceeded expectations. We had the pork cheek appetizer, and lamb and chicken entrees. Everything was fresh, flavorful, expertly cooked and perfectly seasoned. Nice atmosphere. Our server was just ok - we saw the table next to us get better, more attentive service with a different server so it’s not a problem with the restaurant overall. Maybe an off night, who knows? Would still highly recommend this restaurant!
Such a wonderful restaurant to find in little Clayton. Our third time there and have never been disappointed. Great food and excellent service. Love the atmosphere.
Dinner at Fortify was outstanding!
The food was excellent paired with first class service! Best restaurant in Clayton!!
The food was delicious. The scallops were perfectly cooked, almost creamy when you ate them. The filet mignon melted in your mouth. The clams, I would definitely order again. All the side were so tasty. It took awhile for the waiter to get to us, and the service was slightly lacking, but the manager was walking around and started talking to us, and completely erased our doubts on the service. The food was a bit over priced, but not so much that I wouldn't eat there again. I would definitely recommend this place, as I already have to a few folks.
Really excellent all around. The Fried Green Tomatoes with Shrimp served a more than ample entree. Paired with the cheese grits they were fantastic. My wife had the Butternut squash soup and Caesar Salad. The soup was thick and creamy with a hint of maple. A bit thick and sweet for my taste, but my wife loved it (all that matters!). Service was prompt and friendly. Masks were required and the restaurant has limited seating and no standing at the bar. This limited seating thing is bad for the restaurant, but great for patrons!
Really a gem in the old fashion downtown of Clayton. The food was outstanding as well as the service.
Joseph waited on us! The four of us had different “Suppers” and they were all delicious and beautifully presented! We shared Fried Green Tomatoes and the Monk Fish appetizers! Outstanding!!!!!
Fortify is a destination dining experience for Clayton, Georgia. A weekend or overnight trip to this scenic little town is well worth the time if you make reservations for this fantastic restaurant.
So much fun!! Service was great and so was the food! Love it!
Wonderful food, great service every single time! Definitely recommend!
What find! Our favorite restaurant. Food is outstanding, as is the service.
Everything about Fortify was LOVELY! Food was amazing and fresh! We will definitely visit again the next time we are in the area.
Just when I thought I had out-extolled the virtues of Fortify, along comes Peter W. with a thorough and thoughtful analysis. We returned on Halloween and before anything else had to ask Joey…Joe…Joseph…”are you the clone of clones…or the regular Joey we have known for 3+ years?” Bedecked in an ersatz banana skin attire (costumed staff throughout), J (to keep it simple going forward) was not aware of the GLOWING (as in he ‘should be cloned to every restaurant in America’!) review. We recited word by word. He immediately indicated he was going to ask for a raise. Smart guy!
That aside…Jack and Jamie had yet another challenge this week…as if they needed more (see Curse of covid). Most of north Georgia lost power for 1-2-3-4 days. Fortify was not excluded. Fast brain cell awakening on Jack’s part remembered he had a go-to to store $$$ of assorted meats, seafood, et al…and was able to salvage all and open for business. Close call!
Clone J (or was it him?) had our table set and we as always enjoyed the breadstick bouquet with cheese spread as ample starter. My wife decided on the snapper special and gave it A+. My “EOTS” (everything on the side) pork chop was prepared to spec. Extra kudos to Abraham for bringing Porky out at its flavor-full best.
Heath and safety protocols, table spacing correct. I will keep repeating — if you are looking for a place, a setting, an enclave of pure gustatory enjoyment…Mask up and get to Fortify.
The restaurant was closed due to a power outage nether restaurant nor opentable bothered to notify us and we traveled 40 miles one way to find it closed. Since you are able to send me this email why were you not able to inform me that the restaurant was closed?
Food and service was excellent!!
The entrees were very disappointing. We had eaten there 2 times in the past and those times the food was exceptional. Hope it was just a bad night
Excellent! Fried green tomatoes were a bit hard, but that’s in the tomato!
Shrimp and grits were mighty tasty!
Great place food good service good too!
Flavor was bland, everything needed salt. Not enough value on the plate
Had a reservation, seated 15 minutes before server came to table. All 4 ordered cocktails and all 4 said they weren't good. Food not very hot when it came out. I was very disappointed this time-of course it's the time we had guests from out of town :/
Thoughtful, stellar food perfectly prepared. Must try the Gouda bites. The scallops and the stuffed chicken were so flavorful and perfectly cooked. Others who had the pork chop and the trout said they were memorable dishes. Flavors were paired well together. Can't wait to go back. Service was very good, little slow from the kitchen, but well worth the wait.
It was our first time dining at Fortify.
We were sat promptly and the tables were set far enough apart for social distancing rules.
The server Danielle was very good and explained the features well.
The fritters were cooked to perfection. The butternut squash soup was delicious and not overly sweet.
The fried green tomatoes however were not a hit The tomatoes were not cooked well. They were still crunchy. The cornmeal was course and when you chew it was too hard of a texture.
Please consider using a fine textured cornmeal instead. Either the oil was old that they were fried in or the temperature was too high.
The tomatoes also were way too salty. Too much grits as well. The sauce was just thrown on the plate without being wiped off the edges.
Moving on... My scallops were pan seared to a nice carmelization brown and melted like butter in your mouth. Not sure what was on top of my scallops. It wasn't sauteed onions, maybe it was geen cabbage. It wasn't on the menu description.
The trout was in need of some improvement. Salt, pepper, something to give it some flavor. Sorry but I sent it back.
Overall,, It was a very nice place and I would dine there again in the future.
