OpenTable Diner (New York Area)

I should have got the clue that it wasn't the right choice for a family Mother's Day dinner when we calked to see if anything other than a burger was available for kids and was told that the menu is not really child friendly.
That said the meal was good but nothing special and personally for me felt overpriced for what I received.

Fort D is one of the reasons Red Hook is such a great place to live (and visit).

Rarely in Red Hook so took the opportunity to visit this local eatery. Nice neighborhood vibe, friendly and cozy. Well-prepared dishes, generous portion size. Excellent lentil soup and scallops, skirt steak and Ceasar salad also quite good. Limited menu but a lot of care it put into what is offered. Reasonable prices as well.

We ate here because it was close to Pioneer Works and a friend recommended it. The food was okay, but I thought considering what rents are in Red Hook, it was somewhat overpriced. Did not seem to scare away patrons however. They were quite busy for a Wednesday night.

Everything was great...except for the beer selection which was limited and of poor quality.

Everything was perfect except the main course of noodles were lacking in veggies which made it unbalanced.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn. Despite the surging hipness happening in Red Hook this restaurant remains a local hangout.

I've been to Ft. Defiance many times, most often for a late lunch on a weekday, but also on weekday, Friday and Sunday evenings. Last Saturday, it was already noisy and well-occupied by 5:30 when the kitchen opened. I reserved a table for 5 at 5:30, with a special request for seating by the front window. This may be impossible to adhere to on a Saturday evening. The interior table wasn't bad, but the increasingly raucus crowd echoed more loudly than it might have by the window. In spite of a very full house, service was exemplary, the burgers highly praised by the first-time guests, the asparagus made the non-red meat crowd happy, and the stellar chocolate pudding with hazelnut brittle happily devoured by all. But probably won't try a Saturday night again.

Went for their Wednesday oyster special and was not disappointed. Great service and good selection of beer to go the oysters. What else would you want?

Went here for a night out with the husband, it happened to be burger night . Great burger, wonderful wine list. Nice neighborhood spot with some sweet brooklyn families.

Fort Defiance continues to be one of my favorite spots in Brooklyn. I'm so jealous that my brother and his family live almost across the street! The wine list is great, the cocktails are innovative and delicious, the food never disappoints, and Monday Burger Night and Wednesday Oysters and Muscadet are the best! I wish I had a Fort in my hood!

I had (wrongly, it turns out) presumed Fort Defiance was going to be a typical Brooklyn Bar (a bit scruffy, loud, lots of bearded guys, many beer choices, nice but incompetent waiters) but it is in fact a lovely, very well decorated, moderately noisy (not too bad) restaurant, cozy inside, wonderful lighting, excellent service, good food (portions on the smallish side but not bad), with a bunch of (cute) bearded guys.

This is a place that needs a revisit again and again like it's your dining room. The food is so uncomplicated it entice your taste buds for more. The risotto with the toasted pistachios is excellent so is the Bronzino. And the cocktails are so potent its buzz lingers on thru out the meal.

We asked for dietary modification and they were gracious and the risotto was delis as was the lentil soup. Cozy, friendly vibe, limited variety but what we had was very nice.

The burger I had was tasty. We were seated next to a window which was wide open and it was a chilly night. We weren't able to close it because there was someone dining on the window sill from the outside. If you're a hipster, this is probably the place for you. Not so much for me.
