First time here. The food was very good with generous portions. Some meals are a little pricey, but when ordering lobster or a tomahawk steak that can be expected. It was quiet initially, but as the place filled up it got pretty noisy. If you want a quiet environment, dine early. Wait staff very attentive. Desserts are delicious, too.
This restaurant is a gem. My husband and I dined there for the first time during Restaurant Week and had a truly outstanding dinner. The dining room provides a lovely setting, open but intimate. The staff is attentive but not intrusive. The quality of the food preparation is exceptional. We will definitely be back.
Very well staffed with experienced waiters. Great service. Food reliably good. Parking on street a bit hit or miss. Great for eating before flying from EWR.
Had a meeting with 5 people. Wait staff was patient with us and only came by when necessary. Food was served in a timely fashion and everyone enjoyed their meal.
I will be back for business and with friends.
We've been going here for 30 years and absolutely love it just like we did in the beginning. No need to try anywhere else. As soon as you sit down they start feeding you! The red Sangria is amazing. The seafood is delicious especially the sea bass. Chorizo and stuffed artichokes are our favorite appetizers.
Fabulous Food, Service and ambiance! We will definitely be back.
Try the Pulpo Feria and the Oxtail. Outrageous. We also had the house red, which was delicious.
Great food & service... Prawns were out of this world... thought wines were pricey and not very good
Very good food
Food incredible. The server was great. With a team of people serving you, it is curious to see who your server really is
We have been to Fornos many times. Best food & service in Newark.
Excellent food
The food is excellent but the service is outstanding! Always a great choice
Awesome! Best restaurant for a special night out!
I live over 60 mIles away and would happily drive an added 60 to eat here. The food is just amazing and the service is just as good.
I walked out
I love Forno's. Can't remember how many times I've been. And I keep going back. Why do I always have shrimp in garlic sauce? Because it's so good. Huge portions. Others with me loved the food as well. The salad and sides that come with all meals makes for a lot of food. Excellent Sangria as well. I'll be back again.
I have been going to Fornos for well over twenty years, and it still is as always, excellent food, outstanding service.
Had a great meal with matching service. Made my birthday more enjoyable.
Do not be drawn in by favorable reviews on trip advisor if good Spanish food is what you’re looking for. This restaurant has a unique ambience and style but Caters is for people who value volume over quality.
Tapas portions are in Normas are huge and chorizo that we had was dried up already sliced and tasteless. Far too meaty with very little moist fat inside. The prawns were but little shrimps.but plenty of them.
Portions were absolutely huge but the food was simply not Spanish. Waiter service was very good but somewhat clueless about the dishes.
American waiters tend to give you their opinion about their favorite dish but do not always know about the cooking.
If you just want A huge steak then this is the place for you. It is far from authentic and I would not recommend it for anybody that wants anywhere approaching typical Spanish kitchen.
Excellent fresh paella, wonderful experience
Food was very good and plentiful. They gave us free salad course to start and lots of bread. Entrees are very big especially paella. I would definitely go back. Lively place
Great quality food & service
This was a random choice that happened to be on our route. We were looking for a nice restaurant -- it turned out that Forno was a great find. This is a very warm environment with very professional servers, a great menu, and great food.
We loved the seafood mariscada, the salad (included), cod croquettes, and garlic shrimp. Overall, a place we will return to (it's 90 minutes from our home).
Fornos has always been the place for Spanish food & ambiance! However, lately the food quality and seasoning has been off. I have asked the staff if there any changes to the kitchen staff? The response is no...
Fornos needs to stop this slippery slope immediately! Or you will become like the many less appetizing places on Ferry St. We are by- weekly visitors to Fornos; after 3 disappointing dinners; we have no intention of going back.
I thank the bar staff for the many times they have taken care of us; they are not at fault for what the kitchen produces!
To management, please take a review of what the kitchen staff is doing! We regulars know the quality and authenticity of the food! You have no reason to become mediocre and expensive!
Cheers!
I’m usually a very big fan of fornos. Tonight’s experience, the service was not up to par, and the food was medium at best. I will definitely try the place again, but this visit was not their best efforts.
No longer the great restaurant that I was accustomed to. Appears to have different management but not 100% sure. Portions considerably smaller, quality not as good , and service just not the same. The menu has totally changed. They do take readying open table now. Why mess with success????
Huge steak - we’ll at least they wanted it to look that way. WAY too huge and half of it was fat , much of which should have beeN trimmed before cooking. Supposed to be medium but it ws RAW in the middle. Vegetables on the side were ice cold. Main courses took forever to come out. Glass of wine costs a small fortune. Will not be back.
I was a 2-3 times a week patron here. Alas, need to give it a break. I first thought it was "familiarity leads to contempt" until friends and fellow patrons chimed in that they too have had multiple bad experiences.
Fornos used to go that extra mile, adding details to traditional dishes (like chestnut puree with the steak), super fresh vegetable etc. Now it's a plate of mash with protein set on top with sides of rice and chips. My last meal of black and blue steak was simply inedible! Poor cut of meat! My previous couple entrees were simply flavorless. One might not mind, but their price point is $$..
My plan was to, in future, have tapas only. Fine except even my dinning guests remarked that the bar tender/server was treating me differently that others; to the point of saying 2 of my favorite after dinner whiskeys were unavailable. Funny another server found a bottle with no trouble.
Yes, Luis and Andreas It was noticed
Everything about Fornos was tremendous, the portions of food great, and all went great, EXCEPT- we could not finish our portions. We asked the waiter to wrap up the remaining food so that we could take it home. The bag contained only the meat part- he had failed to include a sizable amount of Spanish rice, and the vegetables. We were very disappointed.
I have been a customer for 12 yrs since September I have noticed some changes and not necessarily for the best. The prices have increased ( inflation, I understand) . However last night I was asked if I wanted a bow or a cup for my soup and I asked for a bowl and I was given what it looks like the size of an 8onz cup of coffee and was told that that was a bowl!!! I was so confused!
My waiter came to my table 2 Times, to take my order and to bring the check, when I expressed my disappointment his response was, “ things have changed for 3 month now”.
I truly love this place but I’m not sure if I will continue to go.
Never disappoints. Had reservations for new years day. Service was top notch, food was outstanding. Great night out with the family.
As always, the service was impeccable and the food phenomenal. It is impossible to say enough good things about this restaurant!
Amazing food amazing place! Everything was perfect from beginning to end. Waiters were on point. Food was perfect cooked.
Best dining experience all around!
Food and service was excellent. Hadn't been there in years and it was even better than I remembered it. Hope to visit again soon.
The food was amazing. We ate here before the Transiberian Orchestra at Prudential Center, was a quick walk from there and none of us were disappointed. The halibut was delicious as was the paella. The stuffed scallops were tasty but our two favorites of the night were the sangria and the Belgium chocolate mousse. We would eat here again in a heartbeat! PS the staff was attentive and very welcoming, explained the large waiting line when we were leaving.
The food was amazing. I thought the sangria was a bit pricey $14.95 for a small glass mostly ice and fruit. $29 for 1/2 pitcher. Portions were tremendous even the boys couldn’t finish. We went to a hockey game and they got us in and out in perfect time ! Worked out great ! All around great experience! Definitely would recommend .
First time and was very happy with the service and meal.
Fornos has been one of my favorite restaurants in the Ironbound - fantastic food, great servers - Highly recommend .
The lunch was delicious.. Large portions and very authentic. The service was very attentive to our needs.
