About Forno Vecchio Restaurant

Forno Vecchio is a restaurant in San Francisco, California that serves authentic Italian cuisine. At Forno Vecchio, the emphasis is on fresh ingredients prepared well. All of the pasta, bread, and desserts are all made in-house by the Forno Vecchio chef and kitchen staff. Since everything is made from scratch, Forno Vecchio has the unique ability to accommodate any kind of food allergies or dietary restrictions guests might have.

In addition to classic Italian dishes, Forno Vecchio isn't afraid to experiment. The pineapple bruschetta is a slightly sweeter take on a classic and the spicy shrimp over squid ink risotto, and has an incredibly striking appearance to go with its bold flavors. Forno Vecchio is also a participant in the Pleasanton Street Fair, which happens the first Wednesday of every month. Here, Forno Vecchio serves small plate portions of its best dishes.

Pear soup with Gorgonzola and bacon?!!!Jason the chef crushed every entree! Halibut on risotto with pomegranate reduction sauce! You will come away with new ideas to try in your own kitchen and keep coming back to the cathedral for more tasty inspiration.

The staff makes your party feel like you are at home. All the pasta and sauces are made in the restaurant, and, are terrific. Try the Chicken Parmesan....excellent. The crisp brussell sprouts salad are the greatest. Good reasonably priced wine list.

We were house hunting in the area and found this via Open Table. The staff was ver nice, the owner greeted us soon after we sat down, she told us how they are know for their home made pasta, bread and desserts. Wine was priced very reasonably. We started with the crispy Brussel sprouts...wow! Excellent. My wife had the lasagna and I had the Bolognese, both were excellent. The owner came back and found out we were looking to relocate, she called her husband to ask him about the commute to San Jose from Pleasanton for us and gave us so much information. Overall we were both impressed with the food and the attentiveness of the staff. Excellent on all accounts!

I had eggplant parm served with mushy pasta. While the eggplant was hot, the cheese for the parm was cold and not melted. My wife's salmon salad was non description and tasteless.

Since Forno Vecchio opened, I have always enjoyed every dining experience with family and friends. Given any opportunity, I highly recommended Forno Vecchio.

Saturday Evening Was Surprisingly Disappointing. I can't recommend Forno Vecchio this time.

While we were warmly greeted, the service was mostly MIA (Missing In Action) throughout the evening. We spent more time waiting for our drinks and food than actually consuming our drinks and food. Appeared the larger tables were receiving the greatest attention.

My dining partner and I intended to share the Calamari as one of our appetizers. We were both shocked when it was delivered. We laughed because we thought it was a joke. This Calamari now holds the "World Record" for the smallest plate of Calamari ever served, not even enough for a hungry child. The unexpected hot spice also overwhelmed the 9 lonely Calamari.

My dining partner ordered the Skirt Steak which she liked. My Salmon was over-cooked and extremely dry. Pleasant memories of past dining experiences here kept me from returning it.

When asked about this dining experience, I did comment to the Owner.

To culminate the evening, the server dropped my used fork on me, staining my suit.

The Wonderful Ambiance of Forno Vecchio was overshadowed by poor service and less than satisfying food.

Went out for dinner and this used to be a good place. The service was slow and the food was not what we were used to. Then we heard it was under new management/ownership. That sort of explained the experience. They seemed short staffed and the food was served cold. Will be quite awhile before we try this place again.

The roasted rack of lamb with risotto and french green beans I ordered for dinner was prepared perfectly and tasted great. Nothing was left on my plate. The apple tart with gelato dessert was tremendous. Our server, Saya, was very friendly and attentive. Forno Vecchio is highly recommended.

Despite veing short staffed, we were seated at our reserved table on time and greeted by the owner. Our salads were yummy but my steak was overdone. The desserts were also yummy. We shared two of them and liked them both.

We visited Forno Vecchio last September to celebrate a birthday and had an amazing time. Made the decision to come back for our wedding anniversary and it was just not the same. We even asked if ownership was the same. They did accommodate our wanting to split two entrees, which was nice, but the second one - steak - arrived cold. We asked for bread a couple times and they said, "its in the oven" shouldnt you know when the bread is running short? Ours arrived at the end of the meal instead of with our salads. With no follow up we couldn't comment on the cold steak till after the meal was gone. They comped a dessert, unsure if that's as to say I'm sorry for cold dinners...or because we were celebrating a special occasion. We will watch the reviews and if consistently good we will return. Maybe it was an off night? Owner was not there. Travis, our previous server was not there. We will ask More questions before making another reservation.

This was my first time at this restaurant. My friend and I both had the salmon salad. Very tasty. Salmon was cooked just right. Dressing was light and perfect. The strawberries and cucumbers were very good complements. Really enjoyed the foccacia bread with herbed olive oil dip.

Server was very attentive and personable. Great overall experience. I would definitely return - and have the same dish again. Highly recommend.

Nice menu variety. The service was excellent (and a Friday night at that). The Pear and Goat Cheese Crostini was to die for. The Tomato Bruschetta was very good as well. The Grilled Halibut with Sweet Corn Risotto was so outstanding that I wanted to lick the plate. Here is my only complaint. The piece of Halibut that I was served was quite small. At $25 for the entree I would expect a full serving. Other than that our experience was very nice. I would definitely recommend Forno Vecchico.

We have frequented Forno Vecchio, especially at lunch time. It is not too crowded at lunch, so easy to get a table and it is on the quiet side, so very nice to have a conversation. Food is always consistent and very good.

It had been a few months since our last visit, but Forno Vecchio is still a neighborhood gem and even has a new expanded menu. The same long-time entrees remain, but there are many new choices for entrees, appetizers, and sides. It's also good to see that specialness of this place is catching on, because it is definitely busier these days. Our group of 4 shared the new brussels sprouts appetizer, even the 1 of us that traditionally does not like them; I had the Grilled BLT salad, which included grilled romaine lettuce, pancetta bits, grape tomatoes, and gorgonzola dressing, creatively presented on a wood board. Our entrees were the lasagna (same long-time recipe with bechamel sauce), filo wrapped salmon, grilled halibut with risotto, and fettuccine bolognese. All were great, but the group agreed the lasagna ruled once again. Still love this place.

This charming Italian restaurant has the best eggplant Parmesan I have every tasted, food is made fresh, it is a delightful atmosphere, large portions, and a wonderful wine list. The service is also outstanding, and the atmosphere reminds me of being in a family restaurant in Italy.

SLOW , SLOW service. Waitress might have been new. Sub par gnocchi, bruschetta. FILO salmon dry. Squid ink risotto good. Waited and waited for coffee. Desserts (Brulee;lava cake)were good but not memorable. Large party next to us interfered with our service and increased the noise level significantly. Overall: not a good experience. Will not return.

We had a very pleasant experience at Forno Vecchio. The service was excellent and the food was very good. I ordered the halibut and it was done perfectly. My husband raved about the fettuccine alfredo. We especially enjoyed visiting with the hostess (owner) and plan to return when we are in town.

A very good dining experience. Perhaps not the most enticing/intimate facility/decor, but this restaurant makes up for it with the quality of both food and service. Menu somewhat limited, but the focus ins reflected in the preparation and taste. Salads quite good. Will dine here again.

How can one not enjoy a delightful greeting by an 87 year old Nonna who is totally engaged in serving some outstanding meals to her guests. That is what Forno Vecchio is all about. Not only is Nonna a delight but her daughter and her grandson are also delightful. They took care of our every need, served us wonderful food, recommended new dishes we had never tried and when the bill came I was shocked at how reasonably we had dined and had all courses. My only recommendation is to figure out the noise level that comes when you have a large group seated near you. Maybe putting a table of 10 in the front window area and out of the way would be a solution. When they left the noise level went back to reasonable.

The meatball appetizer I rate as a 10, samon wrap a 10, lamb chops a 10, short ribs and pasta a 10. Looking forward to going back.

We had never h dined at Forno Vecchio Restaurant. We do not get to Pleasanton often. Big mistake!
We were meeting a friend half way between Milpitas and Danville. I had multiple Pleasanton Restaurant reviews before deciding on this quaint, charming restaurant. We were not disappointed. The restaurant does not have hard liquor, but their wine selection was very good. Food outstanding and attention to plate presentation was better than most very expensive restaurants . They offer a myriad of a of selections. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan - that was prepared correctly,. My spouse had their Halibut and he really enjoyed it . Our Guest had the Salmon in Filo. It was prepared perfectly.
The food is prepared with Love. This is a family run restaurant and their 87 year old Grandmther puts my Grandkids in th dust with her energy. The owner stopped by and was very courteous and attentive.

We had 5:45 reservations for dinner. Was quiet "til after about 6:30 when more people came in. Jana, the owner came over & greeted us, Travis, her son, was our server. They have been there about 4 & 1/2 years. The place was a bakery and the name means "old oven". We brought in a 2007 Steven Kent Premire Cabernet Sauvignon, a box set of three. As it was not on the wine list, so shared a glass with Jana. They had a fixed price menu listed, which had three choices that looked good, so we went for it. Very good. We will go back. We told Jana about the 1,000 point program, she will look into it. Bruce & Donna.

We ordered several appetizers and entrees; Truffle fries, Gorgonzola fries, Meatballs, Steak salad, Wedge salad and Chicken Alfredo. They were very tasty and well made. And the bread that came was toasty and almost soaked in extra virgin olive oil. Messy but tasty!! The coffee was brewed freshly on the espresso machine. With a glass of Prosecco cocktail, the bill came to $72. Not bad for all the food for 3 people.

We were there for lunch on rainy Saturday so the place was almost empty but the staff were friendly and attentive. Seems other customers came and went looked like local customers.

We'll definitely come again.

Six of us had dinner at this wonderful restaurant last Saturday night. All six entrees were awesome. I personally had the Braised Short Ribs with Pappardelle pasta, cherry tomatoes &
mushrooms and it was OUTSTANDING! My wedge salad was also very good along with their bread and olive oil/herb dip. The owner greeted us upon our arrival and was adorable. Our waiter was attentive and very accommodating. I met the owner's Mom who was also very sweet and friendly. The setting was nothing too exciting, but felt homey. I have now recommended this restaurant to friends and family and told them I was sure they wouldn't be disappointed. Neighborhood gem!

We went for my birthday. This place is quite the little gem. The service was excellent. These people clearly enjoy customers and pride of the restaurant shows in everything they say. The place was impeccably clean, not cluttered as you sometimes find in small restaurants. The place was pretty full but it was still quiet. The decor is formal, cloth tablecloths (no paper placed over the top). They treated my toddler like a princess (she's accustom to dining out). There were two other children there (very well-behaved). I heard one of the boys say that he wanted to come back for his birthday.

I had the chicken marsala which is prepared with pancetta. YUM!!! The marsala "gravy" was light and the chicken full of herbs. All the flavors blended so wonderfully together. My husband ordered the squid ink risotto with prawns. He enjoyed his as well. My teenage son ordered the chicken parmesan which was a huge serving. We were too full for dessert (rare). My toddler had the Kid's spaghetti which she really liked. She also had the pumpkin gelato. I had a taste as well and we both agreed that it was a winner.

This was a great local find. We will definitely be returning.
