Created as a nod to the owner’s grandmother, guests will experience an array of dishes from house-made pastas, seasonal antipasti and wood-fired fish and steak. At Formento’s, Chef Todd Stein combines new world culinary creativity with generations past. Our world-class wine program offers guests more than 300 varietals from around world. Wonderful service, and the food was absolutely delicious! We ordered butcher steak, canestri, bucatini, and Brussels sprouts, and all of it was excellent. We will definitely be back!

We had a really nice birthday! Food was delicious! We loved the meatballs, bucatini, polenta and kale salad. The desserts were delicious as well- gelatos but one very small scoop. Portions, unfortunately, were very small, too. They could be a little more generous. The prices for drinks weren’t shown either. Moscow Mule $15, Rose $15.

The ambiance and food were wonderful. The restaurant was very crowded, which is expected for a Saturday night. It is very loud so not recommended if your party wants a more quiet, conversation friendly environment. I would go back but perhaps on a week night

The food was out of this world and the staff was attentive, but didn’t seem super friendly. The Veal Parmesan and squid ink pasta dish were both both incredible, and the Chocolate Cake for dessert is not to be missed. We will definitely come back the next time we are in town, but for the food - not the staff.

Overall it was okay. Service and place were nice. Have been twice before. Was completely underwhelmed by the food. It’s was below satisfactory in all departments other then then a couple of apps. Ribeye in the end was beyond fatty and chewy. Pasta was bland and undoubtedly left the lemon out of the lemon butter sauce. Noodles were just stacked like a bland noodle lasagna. Scallops were okay, not great.

I’m not one to typically comment and eat out often and all over the west loop. This occasion just left a sour taste and experience for the $300.00 + tip price tag.

Our server was very nice, but was constantly interrupting our conversation. We were perfectly satisfied with the food and drinks that we ordered. My guest and I were enjoying our conversation immensely and yet the server repeatedly would awkwardly stand at our table until we stopped talking so she could ask if she could get us anything. Perhaps people want different things from restaurant service, but we were interrupted so often it just felt awkward. If the restaurant were busy and they wanted to turn the table I might understand it, I would think it was rude, but I would understand it, but the place was empty on a Tuesday. All a server needs to do is walk through the room with their head up and give people the opportunity to get their attention, interrupting you every 5 minutes is unnecessary and detracts from the experience of enjoying the restaurant and the company. Maybe there is a polite way to ask to be left alone, but we couldn't come up with it. All that said, she was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine pairings. Really was a fine experience over all, just wish we could have been left alone. Food was great.

Formento's is a high-quality restaurant with a very welcoming staff and delicious food. The pistachio and kale pesto pasta was the highlight of our meal, and the chocolate cake is absolutely world-class. It was a fantastic restaurant for our anniversary, amd we cannot wait to return.

There were a couple problems I had with the dining experience. The reservations were made months in advance and we still had to wait to be seated because the restaurant wanted to maximize its occupancy. In the same vein, the seating was exceeding crowded. Other patrons were literally sitting in our laps. A romantic night with a loved one turned into family seating with strangers. Specifically, our table was unduly long & narrow such that I was closer to other patrons than my date which didn’t allow for any intimacy or privacy. I understand that Valentine’s Day is a busy night. However, a restaurant shouldn’t change the dining experience from one of intimacy to livestock jammed in at the trough to maximize profits. Consequently, my experience was soured.

My fiancee and I ate here on a busy Valentine's Saturday. We ate here a year or so earlier and we really enjoyed it.

The food was as good as I remember, fresh quality ingredients well prepared. Who knew cauliflower could taste so good?

Our waiter was very nice and was clearly doing his best but a bit overwhelmed with how packed the restaurant was. The small entranceway by the host desk was *very* crowded when we arrived and again when we went to get our coats.

We will definitely go back, but probably not on such a popular night.

We had a reservation at 6:30 and were not seated until 7:10. While waiting to be seated there was absolutely no where to wait. After snagging a seat at the bar the bartender ignored us. Once we got their attention they would not take our order and told us they they had to finish making other drinks first which took atleast another 10 minutes. When asking the hostess for an update on how much longer it might be they told us "we will get you when your table is ready" and then ignored us without try to give an update or answering the question. After being seated we didn't see our waiter or get bread, etc for another 10 minutes. Upon ordering we were told certain items were not available, so after placing are original order the waiter came back later and told us they were available and we had to change our order, which by this point we were obviously quite hungry. Overall not a good value/exerpeince for the price point, the service was extremely lack luster.

They set up a area upstairs that is some kind of event space. The furniture was cheap and clearly temporary, the whole tabletop kept swiveling while trying to eat. Food was very small portions and not that great. Especially when you’re paying the high prices they have on their menu. Waiter was visibly irritated that we didn’t order dessert or any additional drinks and this was after he never checked in on us.

We made a reservation close to a month before but we ended up seated in the bar area, right near the entrance. The majority of our evening was spent with people lingering immediately in front of our table. The food was fine (good but nothing to rave about), the service was decent. Just not ideal to spend most of your meal with people pressed up to your table! I'm not sure if we were sat there because we were a little late for our reservation, but I'd recommend when making reservations you specify you'd like to sit in the dining room.

I had an enjoyable experience. The service was good and the lighting was soft and cozy. For starters, the meat balls were very good. We had the Veal Parmesan, it was prepared to perfection and the Brick Chicken, which my wife said was seasoned well but not as moist as expected. The side dish of Brussels Sprouts was also very good. I will return and try other dishes as well as recommend this establishment to others.

Great place! Restaurant week menu was great. The only thing i would change is the portions were small and felt that they scaled back the size of platings. Customers notice things like that, however we had a great experience, and the service was top notch! We were celebrating my birthday, and they brought dessert for my friend, and I to share. I believe our server was Jason, or Jared, great service!

Everything was perfect! The only reason why it was not 5 stars is because my fiancé’s steak was purple and definitely not cooked enough. Everyone else’s steak was great. The meatballs were to die for!
