Enjoyed my experience there! Was a great dinner outing celebrating a loved ones birthday. Food was great and the vibe was nice! Great, friendly staff.

Great service and food

Our dinner reservation was at 6:45 PM and wasn't seated until after 7:00 PM. We stood by the host stand for approx. 20 minutes. Many others were waiting as well so it was crowded, awkward, and uncomfortable especially during these COVID times when social distancing is important.
Positive note- Once we were seated, we had a great spot by the windows and the food was good. The brussel sprouts and octopus were delicious.

Formento’s was a great dining experience. We had the meatballs and whipped ricotta to start. Both were delicious. The meatballs were outstanding. For entrees, we had the carbonara bucatini and the scallops. They were excellent. The scallops were seared perfectly and were seriously the largest scallops I’ve ever seen. For dessert, they sent us home with some complimentary chocolate cake for our anniversary. It was incredible and so thoughtful! Formento’s service is always top notch and they go above and beyond. I will be back even just for that tasty chocolate cake!

Wait staff was very professional and helpful. Drinks were appropriately priced.
We ordered two of the smaller sized pastas and upgraded to the full size. The Agnolotti was very uneventful, bland and didn't have all of the ingredients the waiter specifically said it had. For the extra price, this was a waste of money and a disappointment; we expected more from this restaurant.
Service was slow and a bit uneven. We figured this was because of adjusting to the post COVID customer numbers.

The food was good but the wine was expensive with small pours.

Didn't like sitting in the back room. Will request to sit in front next time.

As first timers in Chicago and first timers at the restaurant I could say the overall experience exceeded our expectations! The short rib was to die for and so was the calamari. Our waiter was extremely hospitable and had great recommendations. Def would recommend to anyone looking for a nice, quietItalian spot!

Beware of when you order pasta as a main dish- and no starter or appetizer... the price doubles, even though the portion does not. Our server did not explain this, nor does the menu indicate that there are two sizes and varying prices for the dishes. We were shocked to discover a simple carbonara (made with bucatini pasta) was $35 - and the glasses of wine are definitely under whelming. Will not be back. Compared to fine dining in NYC, this place doesn’t offer anything special, and is not worth what they are charging.

Stick to what they do best, the pasta. The cacio e pepe was perfect, but the steak, potatoes, and fried calamari were just not worth it. At that price, you could find a much better steak experience at one of Chicago's many classic steakhouses. I will say, though, if you're touting a dry-aged, painstakingly sourced piece of beef, set at a price comparable to that of say a Gibson's or a S&W's, you have an expectation. And those expectations were not met. No tasty, charred crust. Cook was spot on, a well-executed medium rare, but the steak was somewhat lukewarm. Potatoes were simply prepared, but possibly over-seasoned. And the fried calamari was fried well, but the portion size didn't really match the expectations we had when dining at a place that models its approach after a traditional red sauce Italian American joint. 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Cant go wrong, whether its a date, out with friends or with kids (we had two tweens) the menu has options for all and everything we ordered was really good. Service was friendly, no issues there at all.

The food, service and mood were all fantastic. As the weather heats up, it’s best to stay out of the outdoor “bubbles” that are set up. We felt like plants in a greenhouse because, despite it being a cool and beautiful Sunday afternoon.

The atmosphere was inviting, hostess staff was friendly and professional. the waiter was knowledgeable and offered suggestions from the menu, however he lost interest when someone from our party returned their food because the meat was dry. He didn't want to try anything else because it was late in the evening; the waiter didn't like that. The bar tender ignored us as he was delivering drinks to an adjacent table we called for him and he just walked right by us.

The waiter claimed that my party was too drunk to be served but we were sober. I’ve never had this experience at any restaurant and it was rude and inappropriate. Never going back, way to ruin my friends birthday!

Best Carbonara in town! Never disappoints.

The ambiance and food was very good.

Food was fantastic and service matched the quality of the food. You will pay a premium for dinner here, but were quite happy with our meals.

The word outstanding is overused but not in this case. Formento's is outstanding. We have only been here a few times but every time has been fantastic. This time we were entertaining our highest ranked foodie friends and gourmet cooks from Park City, UT. We wanted to take them somewhere to WOW them and Formento's did. We ordered a number of appetizers, and then shared a number of entrees and desserts. Everything was great. You can't go wrong with this menu.

This was some of the worst service I have ever experienced. Actually this was the worst... ever. The hostess was terrible, refused to check us in, seemed very confused about what her job was. She took our temp twice because she forgot? She seemed so clueless that the manager came over to help her. The manager directed us to a bar table to wait for our table. The bartender was very rude right away saying “that table isn’t first come first serve”. Luckily the manager heard this and talked to him. While asking questions about what bourbons he had he said “we have a lot” and after pressing more wouldn’t tell me the name of any. I honestly considered leaving the service was so bad but have been waiting to try this place. We finally got seated - the server was much better and the food was good. I will never return to this restaurant.

Delicious food, best Italian experience in Chicago so far.

Everything was great overall...we waited 20 minutes to be seated only to be seated on 3 two seater tables (combined) for 9 people so there were 4 people crammed onto one two seater table.

We came for restaurant week, and it was an excellent experience! The food was really good, and the service was Attentive, yet not too bothersome.

Wow 🤩 all I can say is 10/10 will be here again. Everything was phenomenal.

Not sure if we will dine at Formentos anymore..

We are both vaccinated but they were really full inside...the air purified at the table was out of batteries..

Restaurants have suffers during the pandemic but we enjoyed the tent experience more..when asking about the snow globes they asked for $200 minimum...

Didn’t enjoy the food and felt uncomfortable with how full it was..

My wife and I both work in healthcare and will not be dining here until they have a more suitable arrangement outdoors

As always the staff is great and the food was outstanding. The restaurant brought out a few dishes we didn’t order and gave us dessert for the two birthdays we were celebrating.

Served us wine at 9:30 and told us they close at 9. Felt rushed the whole time. Don't take reservations at 8:30 if u can't keep a table for dinner properly. Waitress disappeared after we put our food order in. Not worth the $ that we spent, considering the their general rush to get us out of the restaraunt. Wait staff and bus boys kept staring down tables till they left. Made us feel awkward the whole time. The food was great though.

Very good protocols for sanitation and distancing between guests; little table purifiers and personal gel sanitizer was reassuring. The wine list was extensive and their food options were plenty! The bucatini carbonara is AMAZING! Will definitely be back. Edit: the portion of the carbonara/ bucatini seemed small.. and now I know why! This is their “appetizer portion”- for $20. Not impressed.

Sat six people in the middle of the restaurant where everyone was walking past us was very uncomfortable. Had to wait for staff for quite some time to take our orders, probably would not recommend going back here.

The service wasn’t great, overall it wasn’t a great experience. Stay away from their Cacio Pepe
