We went to Formento’s for 35th wedding anniversary, but we go there all the time when it is a special occasion as well. The service is the best we’ve ever had and the food is always incredibly delicious! They change up the menu often, and we are never disappointed!
Amazing food and even better service! We had the brick chicken and fusilli pasta and loved both of our entrees. Will definitely be back again!
I thought the overall bill was pretty pricey. However, the food and service was exceptional. At first it was a bit awkward to be seated in the back room alone but it eventually filled out with more guests. The waitstaff were quick on their feet and quickly noticed I had left my hat and doggy bag on the table as I was walking away. They were always around and checking if we had water and or any other requests.
It is a very romantic, homey vibe that is perfect for a intimate date or a more formal dinner with close friends/family.
The calamari was amazing as it was light and crispy. The cocktails weren't anything special especially for their pricey point. They were handcrafted but still had a very basic, bar gun type feel.
Great West Loop place!
The food was very good, service was tops. Roasted cauliflower was the best dish I've tasted in a while, waitress was attentive. Formento's took good care of us, waitress was attentive, a minor problem was resolved graciously by the owner/host. I hope to return soon, and would recommend Formento's to anyone.
The food and service was outstanding. Definitely an authentic Italian experience. Loved dinning here and wish I had ordered four orders of the chocolate cake.
Our waitress, Christina, was wonderful! So friendly and engaging. The menu had changed a it since our last visit and was again spectacular! We had the squash side dish as our appetizer and I think the flavor was getting batter and better every bite from the first to the last. We will be back soon!
Six of us came to celebrate a birthday dinner. Our server Liliana was wonderful, attentive but not intrusive. We started out with cocktails, beer & appetizers. We had the mixed olives, whipped ricotta/bread & cauliflower w/pepperoni. All were delicious. For our entrees we tried the steak, brick chicken, bucatini carbonara, fusilli & scallops. We each enjoyed our entree. For dessert they brought an ice cream trio for the birthday boy. We also tried the affogatto, sherbet & gelato. We will be coming back to this very good & well run restaurant.
We went for New Years Eve dinner with a reservation, and we waited 45 minutes to be seated. They were out of the steak entree, and there were only a small number of entrees offered to begin with. The waitress was waiting too many tables, and very busy!! The food was very good though.
Went for New Year’s Eve. 8:45 reservations not seated until 9:15. Did not finish the 4 course pre fix until 12:30. Great waiter decent food except the steak was over cooked. The time it took between each course was absolutely ridiculous
Food was good, but overpriced, especially the wine! Would still go back, but not my top choice.
Great time, our waiter was phenomenal. Food was excellent, so was service.
We had a lovely dinner, food was good, recommendations from wait staff very nice. Service attentive.
Why are the water glasses so small, so they are constantly refilling and reaching over the table. A little annoying. But a wonderful evening.
Food was decent. Service was excellent. Portions were teeny. We went to McDonald's to eat afterwards.
Super fun Italian experience in the west loop. Great portions to share!
We had an early reservation (5 pm) and were surprised to see the restaurant at 25% capacity and growing every few minutes. The waitress was charming and knowledgable about the menu and wines. Our son had the venison which I tasted, and it was so tender and favorable. I had the lobster risotto which was very good. My husband had a simple pasta dish which was good for him since he was coming off a major surgery and not very hungry (he ate every bit of it). It was a great night!
I love Formentos but my recent trip there wasn’t great. I’m vegan and they’re usually so welcoming and calming.. but our server kept referencing my “restrictions” and said I was going to make him work because being vegan is so hard. Usually the servers are so wonderful! We asked for bread and honey (for tea) and both were forgotten. The front staff didn’t pay attention to us when we walked in and we’re talking to themselves instead of us. It was just okay this time.
Excellent! One of the best meals I have had in Chicago.
We ended up sitting in the lounge area instead of the main dining room because the main room was super tight seating wise. We were going to be squished in between two bigger tables. We sat in lounge and had a wonderful meal. Our server was well informed and nice to us!
Had a great night. Hosted some family from Mexico who were on town and absolutely loved the service and food. They sent us a Spanish speaking waiter that made a huge difference for them. They didn’t feel overwhelmed.
The drinks and appetizers and service was amazing!
Fantastic Italian - beef cheek and giardinera fussilli pasta was the best I've ever had!
Food was great. Service was excellent. We sat in the back room, which was fine, but was really very loud
I thought the food was very good, and the service was excellent!
Pasta was excellent!!! Our young bartender was really great and bru knowledgeable. Truly enjoyed the experience.
Excellent food and great server
Food was bland. Portions were small. Prices were high. Not the same experience as before. Very disappointing.
We made a special trip for brunch for the Kale salad, meatballs and signature cocktails. All three were as good as we remembered. The last time we were there we had dinner, which, as I recall, provided more options than brunch. We were a tad disappointed by the brunch options. Otherwise, the service was outstanding and we could actually engage in a conversation without shouting at each other. What a treat.
Service was very good.
Whipped ricotta and kale salad delicious!
Ambience was kind of noisy but overall was great!
I went here with a party of 6 to celebrate my graduation. It was a great ambiance and delicious food. It worked out great. The service was not up to par with other restaurants in the area though.
Great food. Overall, very pleased. Had a longer wait than expected, but received free appetizers, which were great.
Excellent service and quality food. A great value in Chicago dining and a great addition to a pretty crowded restaurant scene on a West Randolph.
Some of the best pasta (buccitini I think?) I have ever had!
We went for our holiday gathering with family and the service couldn't have been better! We were there early and the entire place was already booming! the food was amazing, portions were appropriate and the price was reasonable for the area! We loved it and will definitely be back!
The restaurant was too busy, noise level was high, tables were placed close together, service was lacking. We went for a date night and could barely hear each other. Food was good, but was very much overshadowed by the noise and service level.
Everything was amazing, from the staff and service to ambiance, to the food. Definitely will return.
I brought my girlfriend here for her birthday. Our dinner was phenomenal - great cocktails and delicious pasta. My only complaint would be that the tables were very close to each other which made us feel like we lacked a bit of privacy.
The food was very fresh and tasted excellent. They were the embodiment of a Scratch Kitchen as I felt like I was back in Italy.
We went for brunch. Food and service were great. One of our favorite spots.
It was disappointing when I was told my reservation would be 10-15 behind schedule...then I ended up waiting 45 min to be seated. Otherwise the food/wine was great.
