Service was absolutely horrible. Waited 45 minutes for an 8PM reservation. Finally got seated at 8:45 after approaching the hostess. Others who just walked in were getting seated first. Once seated, wait staff neglected our table because he focused on the larger tables. Drinks were empty and never asked for our order. Had to have a conversation with the manager about who’s waiting on our table. Bus guy was exceptional. He did everything for us.
Valuable upscale dining experience in the West Loop.
Amazing food, service, and vibe. We had the Brussels, mussels, bucatini, and scallops. Everything is made in house and the food we got was delicious! More upscale, read:pricey, but definitely worth checking out for a date night/special occasion!
Manager Jesus was really on top of providing attentive service, as the server for our table had a large group. We enjoyed the happy hour offerings in the bar prior to be seated and really enjoyed the drinks and appetizers. The homemade pasta was delicious, as were the brick chicken, branzino and wonderful selection of wines. This place was packed on a Monday evening - we will return and I highly recommend.
Date night for restaurant week. Partner is gluten free. Server and kitchen were awesome to accommodate.
we let the restaurant know ahead of time that we were having dinner, then off to a concert. Waiter was great about reminders/timing the food so we got out of there on time. Never felt rushed. Great pre-show option, easy Taxi/Uber ride to united center.
My absolutely favorite restaurant in Chicago. They will accommodate any picky eater like myself. Their food is past worthy and they keep reinventing their lineup of fantastic dishes.
Christina mad our experience incredible. What a wonderful dining experience. Every course was spectacular: Nona’s polpette/meatballs, gem salad, bucatini carbonara, paccheri, branzino, brick chicken and chocolate mousse torte were phenomenal. I can’t wait to go again!
Our server (and the hosts and busboys) were wonderful and very attentive. We had calamari as an app which was great, but I got their famous Bucatini with gluten-free pasta (I have Celiac) and it was not very good. My boyfriend got a cod ravioli which he liked but was a small portion. The two tables we were sat between both were having very pretentious conversations. Service was great, food was okay, I think it’s just a little overrated and pretentious for my taste!
Hostess did not seat us at main dining room when 4th person was 15 minutes late. 5:15 reservation- don’t understand why three people could not get seated first.
The food and wine was amazing and Murphy was an excellent server. He made our evening.
Great ambiance to gather with a group of friends and enjoy well paired wine with all their delicious dishes. The meatball appetizer is by far the best followed by the bucatini!
A bit noisy but food was good and served in good portions
Overall cool environment and great wine. The waiter was extremely rude. When asking questions about the menu he would say two different things and then when asked to clarify he would get audibly annoyed. The antipasto was the better of the courses. There is definitely better pasta in the city.
Great food and even better service.
We loved our time at Formento's! Excellent staff who were very attentive and helpful.
Sent a private note.
Always a wonderful experience - food is great as is the service
We were a party of 4 celebrating a birthday. Our waiter, Murphy did an excellent job of taking care of us.
Servers were fantastic during our brunch service there.
Pasta is top notch. The rest of the odd was average, we had Nonnas meatballs, chocolate cake, gelato, all were okay. But not outdoing others I’ve had.
A little pricy, but overall the food and service were excellent
Food was very good, but miss the traditional menu items.
Second floor was great for larger parties!
Great atmosphere and location on Randolph St. We all enjoyed our meals.
The food is awesome and the service is even better. One of my favorites West Loop dining spots. Great date and double date location.
Nonna’s Meatballs and Bucatini are must orders.
Arctic Char was surprisingly good.
Service is exceptional.
Bourbon selections outstanding.
The service was a highlight; cheerful, informative, and pleasant.
Loved the view out the large windows onto Randolph street.
This is the second time I have been here. Let me first start by saying that the ambience is very nice. However the first time I was here I thought the food was bland and nothing special. My wife and I decided to give it a second try. Unfortunately the second try was no better and in fact a little worse than the first try. I really wanted to like this place given the vibe, however the food is just not very good. The chef tries just a little too hard in each dish and unfortunately misses. There are so many really good Italian restaurants in Chicago. This one will be taken off of our rotation.
I missed a soup offer on the menu. A soup is a necessary part of Italian supper
We went to Formento’s for 35th wedding anniversary, but we go there all the time when it is a special occasion as well. The service is the best we’ve ever had and the food is always incredibly delicious! They change up the menu often, and we are never disappointed!
Amazing food and even better service! We had the brick chicken and fusilli pasta and loved both of our entrees. Will definitely be back again!
I thought the overall bill was pretty pricey. However, the food and service was exceptional. At first it was a bit awkward to be seated in the back room alone but it eventually filled out with more guests. The waitstaff were quick on their feet and quickly noticed I had left my hat and doggy bag on the table as I was walking away. They were always around and checking if we had water and or any other requests.
It is a very romantic, homey vibe that is perfect for a intimate date or a more formal dinner with close friends/family.
The calamari was amazing as it was light and crispy. The cocktails weren't anything special especially for their pricey point. They were handcrafted but still had a very basic, bar gun type feel.
Great West Loop place!
The food was very good, service was tops. Roasted cauliflower was the best dish I've tasted in a while, waitress was attentive. Formento's took good care of us, waitress was attentive, a minor problem was resolved graciously by the owner/host. I hope to return soon, and would recommend Formento's to anyone.
The food and service was outstanding. Definitely an authentic Italian experience. Loved dinning here and wish I had ordered four orders of the chocolate cake.
Our waitress, Christina, was wonderful! So friendly and engaging. The menu had changed a it since our last visit and was again spectacular! We had the squash side dish as our appetizer and I think the flavor was getting batter and better every bite from the first to the last. We will be back soon!
Six of us came to celebrate a birthday dinner. Our server Liliana was wonderful, attentive but not intrusive. We started out with cocktails, beer & appetizers. We had the mixed olives, whipped ricotta/bread & cauliflower w/pepperoni. All were delicious. For our entrees we tried the steak, brick chicken, bucatini carbonara, fusilli & scallops. We each enjoyed our entree. For dessert they brought an ice cream trio for the birthday boy. We also tried the affogatto, sherbet & gelato. We will be coming back to this very good & well run restaurant.
We went for New Years Eve dinner with a reservation, and we waited 45 minutes to be seated. They were out of the steak entree, and there were only a small number of entrees offered to begin with. The waitress was waiting too many tables, and very busy!! The food was very good though.
Went for New Year’s Eve. 8:45 reservations not seated until 9:15. Did not finish the 4 course pre fix until 12:30. Great waiter decent food except the steak was over cooked. The time it took between each course was absolutely ridiculous
