Formaggio is always a great go-to spot for us. They have a large wine selection and their food is always sooooo good! The ambiance resembles being in a wine cave and staff is always on point. They have live music on the weekends, which can be a bit loud, but still a great time.

Our service was great but the food wasn’t so good! I haven’t been to Formaggio in years but I remember a more relaxed menu of nice pupu to go with drinks, not so dinner heavy. Also no vegan entrees.

Was excited to come here, brought my whole family, apparently the bartender walked out so i understand being behind but everything was wrong or didnt come, then was offered a discount because of it and wasnt even given one. Paid full price, at a $500 + dinner, but will not go back, which is sad because it was a cool place.

Have not been to Formaggio since before Covid and wanted to give them another try. There were four of us and we were Greeted with a smile. We opted to wait for another table and tried to get drinks at bar and waited over 10-12 minutes with barely a nod from the bartender. Mike was our server and very friendly however his service was lacking. No refill on water and had to flag down to get another drink. Food and wine was good but the prices were a little hard to justify ! Inflation is real at Formaggio ! It does has a fun, hip vibe , the staff are super friendly and great music so check it out and see what you think!

We all had steak at our table. The scampi were a bit mushy and we had ordered rib eye but they looked more like filet mignon. The meat was very tender and three of the four steaks were cooked properly. The meat had no flavour unfortunately. We are from Alberta Canada and we do love our beef. I found this place to be a bit of a contradiction. They are trying to price and be an upscale restaurant but the ambience screamed lounge. The service was quick, we arrived before our reservation on New Years Eve and were seated promptly. All staff said thank you for coming upon leaving. I wouldn’t be opposed to going back here but not for a fancy meal. This would be a place I would drop in to for a casual meal after a day at the beach.

My apology for having to write a poor review but it was really a bad experience. I wouldn't be surprise if others took the time to write a review as well. We and other patrons waited over 1.5 hours for our "appetizers" to arrive and it was cold when it came. The main entrees for 4 people took another 30-45 minutes for 2 entrees and the remaining 2 entrees another 20 minutes. The 1st two entrees were steak orders, which 1 was a different steak (New York but we ordered Ribeye), but the server said it was a "deal" cause they added prawns. These entrees were from another table but the patrons had walked out!!!! Both steak entrees came with cold french fries despite it should have been mashed potatoes. They didn't even have rice. Then, the last 2 entrees didn't have any starch because they ran out!!! Oh and they ran out of ice tea , so we had to wait a while for a new brew. The new owner was walking around the restaurant instead of directing traffic in the kitchen and getting orders organized. We saw about 4 tables of patrons just walk out, which we should have as well instead of paying for a $225.00 experience!!! They should have comped our entire meal, but they only excluded 1 appetizer & 1 soup! It would have been too late to go to another restaurant in Kailua on Christmas Day. I think Chef Gordan Ramsey would have shut down the restaurant that evening.

I was happy that we were able to get a Christmas reservation for 4 on Christmas eve even though it was an early opening. Staff was extremely friendly and we were seated in the back which was nice and quiet and felt intimate. Our waiter was extremely friendly and we were extremely satisfied with his recommendations. Service was fast and food was delicious.

Entrees were all good, but appetizers were lack luster. Service was mediocre at best despite being friendly. Forgot our appetizers and was kind of slow. I'd go there again for the entrees, but never for a special occasion. I didn't care about the free desserts because of the forgotten appetizers, but felt there was no true apology or even a follow-up by the manager. For the price, there should be more service attention to detail.

This was a nice experience overall. We started with a delicious bruschetta. My husband loved his impossible pasta bolognese. (Lots of options for vegetarians here!) I was not as happy with my ahi risotto. It was 5 small pieces of ahi on top of a just ok risotto. The service was great. We will go back but I will order something else. :) Nice wine list too!

The restaurant advertised tender steaks. I ordered a rib steak medium rare. The steak was served in a tasty sauce but was very difficult to cut and was, in fact, probably 1/4 gristle. Plus the cook did not know the difference between medium rare and medium raw. I should have sent it back within the first two minutes, but I struggled through it. When I complained to the waiter and pointed to all the gristle left on my plate, he tried to tell me that all rib steaks have a lot of gristle. We’ll, not the ones I cook at home at least 4 times a month and certainly it should not be at a restaurant that advertises tender steaks and charges $61 for them. I was not taken aback by the menu price, but was certainly expecting a high quality, perfectly cooked steak for the price. But the steak was an embarrassment at any price and should not have been served. Other members of my party commented that the French onion soup was very good, but that the shrimp dishes were acceptable but mediocre. I was not pleased by the lack of concern by our waiter, but still left a standard 20% tip.

My food was cold, the steak had a lot of gristle, the dessert was still frozen, and there were delays in getting drinks and our order. I was disappointed. It’s not a cheap restaurant and normally the food is amazing. We will go again but we will be wary.

Beth is such a great bar tender and has a wonderful personality. Very knowledgeable about the menu and always makes great wine selections. Food was delicious and it served hot. Great experience, highly recommend it. Ribs and Ahi are my favorites.
