We enjoyed everything about Forest Grill, the food was fantastic and the service was outstanding. If I had to say anything negative it would be that the tables in our section were a bit too close to each other, we could hear the conversation at both tables next to us. This would not deter us from coming back.
although a limited menu, there is something for everyone
Service is excellent, the room is terrific, but the food is not great. The starters are fine and the pasta was excellent, but the other mains were iffy at best. The branzino was quite dry and tasteless, and the chicken was dry as well. The choices for mains once past the pasta was quite limited.
Food preparation and presentation were outstanding, but some portion sizes were a bit small for the dollars spent.
The food is delicious! Romantic yet lively. Try the farm egg!
Every one in our party had delicious dinners and great service. I never know how to rate "value", but it is expensive.
I don't know why it took us so long to come back. Had a nice celebration after my sons high school graduation. Service away great, food was great. All eight of us enjoyed our dinners and apps. Great cap off of a special day.
Excellent experience, server was personable and exceptional. Meals were absolutely delicious!
Excellent food and service. Forest has an imaginative and creative chef.
Service, food, ambiance all first class. The short rib and baked alaska are fantastic and keep us coming back.
Halibut dish was divine- Truffle pasta special was exquisite. We really enjoy the atmosphere, service and food. One of our go-to spots!
Overall great experience from service to food.
Fantastic Mother’s Day Brunch. Had a great time and even the kids - who are typically picky - enjoyed it. Farm Egg, Duck confit, Breads, desserts were all very good!
Service and food were both wonderful. Martini’s were perfectly prepared too!! This was a special occasion and the restaurant exceeded our expectations!! We will definitely return!
We had wine, meat, fish, pasta, salads and desserts and had no complaints -- everything was excellent
The food was quite good- the duck was the highlight. I don't feel the add on sides necessarily complement or are required with the entree, as the entree was generous enough in size, and we had several appetizers and a shareable entree. Hadn't been back since before the current chef took over, and was really pleased with the overall experience. The food is very good, even if the service wasn't quite a home run, yet still very good. Wish the tasting menu were longer, but like that at least they shared the contents, particularly if you are unsure about going down that path.
What a wonderful restaurant with creative good and outstanding service.
I love salty food, but the gnudi was Dead Sea salty....inedible. A friend had recommended the duck saying it was tender with crisp skin. My duck was difficult to cut with a knife with soggy skin. Perhaps the head chef was on vacation?
Tonight was remarkable. The Detroit restaurant scene is exploding with fine dining. But, tonight I think I had the best dinner I have ever had in a Metro-D restaurant. I must admit that I ventured back into the Forest for one reason and one reason only. Don’t call me Daffy, but the Freep restaurant review made me go back for the duck and it was all it was “quacked” up to be! The black rice app and farm egg were delicious and crisp. But the duck “goosed” me. We sat next to the look-in kitchen and we could see it prepared. It was truly a work of art. The chef slices the duck breast and alternates with a slice of marinated portobello mushroom. The duck skin is crispy. There is a symphony of flavors. There is a miso sauce that is not overpowering. The “duck-room” is topped with three pickled onions that are filled with duck liver mousse with a touch of chile in it. It was a large portion. Simply put, this was fantabulous. 2 forks up! I am going back before this goes off the menu! Hats off to the Chef and our wonderful server Lisa. PS-the fries are ducky too!
From valet parking to wine with dinner, everything was excellent. The special for that night was parsnip soup. Not something I would usually pick. It was so good!
Very nice restaurant and dining experience. Prices are very reasonable and food is very good. We’ll be back soon.
Our server was excellent. The food was excellent, fresh and in nice portions. The wine selection was interesting and well priced. We had a great evening.
Food was saltier than sin; almost unbearable. Mixed drinks were attractive to look at, bland and vague in taste. Cauliflower ravioli about the size of a walnut or smaller, were basically glorified smashed cauliflower. The topping was overpowering and EXTREMELY salty. On the plus side, our server was excellent and knowledgeable. Coffee was good, dessert - fair. Way, way overpriced meal and ambience just wasn’t enough to justify it. Maybe just an off night for the Chef. Either/or, we won’t be spending hundreds of dollars to find out. Overall nice if only for coffee and dessert.
We had a wonderful dinner for 4 here this week. The service was fantastic, and we all thought the food was tremendously delicious. Would definitely recommend!!
Great new sprint offerings. Gnudi was exceptional. Octopus is the best! Excellent service great wine list.
Very nice place, excellent food and good selection. Hard to get a table but worth the wait. Props to David behind the bar and Emily for good service. The duck entree is a good choice.
Now of the classiest restaurants in the Detroit Metro area. Great Chef, outstanding service and delightful cuisine.
Always a delight to dine here!! Food is fabulous and the place is bright and fun!! I just wish they would add fresh fruit on the menu for dessert with whip cream and then it would be absolutely PERFECT!!!
Our favorite go to spot! We love everything - especially the French wine!
Overall, our meal was good. Our waiter was attentive but not very friendly and our courses were spaced very close together. The food was interesting though perhaps not interesting enough to warrant the price. The atmosphere was fun and unique though! The rose water ice cream and cauliflower ravioli were highlights of the meal.
The server was a bit apathetic, but not rude in anyway. She was knowledgeable, and prompt however. The food was excellent for the price, but I am also from Seattle. So with a comparable restaurant I would expect the tab to be 20-30% higher. As a comparison though my tab was higher at the Chop House in Ann Arbor for comparable food and drinks.
I had the 28 day aged New York, and my date had the Salmon but changed the sides. Which they had no problem doing. For drinks I had two EH Taylor bourbons, and my date had two Grey Goose and sprites. For desert we shared the Baked Alaskan. Everything was fantastic and to a level you'd expect of the price point. I will say nothing stood out to me as uniquely amazing, but that is a very high bar for me. Our total tab was 155.82 with a 20% tip (not included in price).
Trying too hard to be innovative...food was not up to hopes and expectations...
Our food was sent back because it was cold , came back the same. Manager was fantastic our meal was comped.
My fiancé’s 30th birthday! Great ambience, food and staff!
Wonderful food and service. Good wine selection.
Excellent food, excellent service always a wonderful dining experience.
This past week my wife and I had a most pleasant dinner at Forest. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive to our needs and the timing of the meal. I chose the branzino. It was cooked perfectly, and to my surprise, the quinoa was a great complement. My wife started with the fried egg classic. She was blown away, mentioning it several times over the next few days. This was followed by the pasta with short ribs, which was well prepared(al dente) and had a nice depth of taste. We chose the baked alaska for dessert. It was fine, but nothing special.
Over the past decade we have eaten at Forest Grill on a number of occasions. This was the best meal yet. We will definitely return the next time we are in the area.
Forest Grill is always amazing. It’s small, quiet with delicious food and excellent service. Can’t wait to go again
Our server was awful. He was not helpful with explaining the menu even when questions were asked. He acted annoyed for the entire service. His attitude sucked!!!!! The food And ambiance were both good, although the drinks were overpriced. Overall the service ruined this experience for me and my dinner guests.
We came for restaurant week and loved the food and service. The room is beautiful!
