I've loved Fore Street for many years. I think it was the first "open kitchen" in Portland. It's still terrific. I now think there are better options at a more reasonable price point in the Portland market.
First of all let me say that the food here ranges from very good to excellent. That being said, as a lot of other reviewer‘s have noted the service leaves much to be desired. We visited Fore Street on a Sunday evening, and let me preface this by saying that the restaurant was not completely full. Never have we ever felt so rushed to order, to eat, and to leave! We had such high hopes for this restaurant but sadly the pool was serviced left a bad taste in our mouth, we will not return. TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT
It was a great treat to eat at Fore Street. Living locally, you would think we would have dined here before knowing Fore Street's exceptional reputation, but this was the first time for us. The food was fantastic, as well as the service. A wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion.
Visited from DELAWARE for my Husbands 40th Birthday 🎂
Read the reviews and took a leap of faith! It was just Awesome 👏🏽
Thank You Open Table and Fore Street for making my husband Sooooo 😊 Happy!!
Keep up the Outstanding Customer Service👍🏽🤗
This restaurant is everything that it is cracked up to be. Great good. Great ambiance. Wonderful service. And not overly priced. Well worth it. Will definitely be coming back.
This was our second visit to Fore Street. We arrived early and enjoyed a drink at the bar before dinner. Our table was ready on time and we were pleased to be seated in a corner. Our waitress Emily was attentive and helpful. The food was phenomenal. From our organic greens salad to the chocolate mousse cake dessert, each bite was delicious! If you are in Portland you should try to eat at Fore Street
Everything was amazing. From the squid appetizer to the lamb and sea bass entrees to the sumptuous desserts (we ordered three!), we were in foodie heaven. Our server was a delight, the wine list is superb, and the atmosphere was on point. When we come back to Portland, Fore Street will be at the top of our list.
After doing a lot of research into the best places to eat in Portland, we decided we couldn't miss Fore Street. The atmosphere is incredible - very warm and cozy - and it was fun to look into the open kitchen. The food was fantastic. Some of the freshest seafood and fish I've ever had. Our waiter was very helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed our experience and recommend it to anyone visiting Portland!
The mussels were the best I have ever had and my fish was perfect for my entree. A perfect evening!
It seems impossible to make a bad choice dining here. All the food is extremely good, and the staff terrific. On this occasion, we split the grilled squid app, I had the whole stuffed black bass, my husband had the roast chicken and we split mashed potatoes and a chocolate souffle cake.
Enjoyable meal and experience. Would highly recommend.
Fore Street was recommended by our daughter. Everyone was gracious from the time we opened the door. Our waitress was well informed on the menu and gave a detailed explanation of steak fondness. She was attentive but gave us time to enjoy our meal.
She also was able to answer our questions about the history of the space. Wonderful meal.
The meal was outstanding and my favorite so far in Portland. The mussels and the whole sea bass were the highlights, and the small plates were great as well. We ordered a ton of food for 2 people, but finished every last bite, including the dessert. If you had to pick one place to go in Portland for a special night out, for sure check out Fore Street.
This is the first time I went to Fore Street as I randomly found a reservation time available as its usually booked. Not sure why all the hype. Ordered Hanger Steak and it was just “Meh.” In fact, the entire restaurant, atmosphere and service was just “Meh.” Far better places in Portland. Would rather spend that kind of money on a much better meal down the street. Don’t waste your time trying to get into a place that’s just “Meh.”
Really an enjoyable dinner. Be sure to make a reservation.
This restaurant never disappoints! The food is so fresh, locally sourced and the chefs take pride in making everything delicious and fantastic. I will keep coming back again and again.
It was absolutely wonderful. Best date night we’ve had since having our son.
The food was great. I got the scallops and my husband got the steak. Everything was cooked perfectly and we got the potatoes and carrots as the sides. Which were extremely good. The bread they serve is great and baked fresh downstairs. The dessert of the doughnuts were great too. The service was great too
Outstanding food was fantastic and what a unique atmosphere. Loved every minute.
Wow! First class Dinner! Lamb Chop was super good as well as the sides etc. good wine list and cheese tray.
Wait staff were attentive and knowledgeable
Always awesome. Every time I am in Portland I try to get here!
Simply fabulous !
Favorite restaurant in Portland for a long time. Will always be. With all of these new places popping up, all of the food competition. I've tired it all. This place is a Portland ORIGINAL and nothing will ever compare. I keep coming back, over, and over again.
Excellent food and presentation. Wait staff was was very good. Server suggested a bottle of wine that ended up pairing perfectly with our meal.
Everything was fine, but the staff are too rigid on the menu and substitutions, even when made aware of dietary restrictions. I won’t be returning .
Great food, great staff, nice ambiance! Highly recommend it when in town.
Great service, love the ambiance, creative menu. 😄 Limited vodka and beer choices.🙁
We will be back! Amazing food and quality servive.
I had an amazing experience here, great food , and great service.
After dinner, we discussed our experience. We both agreed the dinner at Fore Street was in our Top 4 meals of all time...and we eat out a lot. The ambiance, food, wine / cocktails and service were spectacular. From the homemade bread, oysters, beet salad, lamb and short ribs, we were blown away and wouldn’t have changed a thing. We’ll definitely be back. Hopefully we can save room for dessert on our next visit!
This restaurant is a regional gem. Outstanding menu, excellent wine and cocktail menu and their bread is made in the basement by the Standard Baking Co, a James Beard nominee. The have an open wood split and a wood fired oven in their open kitchen. You can see everything being prepared. Its a fantastic experience. This is a must visit restaurant if you are visiting Portland.
Food was outstanding and ambience was great. (Very pricey.) Server was terse and even seemed annoyed at times. We always enjoy our experience at fore Street, overall.
Excellent as usual
Food well presented, service good, a bit loud and felt pricing a bit high for what quantity of food we received.
This was my first visit back to Fore Street in about 15 years and it was ok. When I went in the past I had some truly memorable meals and this time I had a pork chop that was extremely salty (this is coming from someone who likes salt), was cooked well, and was...well...a pork chop. I will definitely go back and expecting it to be better next time.
Needed to remind waiter a few times
Delicious vegetarian options and interesting wine selection (in a good way) 🍷
