Daughters wedding dinner
In May, we made our reservation at Fire Street after the highest recommendation from my husband’s gastroenterologist in Fort Myers, FL told us Fore was the best restaurant he’d ever been to, anywhere. We came to Portland with friends and wanted to have a great foodie experience. We were seated at a nice booth that was separated from others by bread baskets and an open walkway so we never felt squeezed in and couldn’t hear other diners conversations. We enjoyed our server who was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and the wines. The pork belly appetizer was melt in your mouth and we all LOVED that artisan bread. The brocolini salad was tasty even if the brocolini itself was a bit too raw to cut with our table knives. I had the scallops which had been perfectly seared with a crusty bit on the putt and still translucent and tender on the inside. My husband had the roasted chicken dish which was ample and perfectly cooked. My friends had the delicious pappardelle dish. Comfort food was never so tasty. The bluefin tuna was enjoyed by another and my other friend had the hanger steak. Yum. The whole experience was top-notch. So happy we made our reservation on Open Table. A highlight of our visit to Portland.
Loved the oysters, muscles and scallops. Everything was great.
The food was great and I would have given Fore St a five, however with a daily changing menu I think they need to allow for a little more flexibility to accommodate diners with food allergies.
I am vegetarian with gluten and dairy allergies. They advertised a plant option so I was thrilled. The night we had our dinner the one plant option came with pasta and as the server rather curtly reminded me it is a daily menu and there are no substitutions. Seems my request to switch pasta for rice was insulting. When I asked for balsamic vinegar for my dressing I was told it would be extra because it is ‘special’. As a foodie I understand, but the manner in which the server and the restaurant addresses food allergies is overly ridged and frankly arrogate. I would ask that the team at Fore St remember that with a daily changing and very small menu it is hard for those of us with food allergies to plan our dining experience.
Excellent customer service. Cool bar area to wait for seating. Got the roasted mussels, blue fin tuna, and zucchini with beat sauce. The beat sauce was an unexpected delight.
Good was great and service was outstanding.
We have been coming here for 12 years and this time we were disappointed in preparation of fish dishes (tuna and halibut) as very ordinary, but overpriced. Our server was not very interested as well. Still gave it 3 stars due to superb bread which can be procured downstairs at Standard Bakery. So in the future, we still can get the bread!
Everything about our experience was wonderful. Can see why this place is so popular. From our server, the atmosphere and the food, everything was exceptional. What a gem. Can’t wait to go back again.
Had a great meal from start to finish. Did find that the portions had gotten smaller on the outstanding mussels and the side dishes from the last time we had eaten there. Our waitress was outstanding.
Fore Street continues to be the restaurant to measure all other Maine restaurants by.
Great food and great service. The chicken liver appetizer is phenomenal.
Food overrated Great atmosphere waited too long with my reservation. Seriously overrated. SteAk tough on 3 orders sent back
Great food great space
Loved it would definitely recommend and go back!!
Best restaurant I've been to in Portland and one of the best I've had recently.
One of the best meals I’ve had in my life
This place was SUPERB at every level. From the bread to the fire/ wood oven mussels to the scallops. All of the fire roasted vegetable salads were also spectacular. And do not skip dessert! We had the best hazelnut ice cream )served with a chocolate soufflé) that was the best I ever had. The rhubarb tart was also amazing. I will go back every time I make it to Portland, Maine..
Great food and great seating with a clear view of the kitchen. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful. We had a fantastic meal. The pork loin was the best dish of the night.
Too frigging loud! Food was excellent, great service, way too expensive. 236.00 for three, no drinks. Not a good value
Very good experience. Our table for two was very small and a little hard to fit the good on. Food was good and service was great.
We have always wanted to eat at Fore Street! We waited for a special occasion, our 1st anniversary! Not only was the food outstanding, but the ambiance and view of the kitchen was quite spectacular! Thank you to Emily and all the staff!
Fore Street lives up to the hype. The food is delicious and the ambiance and service are fantastic.
Great food, knowledgeable waiter. Restaurant was busy but not excessively noisy.
Incredible view of the wood-fired cooking. Great atmosphere and amazing food. Seafood and steak cooked to perfection. We will be back when we are in Portland.
Food, and drinks here were amazing. Service was impeccable. Really loved the fire roasted muscles, hanger steak, and chicken dish that was on the menu for June 26. Highly recommend this restaurant for anybody in the Portland area
All around good experience. Very satisfied
Awesome dinner and service
Perfect from beginning to end! Terrific experience.
This is an outstanding restaurant. From the minute you walk in and are aware of the wood grille, open kitchen and friendly laid-back but sophisticated ambiance, you know you are in a world class restaurant. It does not disappoint. Luscious wood grilled entrees and veggies. Delectable deserts. Nice wine list. Who could ask for more?
Fore Street lives up to its reputation with the food, pacing, decor all being outstanding. However, the attitude of some of the staff knocked it down to 4 Stars. Ten minutes after our confirmed reservation and not being seated, I politely asked the middle aged blond lady with glasses on the status of our table? Her brusque reply was just wait and be patient.
Our server was efficient and knowledgeable but never smiled a single time (the food runners and bus staff were all smiling and outgoing) and each time we asked if the kitchen could accommodate a small request, her answer was a brusque “no”
Our experience of revisiting restaurants in Portland 20 months after our first stay there had been disappointing - until our return to Fore Street. Everything was as good as we remembered it. If ever back in Portland (most likely) we will come back to Fore Street!
Fore Street outshines almost every other restaurant in Portland. It has been going strong now for three decades and will not disappoint. Great food, service, ambience. The only hard part is planning enough in advance to get a reservation -- which tells you that others appreciate this fine restaurant as well. Can't wait to return.
Absolutely delicious!! We were greeted with such warmth and kindness. My husband and I ordered appetizers, half bottles of wine, scallops and chicken dish with shared beets. I wanted to lick my plate! Fabulous!!
Excellent overall experience. Pork belly and grilled squid appetizer were fabulous, and our entrees were delicious too. Couldn't ask for better service or atmosphere. We would come back for sure!
Always consistently good. Nice space, incredible food and great service.
Both my wife & I are sensitive to sound, so we found the noise level a bit uncomfortable. It’s probably safe to assume we are in the minority and most would find the noise level acceptable.
Fabulous food and a “well oiled machine” of service. Highly recommend!
Simply Wonderful. Dined here several times over the years when we are in town and consistently fantastic. Simple, clean and outstanding flavors. The plum rhubarb crisp - WOW.
Waiter was wonderful. Food very good.
very good food in a nice atmosphere. had the roast chicken some of the best I have ever had - my only slight complaint is that it did not come with any vegetables. had to purchase a side dish after the entree arrived.
We had been to Fore Street when we were in Portland a few years ago and it was memorable. Our experience this time was awful. The bread was good, the wine was excellent, and the mussels were the only thing they prepared that was good. The salad we ordered was too salty. I ordered the halibut, which by itself was fine, but they paired it with radishes and cannellini beans which actually detracted from the taste rather than enhancing it. My husband ordered the lamb which was served raw and was so tough he couldn’t eat it. In all, it was a huge disappointment and a huge waste of money.
