Our waiter Ryan was excellent. We had a wine question and Ryan suggested the perfect wine from New Zealand that we were familiar with and sold us a bottle. Perfect paring for our meal. Also parking at the Standard worked perfectly.
Thank you all for an enjoyable supper. Food was sublime and service was impeccable.
Incredible food, service and ambience as usual. One of our all time favorites!
Our first trip to Maine for our Anniversary. Excellent food and service
Incredible service. I wish I have the same wait staff wherever I go. The food has been built up too much and was a bit of a let down. The roasted flavor comes through in everything but otherwise not memorable flavors. Creme Brule was burnt on top:-(
Service was not very good, or I just expected more. Food was fine, nothing more, nothing less. I think sister restaurant Scales offers more attentive, professional service and better food.
This was such an amazing dining experience. We have dined at many James Beard award winning chef restaurants and I cannot believe this chef is not a winner! What is going on? To have held this quality for 30 years is just mind blowing. I will be back many times in the future.
Fabulous seasonal dishes. Scallops and hanger steak for entrees were perfect. Brussels sprouts and carrot sides were good accompaniments. Bread was delicious. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert was to die for. As good as any I've eaten in Scotland!
Excellent as always.
Very enjoyable. Kelly, our wait staff person was wonderful. Knowledgeable and friendly. We will be back.
Absolutely outstanding meal. The service and staff is beyond outstanding. This is one of our absolute favorite places to eat in Portland.
Michael was honestly one of the best servers we’ve ever had, and I’m a restaurant owner myself. Everything was spot on and he anticipated our every need. From champagne presentation to food recommendations, he nailed it all from start to finish with enthusiasm. The food was outstanding, as it always is…wonderful halibut over seasonal roasted veggies, the delicious standard baking co. bread, and the sticky toffee pudding was the best way to round out the meal. It just doesn’t get any better than dining at Fore Street!
We booked our reservation about 60 days in advance. Party of 4. Appetizers (including an superb lentil/duck soup) were outstanding. Main courses were excellent. Wine list was a bit overpriced (3-4x retail) but interesting and varied. Second time eating at Fore Street within the past month.
Definitely one of the top (if not the top) restaurant in Portland when all factors (food, service, atmosphere) are taking into account.
Possibly the worst fine dining meal we’ve ever had. The two starters we ordered were tasty but quite skimpy for The amount being charged. The entrees were terrible, hanger steak was so tough and chewy you could hardly cut it with the provided steak knife and the accompanying grits were cold. The whole black bass was filleted at the table which was a nice touch but when the young man commented that there may still be a few bones in the fish I never dreamed what he actually meant was that every single bite you take will be more bone than fish. I was shocked that this high end restaurant would even serve something this horrible. There was no way to tell if it was too or not because it was literally a mouth full of bones each bite. I tried to eat as much as I could but finally gave up and it’s unfortunate because I was hungry after eating light during the day anticipating our special anniversary dinner. This will be our last visit to this overrated establishment. So disappointed but there are plenty of other fine restaurants in Portland that I will be happy to visit and spend my money happily.
Always fantastic food, drinks and service! Then menu is never the same, so it’s always exciting to try something new. Can’t recommend this place enough!
Great customer service- a huge menu to choose from and food was fantastic.
my favorite portland restaurant. nice to relax and unwind
The food and service was amazing. A must go when in Portland.
First time back in almost 2 years due to pandemic and Fore Street is still the best restaurant in Portland!
My husband and I went to Fore Street to celebrate my birthday. Everything was delicious.
Delicious & wonderful atmosphere!!!
Once again Fore Street lived up to its reputation. Delicious, intelligent, woke food in great portions.
A couple of negatives: 1) Apps and salads came out before we'd finished our cocktails. Made us worried about the pace of the meal. But, things slowed down appropriately before the entrees arrived. 2) Our table was almost too small to accommodate the food and drinks.
But the positives outweigh the negatives. We were seated at the exact time of our reservation, our waitperson was totally on point, the presentation, quality and portion size of our food choices were excellent. And, woah, that sour dough bread is too good to be true!
Great well prepared food. Service uneven in beginning of meal with appetizers arriving before wine but then got their pacing down and the rest of the the meal was well served
Amazing food. Great service, beautiful restaurant
We went out with our baby girl for my husbands birthday last Sunday night and everything was absolutely amazing! Our server was so wonderful! She was there when we needed her at all the right times, never hovering & made sure we had what we needed without ever having to ask! The manager was so nice too! He helped us obtain milk to take back for the baby to have when we got back to the hotel room too! Will absolutely be back! Great birthday date night out!
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Truly enjoyed the experience.
Really specially spot for a night out with delicious food
We had a great martini at the bar while we waited for our table. Our server was engaging, incredibly helpful, and fun to chat with. The bottle of wine we ordered was delicious and the meal from start to finish was perfect. The turn-spit chicken was lights out good. By the time we finished, we had the back room to ourselves. 10/10 great dinner and experience.
I’ve enjoyed my visits before but was disappointed by the menu choices. There was only vegetarian option which was good but not normally what would have chosen.
The noise level was extremely high and this would deter me from going again.
The younger crowd might enjoy it more.
One of, if not the best restaurant in Portland. Beautiful dining room, excellent service and a menu with many incredible dishes.
We love Fore Street Restaurant. We’ve been coming since inception, for 25 years. It’s fun to introduce friends to the restaurant….it’s always a wow factor! Thank you.
Food and service were excellent. The only issue is that it was just a bit too dark. I recognize that dim light is part of the ambiance but I couldn’t read the menu.
The bluefin tuna crudo is spectacular as is the fois gras as an appitizer. Go with the halibut for a main and leave room for dessert.
Our service and food were wonderful. The restaurant was very, very warm.
once again, perfection. cortland apple salad, lamb shoulder.
Fabulous dinner overall. We had starters, mains and dessert. Notably very special was the mussels, tuna crudo, the mushroom soup, the Hangar Steak, and the lamb special. All food was pleasantly hot, presented well. Waiter was personable and efficient. The room was lively, a little loud at times, but quite enjoyable watching the prepping and cooking of the food. Although we were fairly full we did share the dark chocolate tart which was beautifully done and even just a bite or two was heavenly.
Food, service and ambiance outstanding! Sarah, our server was awesome! Wonderful evening with our guests from North Carolina. Thank you!
This has always been one of our favorite places, but it's down a notch (even counting Covid caused issues). Limited menu, jet engine loud noise level and chewy Hanger Stack. Service was great, but they need to work on some things. We'll come back but not for a while.
Great place to go for a special occasion! Always enjoy our experience when we dine here. Very professional staff and amazing food and drinks.
Very good, make sure to get mushrooms , best mushrooms!
