This is a tweaked out underwater mansion." (Press quote)
Forbes Island has breathtaking views of the city, San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, from the decks and the "high above it all" lighthouse.
We are a one of a kind floating island, featured in "The Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" and many other shows and movies.
And if any of this should leave you indifferent, the Rack of Lamb, Angus Filet Mignon, or the fresh Fish of the Day certainly will not. Wrap up the evening with the Island-made Chocolate Mousse Cake, it’s a must.

We made a reservation, which was confirmed, only to show up and have the entire restaurant be closed.
I went here with my husband for the first date after the wedding😍. This is a great place for romantic dinner. We had dinner at the udnerwater restaurant which is very cozy and the couple can easily get lost into each other starting with wine. After the dinner we went to the light house and beleive me the city, ocean and the bridge everything is very beautifuI at night from the top of this light house. I always saw this place but never thought this such an amazing one. I would definetely say this is the place if you want to surprise your guy. he'll love you more 😀😉
Disappointing experience...as a local San Francisco resident, the term tourist trap comes to mind. Food good but service average at best - we were crammed in a small table and from the start, the service was spotty. After finally making a reservation and dining at Forbes Island, this one is not on our repeat list.
Amazing food and place.
The restaurant is rather like a tourist trap atmosphere, but then of course it is off pier 39. It's literally build on a dock and restaurant is under the water line. And that's where the trouble begins. You immediately are hit by a moldy, mildew smell. Not too appetizing. But once you get used to it , food is good. Place could use a good cleaning. Dust off all the junk on the walls and ceiling. Scrub off the portals so you can actually see the underwater world. It has its charm, but if your looking for a nice place to enjoy fresh west coast cuisine and scenic bay view, there are many other great choices in the area.
This place is a lot of fun, great venue, great experience. Take a boat to the island, be a pirate for the night. Food was decent, good deal - 4 course menu for 70$. Had a blast in this themed restaurant.
As soon as we got on the boat with Captain Chris, he told us about the amazing history of the island. We were seated as soon as we got there (even though we were half an hour late). Ekaterin (she said call her Katya) was very attentive and very sweet! Every course was delicious and savory. They even wrote congratulations on the dessert plate for my friend's promotion! Captain Chris told us to check out the famous restroom and the lighthouse and even helped us take some pictures! My friend and I LOVE this place and all of its staff! You couldn't have asked for more. The service and food was superb! Definitely coming back and ALREADY told a bunch of my friends about this place!
Restaurants needs updating although it was a theme restaurant
Set meal $79 USD
Food was ok and a nice overall different experience . Not overly expensive given it is Pier 39 and four course
Something unique to do
What an exceptional dining experience! The island itself is a marvel of engineering, creativity, and hospitality, and it is worth a trip just to explore it and enjoy all of its decorative details and breathtaking views of the city and pier 39. But make no mistake--the food, service, and ambiance were also incredible. It was clear to us that pride is taken in every facet of a guest's visit, including even the brisk boat ride to the island from I dock. Our perfectly portioned and delicious four course meal was delivered to our table with impeccable timing and ideally attentive yet polite service, leading to what felt like a top notch French dining experience executed with American sensibilities. During our visit, I also had the a pleasure of eating the most delectable and well-prepared portion of salmon I have ever tasted.
The server was attentive and enthusiastic as were the other members of the staff
Considering the ambiance, I did not expect the food to be excellent. Creative, fun, unusual and really good. This probably fits into my top 10 dining experiences in my life. Seriously, this is the best dining experience since El Farallon in Cabo San Lucas 3 years ago. Really unique with 5 star food and 5 star service. This place should be on everyone's bucket list.
Amazing service and food!
As a San Francisco native, I avoid Pier 39 at all costs. Forbes Island was worth the exception. The Island is actually a large houseboat with a lighthouse on top. The drinks and food were of medicore quality. Someone in charge should go take some notes from one of SF's trendier establishments and step up those signature cocktails. If I'm paying over $80/person, I don't want to see bright red maraschino cherries in my mezcal cocktail! My boyfriend's lamb was divine but my steak was.... previously frozen most likely. Come back for the experience with a tourist! Not with a foodie
We had our wedding meal here (just the 2 of us) and everything was beyond perfect.
Enchanting, romantic and magical.
Thank you so much to the staff and Captain Chris for making our day perfect.
Great evening. Food was excellent and we both said the fish was cooked perfect. Would go back.
It's a lot of fun to explore the island with a drink in your hand, especially the light house. The food was good. But the portions were a bit small. This is one of those fancy restaurants that you end up leaving feeling still hungry.
The food, service and atmosphere were all top notch. Loved the short boat ride from pier 39. Great views of the pier, Alcatraz, and bridges from the small lighthouse.
They could improve the quality of food and make this a primere experience. The hostess was excellent and on top of everything. The fish was good quality but the vegetables were either undercooked or overcooked. The locale and decor were a blast.
Great one time experience. Venue, service and food was excellent.
This was worth the six-year wait. Great views great food and great
After I ordered a drink it tasted bad and it wasn't what I expected. When I got my bill they charged me for the drink anyway. They never told me that if I don't replace the drink with another drink, that I will be charged anyway. The bar tender was rude. I got motion sickness because the boat rocks the entire time. I would not go back.
A great alternative to the usual busy and touristy waterfront dining along the wharf
Wonderful dining experience! I remember reading of this place many years ago, in TN, never thinking I would ever be in CA to see it in person. It was truly everything I hoped for and more. We both had the mushroom ragout and steak, both dishes were delicious. The chocolate mousse cake was a perfect finish for a perfect meal. Perfect meal for a perfect day!
The view on the island is beautiful but there is no view once you are seated in the restaurant. The prefix was good but not quite up to the price. For the price they should include a glass of wine otherwise its about $10 too much. Its a novelty and the service was wonderful but one visit will do me.
Great time will remember this spot forever. I've been wanting to visit this place for over 5 years, can now take this off the bucket list. one to remember.
Great spot for fantasy dinning. Very great ambiance, food and services. It was an adventurous experience boarding the ferry and "escape" to a tiny island. The night would be perfect, if, only if the wine was good. I ordered a glass of Jade Mountain, Cabernet Sauvignon 2011, and the wine tasted like it had been sitting in a open bottle for more than it needed to.
It was a neat experience, the menu was limited, and it didn't really have good options for children. The space is small and woman at the table next to us was obnoxiously loud.
Service was a bit rude but overall great experience
Service was horrible!
We will not return because of the inattentive and unprofessional sever.
Very expensive, didn't like the course meal menu, didn't need that much food.
The menu is prefixed price of $79 per person -the food was average-nothing special. I don't mind paying but the food was very disappointing for the price. Do not recommend this place for the food. It is a unique venue but don't go there for the food. Drinks maybe. Service was great. Boat captain was wonderful made us feel very welcome. Again for food doesn't match up with the price. With so many wonderful restaurants in San Francisco-I wouldn't go again m.
Great experience! I proposed to my honey at the top of the lighthouse before dinner. She loved it! Oh.. she said Yes!
Our delicious dinner, the high-end kitschy ambiance, and impeccable service were outstanding. Highly recommend.
Had a wonderful evening. The location is quirky, original and a lot of fun. Not cheap but great for special occasions! The service and the food were excellent!
The food here was delicious they cater to my four-year-old as well with a more appropriate meal for her. The staff was very friendly everybody had there a game on. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody and everybody
Cool experience. The wait staff was nice, but for the price, the food was average. We spent over $200 and did not even get any drinks. Definitely a neat location, but the cuisine left something to be desired. Would recommend to people seeking a different dining experience, but not for foodies necessarily. Overall, we had a nice time, but will probably not return a second time.
Great place for a birthday!
good experience. but not worth about a 100$ a person. the food was mediocre at best. I had the filet mignon and outback serves a better cut. the steak tasted like it had been thawed recently. and the rest of the food was just ok.
the experience should add maybe 10$ or a max of 20$ a meal. what I ate was worth less than 40$. which still leaves 20$ (or 25% of the cost of the meal without tax) as overpriced.
the experience too was underwhelming, expected more. the "underwater" part is pretty bogus. it's a house boat and you eat below sea level. they have a few windows but they're so dirty that you can't see out. but apart from that it's mostly feels like you're in a rocky boat with no windows. not the best eating experience.
My husband and I went here for a special date. We loved the whole experience except for one small detail. Our chairs were extremely uncomfortable. The bill was a little pricey and I would've expected to sit in luxury.
It was fabulous! We took our niece and nephew out and wanted to make it memorable and interesting . This fit the bill. Food and staff and everything was great!
