Awesome meal. Server was very friendly, provided good advice and described the dishes perfectly. We ordered six plates and three desserts for four people and every one was creative and delicious.

Food was very fresh and perfectly prepared. Super fresh oysters, seafood cooked perfectly, pasta al dente and tasty. Great service. The sable fish special was so perfect and delicate. Although the Humbolt squid was good, the strong fish sauce and spices over powered the other dishes so we saved it to the end.

We dined 3 times at this restaurant while visiting Vancouver from Denver, CO and it was an amazing experience all 3 times. Great food, outstanding service and very friendly staff. The food choices were unique and well prepared and locally sourced. If we lived in Vancouver would be a regular spot for personal favorites...grilled kale salad, beetroot salad, halibut cheeks and the amazing eggs benny!!! Will definitely return when we come back to Vancouver!!

Had the opportunity to catch up with a friend in a relatively quiet environment around 1:30pm on Saturday. Service was friendly and the food options were flexible - can sub scone in lieu or some sides which is nice. Healthy lunch. Highly recommend

Second time at Forage. I had an amazing time the first time there and had their halibut cheeks which were very lightly breaded and fried served with delicious picked radishes which perfectly complimented the taste palate. I raved so much about it that my colleagues wanted to go when I went again. Sadly they now prepare the halibut cheeks differently and they were no longer spectacular and tasted almost overdone and gone were the pickled radishes. This preparation did not do justice to such a wonderful delicacy like halibut cheeks. I hope they bring back the old preparation of these wonderful jewels. As disappointed as I was with the halibut cheeks, their preparation of the duck breast was perfect and amazing. The gnocchi were perfectly prepared little morsels of amazing flavors that made your mouth always wanting more. Both dishes are worth ordering again! We also tried the lamb neck and the pan bread. Both were decent, but nowhere near the caliber of the duck, gnocchi, or the old version of halibut cheeks.
The ambiance seemed more of a great "date night" location. We lucked out with the same great waiter as previous, too bad he seemed a bit over whelmed so this experience wasn't as memorable or personal as previous but still good.
Will definitely go again, but there is a part of me that is sad that I will have to find another place to get halibut cheeks.

The "Award Winning" soup was pretty average and one the mains (fish with salmon roe) was awkward and jarring in flavors. Other than that the pork shoulder and Cheese Puff dessert was very memorable. It's hit and miss depending on what you order, but what you get is a menu that is trying new flavors and combinations and if you don't mind that, this is a good place to explore.

Everything was absolutely delicious. The kale salad is great, a little bit too sweet for me but if u like sweet you'll love it. The pork shoulder was so tender it just came apart with a fork, no need for a knife.

Fourth dining at Forage. The 2 Dine-out occasions resulted in truly spectacular food, the other 2 visits the food quality wasn't as even - nothing was bad, it's just that nothing equaled the level I'd experienced with the first Dine-out. I'm glad I just ate there again, with this second Dine-out meal, letting me know that it's still possible to have truly superb food there. Makes me nervous to bring visitors though, not knowing whether or not it will be the a) superb Forage of 2 of my visits, or b) the decent but not spectacular local restaurant of my other 2 visits.

The service is such that I only experience with a team sensibility - where everyone is on board with the overarching purpose of the restaurant. Nice to experience.

I truly hope that the consistency continues to grow. This restaurant/message/team deserves to flourish!

Two of us came for Dine Out on a Sunday evening. The seating area is not big so the tables were very close together.

Appetizers: the bison shank was cold and dry. The grilled squid didn’t seem grilled at all - it was cold, slippery, and barely cooked. This dish would’ve worked as a calamari salad but not grilled squid. We added an extra seafood chowder, which was flavorful with a hint of smokiness. It was more of a creamy style, whereas I would’ve preferred more chunky bits of seafood in my chowder.

Entrees: the grilled duck leg seemed overcooked, the outer layer of meat hard and dry. The crispy halibut was nicely done, the batter freshly fried and the fish moist inside.

Desserts: the elderflower puff was a bit stale by the time it reached our table, and the ice cream too soft and melting. The chocolate cherry cake was very good.

Service was efficient, short on pleasantries but never rude. We were never rushed, 1 ½ hours was enough, but with the tables turning over 4 times each night the pervasive atmosphere didn’t make you feel like lingering, especially when you see the next group of diners waiting to come in.

Overall we loved the depth of flavors in each dish, with an interesting fusion of elements and techniques. The food really could’ve been a 5, but inconsistent execution (particularly the main proteins) and lack of attention to detail brought it down a notch. Portion sizes were a bit on the small side, but acceptable at the $30 price point.

My first visit to Forage and even with Dine Out Vancouver happening, this has become one of my favourite restaurants! Here on a date night, from the moment we entered the doors until we left, the service was outstanding. Promptly seated for our reservation, the menu was quickly explained to us and water was poured. Our food choices for the night: Appetizers - "Vietnamese Style" Bison Shank Salad and Grilled Humboldt Squid; Entrees - Harissa Grilled Duck Leg and Crispy Halibut Cheeks; Desserts - Elderflower Cheese Puff and Chocolate Cherry Bar. We loved each dish, especially the fall-off-the-bone tender duck leg, and the elderflower cheese puff which was a delight even for my not-so-much-of-a-dessert-person partner. A lovely evening all in all, would definitely return!
