forage Ratings and Reviews
This was my second visit to forage - and the second time I drove up from Seattle just to eat here. It was just as fantastic as I remember - warm ambiance, knowledgeable and very friendly staff, and excellent food. They truly understand how to showcase seasonal ingredients and find ways to make even cabbage something exciting to eat. But there is nothing pretentious about this place - there is an ease and comfort of the service that allow the staff to treat you as friends, not as meal tickets.
I took my father here - a foodie before the term existed - and he was blown away. We enjoyed oysters, local mushrooms, halibut, root vegetables, and chocolate galore. Every combination enhanced the natural flavors of each ingredient, not overshadowed. At one point my dad mentioned that we would be sharing a dessert wine at the end of the evening, and our server not only split the pour into 2 glasses without request, but when I was taking forever to drink my share, he brought a splash of an earlier wine we had enjoyed for my dad to sip on. CLASSY.
I will absolutely be making the trek back to this restaurant - for years to come, as I hope it will become be a Vancouver mainstay!
The night was so impressive with excellent service and food. The display and tastes of food were terrific and we all satisfied. It looked like small portions, but we ended up with a full stomach that cannot fit any desserts sadly. I will definitely come back to try other menus with dessert and want to try their awesome brunch :)
An appropriately attentive server, delicious food, refreshing drink, and a delicious chocolate dessert made for a lovely evening. Hope to have the opportunity to return soon to enjoy the other delightful sounding options on the menu, which I did not have room for this night. Appreciative of the coat check option they offered. Review the menu online, and if it sounds good to your tastes, you will not go wrong.
This was a great meal! I live in the neighbourhood and I'm not sure how I've neglected to go to this wonderful restaurant until now. The food was delicious and imaginative. The service was very good and the server helped us choose some yummy things for dinner. I hope to go back very soon.
My friend and I travelled to Vancouver recently to explore the food scene. We chose Forage and had very high expectations. Though we expected amazing, our minds were blown by every aspect of service we received. From our incredibly knowledgeable server who paired our courses perfectly with mouth watering BC wines to the dedicated kitchen staff who obviously have a love and passion for their craft. Culinary skill translated in each bite. Without hesitation I give Forage five stars and would recommend it highly to anyone looking to treat their palate. Thank-you so much Forage for taking such good care of two travel worn American chefs from North Carolina.
I've been going to forage regularly for the past 4 years, and have yet to have a bad experience. The service is always phenomenal, the food is incredible, and it's become a go-to spot for me to introduce friends visiting from out of town to the wonderful culinary options available in Vancouver.
If you've never been, the dishes are mainly served 'family style' - which means that you're expected to share the dishes. They may seem small, and you might want to order a few, but you'd be surprised at how filling the food can actually be. Since they serve them as they're prepared, you'd think you might end up with a ton of dishes on your table and no room to actually eat, but I've been very impressed with their ability to keep on top of what's been finished and can be cleared, as well as when to start prepping the next set of dishes so that you don't ever end up with any noticeable periods or gaps between deliciousness.
I can't say I've ever had their dessert, though...because I'm always so full up from all the amazing dishes I want to try whenever I go there. If you haven't been, you should definitely go!
As a vegetarian, my go to dishes are the mushrooms, the corn bread and the gnocchi...but I can say that I've brought many a meat eater there, and they've all come back raving about their land and their sea options (the duck and the bison, for example, always get rave reviews).
If you haven't been, yet, I urge you to go! It's an incredible experience that everyone in Vancouver (or visiting Vancouver) should try at least once.
Great evening at Forage.
Good food, Informed talented bar, really top notch service, best we've experienced in Vancouver.
Quite the opposite to what we experienced at blue water cafe, which was more of a loud party "scene" as opposed to a fine dining restaurant.
Keep up the great work, we will be back.
This was my second time to forage. First time was a dinner date (equally as fantastic) and today a brunch with friends. Brunch menu was phenomenal, it was hard to make a decision. Went for the bison hash, so complex and tangy and good.
I look forward to coming back here again. Great value and I love the use of all local ingredients.
Amazing service. Food was delicious and came out in a timely manner. Duck was slightly under cooked but they took it back, further roasted it, re-plated and took a glass of wine off the bill. Gnocchi was to die for and the halibut melted in your mouth. Dessert was supberb and well balanced, wish I had more. Love this place.
We had been referred to Forage by a few friends on our visit to Vancouver. We made it there on Friday night and had an absolutely lovely experience. The food was excellent, the service was excellent and the space was conducive to an enjoyable meal out with a friend. The wine recommendation that was made to complement my meal was spot on. We wouldn't of changed anything! Thank you Forage for adding a great meal to our Vancouver visit memories!
First time at Forage, and didn't know what to expect. Menu is local (200 mile) and wine list is Okanagan. Bison carpaccio was amazing, great for sharing. Also shared the cheesy corn bread, comes in a little cast iron skillet, really good. We shared the duck too, which was very good. One suggestion would be to add veggies/greens to the entre. Our waiter was top notch, very helpful with the menu, and covered our table perfectly. We never felt rushed. Highly recommended.
The crab salad was delicious!
All the other food could have been outstanding (duck breast and lamb fettuccine), but came to the table barely warm. We wish we had sent them back to the kitchen.
The fettuccine had very few pieces of pulled lamb and was so smothered with pesto that it drowned out any possibility of being delicate to taste. And it was cold.
First dining experience on my first visit to Vancouver and Forage was an excellent place for an anniversary dinner. The Albacore Tuna and Bison steak were cooked to perfection and paired well with the Pinot Noir.
We were expecting the steak to be more of the typical cut, not bite size pieces, especially for its price tag. But it was so tender and plated well, we'll just chalk it up as a new dining experience in a new city.
The ambience would've been perfect had it not been for the group of 12 women seated directly behind us. They were much too loud and roudy for that intimate place. Other than that, Forage was a great way to start our dining experience in this beautiful city. Thank you, Chef Whittaker!
Based on a recommendation from our hotel and looking at reviews, we were thoroughly disappointed as it came highly recommended. The concept of farm to table is au currant and everything was locally produced, so for that, they did extremely well. But, the food arrived 'randomly' at the table with a salad arriving at the same time as a main dish. We found the taste of the food was lacking in flavour . The gnocchi was tasteless and we did not even finish it. The fish was too heavily salted. Overall, we did not enjoy the food which was a disappointment as that's the main reason to go there. We would not recommend this restaurant
We were in Vancouver visiting family and made a reservation to celebrate my wife’s birthday this past Friday. It was perfect. We started with fantastic cocktails, then the cornbread (excellent recommendation from the waiter). Next we shared the duck confit filleted, the bison, and the mushrooms with an Okanagan Cabernet. Everything was delicious, and the service was attentive and helpful.
We would eat here often if we only lived in Vancouver!
