Great food. Our waiter was superb and really hustled with a lot of tables filled with patrons.
My wife and I have been there a number of times. Each time food and service was great even though it looked like a madhouse going through he door. Owner/manager and wait staff were very attentive. We look forward to going back.
We have been here many ties and service is always good...Food is reasonably priced and there are plenty of options from pizzas, to pasta dishes to meat or seafood entrees. If you are a vegetarian, you may have an issue... They do not have eggs of avocados if you want protein in a salad... Hopefully this will be fixed soon...
We're a bit prejudiced because we live right across the street from this neighborhood gem. Over the past 12 years the quality of the food just keeps improving and Ali has hired & kept a core staff of managers and servers who are outstanding. The eggplant parm is out of this world, along with the other entrees - filet, rockfish, veal, or the pasta dishes - all are top shelf, each and every time. Or, you should try one of their pizzas or the cheese steak sub - just as good as being in South Philly!
We ate outside and it was lovely. Great food, wine and people.
Fontina Grill is always a great choice for any occasion. It has the feel of a neighborhood meeting place as well as a place to celebrate special occasions. Great smiling service and
Met a friend for brunch on a Sunday. They were kind and let me in a bit early because it was a cold breezy day, did not make a fuss and let me sit down at the table. Abundance of food for the price on the brunch menu and very well prepared. Attentive staff and even though there were a couple of parties going on at the same time, the noise level was minimal.
Thank you Open Table! I am from Pittsburgh and was looking for a restaurant that could accommodate a party of 20 to celebrate my nephew’s 40th Birthday. I found Fontina Grille on Open Table & was impressed with the menu selection and variety. I must say, everyone was extremely pleased... the food was great; the price was fantastic; the atmosphere was nice & the staff was tremendous! Needless to say, my nephew enjoyed his birthday & felt like a king.
I love mussels, especially those at Fontina. Their mussels are plumb and moist, and the kitchen uses just the right amount of garlic in the mussels caprese. I am less enthusiastic about the crab cakes and the other seafood dishes. The Kim Crawford sauvignon blanc at $9 a glass is a very good value for money. The service is competent and non-intrusive. The decor is too brown for me, but I love the tables by the large windows. The hard surfaces and the constant traffic from the buffet to the tables makes for a high noise level and an occasional bump of a table.
Fontina Grill is a local favorite for lunch or dinner. Their happy hour specials including early bird specials are great for unwinding after work.
The food and service were great! The portions were good and the food was hot. Best parking was behind the restaurant but there is a walkway so one doesn't have to walk around the block to get to the front door.
Food was very good, as usual. My wife and I visit here regularly. Service is very good. Atmosphere is slightly upscale, but still casual. Overall, I highly recommend this resturant.
If I could make one request, it would be nice if hard boiled eggs or avacodos were available as a source of protein for salads. Feta cheese is a poor substitute if someone wants to eat vegetarian.
Excellent fresh food, mussels and pizza delicious, wait staff and managers very welcoming!
I had Sunday brunch here with a friend. We enjoyed calamari and wild mushrooms for appetizers. Main course was a prime rib omelette - DELISH!!! Drinks were very good as well. Only wish they had more of a brunch selection.
This restaurant is always first-rate. They know how to cook. They know how to serve their customers. We go out of our way to pay more for less quality in the city while this gem too often gets side-stepped as a wonderful destination for couples and families.
Great food and service! Not a disappointment.
The buffet was a great value, lots of options. They seemed a bit understaffed, we had to wait a while for the check because our waitress was also bartending. The decor was modern but cozy as well. The tables were very close together and small, we had four people there and were bumping elbows a bit. I still really enjoyed it though.
Fontana Gill is OK. There is nothing wrong but nothing special about this restaurant. It is just another "Italian" restaurant among many.
We had 11 people, the table was great & the service & food was excellent!
Food is very good ... had value special disgust — a spring garden salad with scallops. Quite different from the usual pasta dihes and it was absolutely delicious. Staff us very friendly, too
Work colleagues lunch
Arrived for our reservation to find 25 + other people waiting in line for a table who all had reservations for the same time slot. We will never try to eat there again.
Arrived to a chaotic overcrowded scene. Host handled it effectively and worked very hard to satisfy all the potential patrons that OpenTable inefficiently gave reservations to. In spite of the chaos created by Open Table we were seated pretty quickly. The rest of the evening was great. Mixed drinks were expertly prepared, House Cabernet excellent and food was beautifully and efficiently prepared and serviced . Highly recommended. Staff handled the business with much class and effectiveness.
Great food. Great service !
We had an unfortunate 2nd visit to Fontina. Although we had a reservation for 6:30PM and had been at the bar since 5:15PM, we were not seated until about 45 minutes after our reservation. The host did give us a free drink for the inconvenience. It was very crowded and I got the impression that they were seating regulars without paying any attention to the reservations. The service was good once we were seated and the food was excellent. I would give it another try as we were told by several regulars at the bar that they had never seen it so crowded.
Food was okay, nothing special. Good neighborhood spot. We were in the area and decided to try it. Not likely to return, primarily because it is inconvenient for me.
A very pleasant surprise. Don’t know why we didn’t try it sooner. No wonder it received so many great comments.
This was a return visit with out of town friends. We loved the warm bread and dipping oil. The salads were fresh and sized right. My wife and I enjoyed our veal piccia and marsla, respectively. Maria, our waitress was happy to substitute angel hair pasta for spaghetti in my order. The house chianti was a good complement to our meal. Our friends enjoyed their PENNE CON BROCCOLI. The mini cannolies which came with the specials were taken home to be enjoyed later. Maria is to be commended for being so accommodating in all our requests.
Eventhough the restaurant was very busy the staff was very attentive. Food was good and atmosphere was festive.
First time visit on a busy Saturday night and made reservations (recommended). Calamari was better than average with good flavor. Ordered the special—seafood rose with penne prepared in their vodka sauce and it was outstanding. Portions are very generous. The scallops, shrimp and crabmeat were not overcooked and the vodka sauce was light and flavorful. My husband ordered the Chesapeake in vodka sauce and it was equally delicious. Ordered the peanut butter Bomba dessert and it is dessert heaven for peanut butter chocolate lovers. In addition to the excellent food, the service was equally excellent especially because it was a very busy Saturday night. All servers were very attentive but not annoying. Will visit again to try other items on the menu.
Fontina Grille is a great Italian restaurant for those red sauce favorites, veal or egg plant parmigiana, pizza, spaghetti etc. It is a homey place with good service, efficient and a pleasure to dine at. Entrees include a salad which is decent in size and quality. Recommend!
Outstanding. My newest favorite Italian restaurant
It was not a long wait as we waited for our reservation time. The hostess offered every guest if they would like water. Our waitress was very good. She got our order accurately and remembered that my mom and I were sharing. Food was served hot. I would definitely go back and recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The restaurant's best dishes are those which require minimal preparation. The barely seared sushi grade tuna in the salad was excellent, but the crab cakes were disappointing because the natural flavor of the crab was disguised. Alicia, the server, has a wonderful personality that makes dining at one of her tables a pleasure. I am not a fan of the ambiance: brown floors, brown tables, brown chairs.
My 3rd visit. Never disappointed. Food is wonderful. Have recommended to several friends.
We go back and back to Fontina Grille time after time and they never let us down. Good food, moderately price drinks, wait staff friendly. We will continue to return here for other occasions.
The best part about Fontina Grille: It is a friendly, neighborhood restaurant where the owners care enough to stop by every table and make sure everything is good. But that only works if the food is good, and they do a wonderful job from Italian entres to dinner salads. Prices are more than fair. For some not familiar with King Farm, it is a bit hard to find, but it is worth looking for.
Excellent food. Was seated immediately despite a busy night. Service was good. A little disappointed there was no birthday acknowledgement from the staff as I requested.
Great food, good prices, great service, great experience!
Very nice neighborhood Italian restaurant. Good food at reasonable prices. Would definitely be back.
